City of Lost Children is one of the best Steampunk movies made. It's interesting watching it back to back with more Desielpunk Dark City from 1998

Marc Caro is also a comics artist, in the 70/80's he published in Métal Hurlant (Heavy Metal magazine), in a very dark/weird punk style.

I got a DVD of "City of Lost Children" around 2000. A truly wonderful fairy tale story. The visuals and set designs are surreal and fun. Think of "Tin Tin" if it had been done right.
I sort of grew up on the edges of the 1% in South Florida. Many of these people truly are 'transgressive.' "Ordinary" people really are viewed as 'less than' the Elites. I have seen this first hand. "Infinity Pool" would probably bring on something similar to a PTSD 'flashback.'
Stay safe. Stay away from the Wealthy.

Weirdest good movie ever, CITY OF LOST CHILDREN. I fell in love with the quirky backgrounds and the beautiful cinematography of it. Weirder than some of Cronenberg's horror movies, but more of a story than most of the dreck Hollywood wants to make. Hi Terry. Having you review movies you've only recently seen for the first time brings an interesting slant to the video. Not better or worse, but different.
Infinity Pool sounds like it would be too much for a delicate flower like myself, 🙄 but I very much appreciate your review. It was fascinating in its own right. I liked City of Lost Children which was odd but very beautiful. Elizabeth Harvest was great. I loved the twists and when we learn the truth is even uglier than we thought. Tried but could not get thru Infinity Pool as it just seemed to be grim happenings for grim reasons. Plus (like in other movies) when everyone is dislikable means I can not get into it. Recommend "Astronaut".

Jean-Pierre Jeunet films are more to experienced than anything else. I liked Big Bug once I got over the 'madness' of it.
Elizabeth Harvest just didn't click for me. The actors were all good but something about it just didn't work for me. I watched it more for "I think I know how it's going to go. Let's see if I'm right." Yes, it ran pretty much on the rails for me.

Just curious... did the subs of you copy of The City Of Lost Children translate the girl's name into "Crumb"? I'd never seen the movie with the subs actually translating her name (originally on the big screen, later on VHS, and DVD). They always left it as Miette, which I think is a literal translation, though I thought it's also kind of an actual French nickname.
It's weird, I've come across a couple of incidents where subtitles have varied, even on official releases, that kind of change the meaning of dialogue in subtle (or not so subtle) ways. I got a copy of Let the Right One In, where the subs were so clunky, the dubbed audio was actually notably better.
