Thanks for answering about the thrift shopping in Tokyo. We're one month out from our 3.5 week trip and we're compiling a list of possibilities without over planning. We will move fast but our goal is to get lost and see things not on the typical tourist lists. Also hitting Seoul for a few days before heading back to the US. Cheers to all the 2024 adventures! Safe travels!
Great job on the commercial for One Pack Wanderers! So funny! Please do more 1 week/2 week videos if possible. We subscribe and watch alot of travel UA-cam, but you two are our favorites!
I consume UA-cam daily, usually less than an hours worth. In 2019 I tried to give back by recording my solo travel and actually having a video or two on my channel. Failed!! Turns out it's bloody hard work. Setting up shots, getting the sunrise/sunset, voice over. Editing, God, I hate editing. Took the fun out of the travel. I spent more time thinking about the last shot and the next shot and making sure I got it centred and focused and the light was right and it sapped the enjoyment right out of the moment. It was exhausting as well. So not for me. You guys are like ballerinas, you make it look so effortless and natural. You have given me so many ideas of places to visit, and where to go and what to do when I get there. Speaking of solo travel. I had booked to travel for 4 months to Canada and USA mid 2020...cancelled due to COVID. Also 4 months in Europe in 2021 including London to Venice on the Simplon train (Orient Express)...cancelled due to COVID. FINALLY got my money back. Going to use it to travel late this year/early next year for 6 - 7 months solo travel around the world with 4 - 5 stops. Starting and ending in Sydney. Spreadsheet creating right now. I'm looking at doing sectors so I don't have to rely on one airline/alliance. Should I fly East or West (no back tracking), concentrating on Europe (white Christmas) and Canada/USA?
Nice discussion guys. Josh, I too am in IT and wish I didn't have to go back. I live vicariously through you. The part about how much time to spend in a place when your time is limited ... my wife would happily travel around the world for just a weekend, whereas I feel I need to spend at least a week, preferably 2 or 3, in order to make the journey worth while. And I am so happy how much your views on filming align with mine. I also try to avoid filming people, especially up close. I was once casually filming in a really cool, busy bakery in London, and a baker blew up at me because I accidentally captured her in the video. That gave me PTSD. Anyway, thanks again!
Really enjoyed this podcast today. You guys just make me smile. You’re such an interesting and engaging young couple! I thing your next travel quest should be one to find hidden treasure or gold❤
Agree about FOMO in Japan!! I got so overwhelmed with all of the things that I wanted to do but couldn’t squeeze in, so I had select the top things that we really wanted to see/experience.
I think your videos have a great balance between you and the place. We watch your videos because we love your personalities and your way of traveling. And I think most of us don't want to see documentaries about the places but how easy or fun it is to travel there.
old(ish) podcast but I'm still gonna give my two cents lol cos for me, what made me better enjoy my travels were to prioritize hard, like you said. have a few must do and a bunch of if there's time/energy. but mostly to accept that, especially if it's a destination you've been dreaming about, you will never be able to do everything that you want. and that's okay! leaving with things not tried and places not visited just means that you have incentive to come back again. and if they mean enough for you, you will prioritize your travel budget to return some day, even if it takes years. and if you don't feel enough pull to do that, then maybe it was something that you would have liked to see/experience, but after all not enough that maybe it was a good thing that you didn't kill yourself to squeeze it all in on the first go. idk if I'm explaining it well, but for me, I've been to Korea multiple times and in Seoul alone collectively probably almost four months, and I'm not even close to being done with all the places I would like to see and do there. so I keep returning whenever I have saved up enough for another trip, and sometimes what I wanted to see but didn't get around to on the last trip suddenly will have changed when I then do get to return, and then it's just nice that I didn't over filled my schedule back then :)
Thank you for sharing the list of great thrift shops in Japan! So helpful! Hopefully, the epic quest planning goes well. Looking forward to hearing about the next big adventure.
Love that you answered my question how I thought you might. I guess I was looking for some more behind the scenes, shot set up - type information. Because if and when I decide to travel, I am wondering if I should document also? But I don’t like seeing or hearing myself recorded and I feel awkward being “that person” filming or taking photos. And I am low key judgy about those people and then to become one of them? So you see my dilemma? 😂 🫣😵💫
I’ll encourage you to worry less about reducing your portion in the videos to increase showing the place you’re videoing. There are a lot of travel UA-cam channels out there but I watch you guys because I like YOU. I can relate to you and enjoy your style. I think it would be a shame if there was less of you.
This is always the balance. Usually I complain about how much people show themselves over where they are, but I haven't even thought about that in Lisa and Josh's videos. Just do what you do. I'm loving it!
Definitely love the multigenerational travel! We started traveling (within the US) for the holidays with our family group years ago and this past September we lost my mom to cancer and we were recently talking about how the group shots gave us such a memory timeline. We had three generations in all the trips. And allows such a variety of perspective of the new things/adventures. I would love it if you could include a quick comment on the places you go whether or not they are handicap accessible. I love your videos because I know I am seeing places I will never have access to being someone who uses a wheelchair, but other times the area looks Ike it could be accessed.
so sorry to hear about the loss of your mom. so incredible to have those memories with her. we love being able to see places through our family's eyes--their interests and perspectives are so incredibly different and wonderful. and yes! regarding your question about accessible places to travel, this episode might be helpful or relevant: ua-cam.com/video/hNPqnSuoyMc/v-deo.html we talked about this very topic :) hope that helps!
Okay didnt know where to share my favorite boutique hostel in tokyo......pleeease stay there its kinda near ginza..... wise owl hostel has a oden restaurant and great beds hot choc down stairs sooo nice....and cheap 25$ a night lol
Question for you guys - if each of you were solo instead of a couple would you still want to do long term travel like you do, what would you do differently?
What y'all mentioned about the filming locals is SO TRUE! It feels so odd and shoving a camera in their face feels very unnatural. I feel like seeing other people recording themselves though is funny because we're always like "Yo, is that what we look like too"? Not in a bad way but sometimes it's just funny and fun to observe others doing the EXACT same thing that you do LOL

Travel Thursday! Travel Thursday. 🎉🎉🎉

Marvel Snap. You can play on your mobile or computer. Matches are short so it's easy to squeeze in a couple matches here and there.

How far ahead do you plan your trips? Is there an ideal time to get best pricing on flights, hotels etc? Does it depend on the region too?
Have you not seen any of "Life of Boris" 's country reviews? He always does a supermarket shopping sequence and it's the best entertainment ever!
Wow awesome to hear about genetic counselor. Worked in Cytogenetics so know where you are coming from

Persona 5 Royal is a good rpg game. Similar vibes and style to Yakuza Like A Dragon imo
