No one uncomplicates the complicated better than Palki. Even after being in the Semiconductor industry for the last 4 decades, I always struggled to summarize it for the uninitiated. Palki does it so well. I have started listening to her reporting on complicated issues in these uncertain times.

It's much more difficult than becoming an IT power. Modern semiconductors are more difficult to make than nuclear weapons or space rockets. The amount of intellectual property across thousands of industries required to produce modern chips is not something one can set up from scratch.

Yessss, Very lucrative field to learn and earn a hell lot of money. My brother is a chip design verificator and his starting salary as a fresher was 40 lacs per annum + company stocks and many more facilities with great company culture. His seniors who have 3-4 years of experience are earning 70 lacs and above...So only the sky is the limit. But this field in itself is very elite and it's difficult to get into the top semiconductor companies if you're not from 5 old IITs and 1-2 old NITs.

Indian managed to conceive and produce supercomputers (see C-DAC, PARAM,...) and cryogenic rocket engines.
They will manage to design and produce chips and semiconductors !

India should start manufacturing some machine tools for semiconductor fab production.
This is good news. Basically, Tata is doing the heavy lifting and as usual Modi is taking credit.. I only hope if Modi is re-elected he and his cabinet reps sees and brings projects to other states too.. There are several other states in India (other than Gujarat, UP and bjp ruled ones)..
The next objective must be to make a giant move towards quantum computing.

Madam , most chip are deigned in India by the Indian technicians in India but, for Intel etc. This is our domain . Fabrication & assembly of chips within India as 3 -4 countries ( Tiwan-China- Korea ) have virtual monopoly & they can be dangerous for Indian industries in future .

There is no problem of setting it somewhere else but because alot of business hubs as well as gift city exist in Gujarat it will boost the forces and resources. The logistics and materials will be easily available for the business at cheap rates. Don't worry Gujarat is in India and it will be indian success not individual state success.

Semiconductor industry is a good move but why two plants in Gujarat, why not even one plant in South , Is it not a part of India ?
Its based on business reasons not wishful thunking. Companies will choose those areas which is suitable , where laws are business friendly, where logistics are easy.
Its the duty of States to attract business . PM only encourgaes them to come to India and gives them steong options that will encourgae them to establisj plants.

Frankly I supported it 100% more chip manufacturing will make it harder for any power to play ban and also mare breakthrough as REAL competition will bring forth innovation.

@@abhi739 do you know anything about semiconductor industry? Tata fab is a foundry and not IDM so they mostly only manufacture a chip for their clients. Their clients who would provide the chip design. Tata assam is an OSAT. They mostly perform the chip packaging. Tata and tower doesn't do chip designing
