The Farmer's Table Farmer's Cheese recipe: • How to Make Farmer's C...
Hey ya'll, I'm Jess from Roots & Refuge Farm
Welcome to a place that feels like home. A small farm with a big family. We hope you'll pull up a chair, grab some coffee and visit awhile.
There was a time that all I wanted in the world was a little farm where I could raise my family and grow our food. Now, that is exactly what exists outside my door. In watching it unfold, a new dream was formed in my heart - to share this beautiful life with others and teach them the lessons we've learned along the way. Welcome to our journey, friend. I am so glad you're here.

Ok, I had to replay the beginning after I realized who Brianna was and you must be talking about Meg Hollar. I love when y’all get together! Hugs all around 🤗
they're crossing the streams on multiple channels! No one knows what will happen! (I'm guessing good food.) I hadn't thought about it before, but all of a sudden I'm thinking about what Meg will have. With all the boys and the one girl would another girl be good? Just a happy healthy baby is all they need, right? And how'd they get the new baby coming? That's a mystery. I remember the Peanuts cartoon had a solution involving the great pumpkin.
My Mom always soaked her greens in salty water to get rid of any worms.
Grocery shopping from the garden is so satisfying. I love when a recipe asks for fresh thyme. I just go outside with some scissors and cut a few sprigs off. It NEVER gets old.
Some " putter" in the garden... Jessica " Macgyver's" in the garden! 😂Boxcutter, no problem....pockets, cloth...its like...whatever.. make it work! Legendary!😂
I loved the comment about homesteaders being proud of their food.
I grew cauliflower and broccoli this winter for the first time. I was in awe when I harvested a 3lb. 4oz. Cauliflower. I took pictures and showed them to anyone who would look. 😂
Also I love seeing the UA-cam family that I watch come together, such a blessing to be a little bit a part of your celebrating Meg. 💖💙
I was the same way! I grew onions for the first time this year and just pulled some today and I'm like look what I did! 😂😂❤❤❤
I love that you just start pulling things out of the bags for your friend, I can feel your excitement!
Jess's joy over showing Bri all the goodies is so heart warming!❤️❤️❤️
I love the girls getting together to celebrate Meg's new baby that we're still waiting for. Can't wait to say "HAPPY BIRTHDAY, little person."
Homesteaders are proud of their food!
Truth! Nothing tastes better than eating your own food.
I snorted!! “ why I always swallow bugs when I’m tryna shoot a video I just don’t know” 😂😂🥰
It blows me away that you have time for friends and camping trips and girls weekends and your kids sports. I don’t understand the math.
That’s how God’s blessings generally work in my experience. Thanks for sharing all your adventures. ❤️
Not trying to do everything by themselves is key...
This was such fun! I think one of my favorite things about being part of the gardening community is that when (for example) a friend comes by with marmalade from her Seville orange tree I can give her a couple of pints of butternut squash for soup. I love the swapping! 💚
I'm glad Hope is doing better! Amd it's not only homesteaders who are proud of their harvests; backyard gardeners are also proud. Last summer we bought zero produce from the grocery store. Enjoy your girls get together and your great food!
With the cost of butter at the store, having your own supply and in surplus sounds awesome. I’m envious!
Oh my gosh, who would not love a bounty of fresh veggies this time of year, my mouth is watering
Watching with my 4 year old and she said Jess is so pretty and I like her orange shirt and lovely dress and she’s sweet. She’s is very interested in your salad and cheese.
I can’t wait for the day I can bring farm fresh things to friends. Currently, I share eggs and homemade bread.
Wonderful to see you have a girls time. Friends are the best time spent sharing yourself, your bountiful harvest. Have a great time ladies. 😊
I’m a foodie, a cook and a gardener and I get you about the pride you have when you harvest food and gift it to others. I am no farmer, but my little backyard homestead can produce some beautiful food. I particularly love bringing my mother whatever I have in season when I go visit her. Put some of that peach jam in your vinaigrette when you make your beet salad, you can thank me later! Thanks for sharing.
Enjoyed y’all’s excitement over the home grown food. ❤
Very satisfying when my wife tells me “go to our garden and get this and that for today’s dinner.” 🍓 🍆 🫑 🍅 🧅 🧄 🥦 🥬 🌶️ 🫛
I bought strawberries for my Greenstalk last year, and they were small, but they spilled all out of the Greenstalk into my raised bed, and there are large strawberries on them. If I can keep the slugs away… I love it that you have introduced your friends to us. Because of you, my homesteader families have grown. ❤
An April harvest, the reward of a winter garden, putting up last season's harvest and the fruits of the animals. You really are an effective farmer Jess.
