Charlemagne and Roland represent human types that are fixed in the luminous firmament of legendary stature. Their impact on Western society helped raise the standard of the ideal of chivalry, and to inspire a sublime tone of heroism for the rest of human history to be in consonance with. These examples are after Christ and the greatest saints of course, but are themselves necessary facets and key contributors toward building a highest notion of true heroism and hierarchical granduer. All of this to the great chagrin of woke-minded and egalitarian mentalities. This song seeks to magnify and prolong the noble echo of these great men's footsteps in history. Read the writings of Blessed Catherine Ann Emerich she was a mystic that predicted a lot of what has happened in the 21st century. She spoke of the Great Monarch who would be Crowned at Westphalia and would unite Western Europe. There have been many saints and mystics who have talked about this - even if many aren’t recognised by the church it’s a little bit of hope to hold on to.

Well this isnt exsctly how the battle of ranceveaux went. The basque attackers blocked the mountain pass with massive boulders disallowing charlemagne from helping roland and the 2 other generals. Luckily it was charlemagnes only significant defeat
This is, of course, based more off of La Chanson de Roland (The Song of Roland) than the actual battle. The Poem was written some 300 years later to inspire young Frenchmen to join the first Crusade for Jerusalem, it is the Oldest Surviving Piece of French Literature. To summarize, the Poem is basically the French equivalent of the 300 Spartans. It takes a Historical loss, romanticizes it to frame it as a glorious last stand, and was used to inspire people to go to war. Likewise, comparing this song to the Historical event is akin to comparing the Movie/Comic Book "300" to the historic battle of the Hot Gates...there's a few degrees removed...
@@SwordlordRoy what i meant is that this translation doesnt frame it as a glorious last stand but as a victory where they chased away the heathens, unless im misunderstanding the last lyrics
@@bingusiswatching6335 To be fair, The Song of Roland itself kinda does that to an extent. It starts with Charlemagne's army taking all of Iberia with the exception of Saragossa, then Ganelon plots with the city to Ambush Roland at Roncevaux, Roland dies from blowing his Ivory Hunting Horn hard enough to burst his temples and his soul is lifted to paradise by angels, Charlemagne arrives on the battlefield and flies into a rage at the death of his nephew and the breaking of the Peace Treaty, he chases the Saracens into the Ebro river where they drown, then Charlemagne beats an emir of Babylon who came to help Saragossa, conquers the city, then goes back to France where Ganelon is put on trial. No. The Franks were the ones that conquered and ruled over what is now modern day France, they laid the groundworks and built the country but they spoke old dutch and came from the netherlands/Belgium and Germany. The Franks are not ancestors of the French. If anything the Dutch/Flemish peoples are decentendent from the Franks genetically and linguistically.
Franks = France. Its not about the language. Franks created the territories of France, they established the name France and adopted Gallo-Roman culture. Most of the French people have germanic names coming from the Franks. Without the Franks, France wouldn t have existed.
@nikorasunippon2371 Yes the Frankish nobility created what is now France but they only ruled. The Frankish population/normal people stayed in the low countries. I just think it's strange that the French call themselves after those who conquered and ruled over them. The idea of England as a country for example started by Williams(a French)conquest and England has been ruled primarily by French nobility for the following centuries but not a single englishman will call himself French. So why would the Gauls name themselves Franks/French?
Its like the bulgaria. Bulgaria is named after turkic bulgars that migrated to the balkans. But, only the small ruling nobles are bulgars, the rest majority population of the region are slavs.