I didn’t think I liked beets either! I don’t like them by themselves. I roasted some whole the other day, peeled them, sliced them into wedges, and did a quick simple pickle. They are delicious in a salad!
Jess that was like she won a prize, very cool 😎😎😎
I love how Jess says "I'm gonna go wash these beets off, oh! Look! An onion! We should get some onions!" Lol the beets never got washed 😂 this is so how my brain works too! I loved this video so much! I need girlfriends like that! I can't wait to see Meg's baby! Are you photographing the birth?
“The Bovine Posse”😂😂😂
So glad Sock's mom is recovering❤
I both paint and grow food. Sharing my food with others feels better than a painting because I am blessing people with organic food. It's the best feeling to feed someone with the food we've grown ourselves.❤
Awe have fun with the girls! Such a nice gift to bring!❤
I went back and watched these all over again from each persons point of view. Y’all should do a playlist to put them all in one spot! It was so fun to see everything from behind different cameras ❤
Well it’s happened . After months of watching all your videos in chronological order I’ve finally caught up . Loved watching you from your humble beginnings to how much God has blessed you :)
So cool seeing you with Bri!! What a nice surprise!!!! I follow her channel as well!
If your going to celebrate with Meg of HH with her soon to be new baby..I wish I could come too! Another fabulous human for sure! Wish her well please xx
Love watching the harvest. Maybe think about putting a cute tote or flower pot in each high tunnel where you can store gardening tools (trowels, harvesting knives, etc) to have handy. I've seen other gardeners set up old mailboxes in their gardens where they keep such things as well. We have a small shed near our garden, so our tools are nearby.
If you put row covers on your brassicas, you don't have to worry about worms as much. If you let the worms take over, you'll have even more moths & worms next season. 😱
Yay girl’s weekend! So necessary to have a break and hang out with good friends. Men need boy’s weekends too.
I so love the title of this video. Grocery haul, but not dependence on the grocery store. Love that you are a producer, not just a consumer.
Have a blast!!!!
Thanks for sharing your so blessed to have such a wonderful group of girl friends with similar values and appreciation for the farm life! Great to see all y’all taking time for yourself and fellowship🙏🏻❤️🌻
That joy in sharing what you grew , and having someone appreciate it, is so special. Love seeing that joy for all of you. Glad Hope is improving! Have an amazing weekend! You could always celebrate season change if you need a reason to get together!
Oh what a wonderful morning with R&R!

Does Brianna have a channel too?
@@kimberlyearly8918yes, Bri From Scratch, is her channel.
@kimberlyearly8918 Yes, Bri from Scratch, is her channel. She is such a lovely lady and wonderful momma to her precious littles. Hope you can find her and enjoy.
Such beautiful beets!! 4:09
Hello nice to meet other people of the R&R family. You gals are an insperation of friendship goals.
I can’t wait to see the feast.
This made my heart happy 💕 hope y’all had a good weekend!
This video was so satisfying! Loved the grocery shopping on the farm. I’m in the PNW and we don’t have much stuff growing yet but this made me so hopeful. Your beets are beautiful.
I always find harvesting videos so incredibly satisfying even though it's not my garden being harvested! I will watch a video even if it's only about harvesting. It's just so fun to see the abundance!
Don't worry about the wind .. this is a great Vlog .. Love seeing how happy your guest is being there 🎉
Some of my fave gals all in one video!!! ❤ Hey @bettertogetherlife Kelly!!!
Such a lovely video. How great it is to shop right outside the house. Butter is getting so expensive in the store.
Have a wonderful time. It is fun hanging out with your buddies.
This video filled my cup💖
How fun! I really enjoyed your grocery haul from your own property.
It's so cute that 2 of my favorite women homesteaders are friends. Congratulations to Meg Hollar on her new blessing. 💝
I always slightly push down carrots before I pull up and out. A lot easier.
I grow specialty flowers (and veggies too) and I totally get what you mean about being soooo proud of your harvest. It's a total flex when I say "I grew that....from SEED!! I did that!" 😁😁😁 Best. Feeling. Ever!!
Lady you scared me for a minute.. I thought you were going to say Meg had the baby early 😳
I hope you all had a great weekend together 😁❤️
I am in Nebraska, zone 5 and I have grown artichokes!
She needs to try once the golden beets cooked with a little butter and honey. My daughter doesn't like the "regular" beets, but loves the golden this way. So good!
So nice to see you all have each other for support and fellowship.
JESS I LOVE YOU!!! GOD BLESS YOU FAMILY AND FARM👵🏼☕️ My first ever homesteaders on UA-cam
Her comment about dipping them in butter made me think if your story about a tiny Jackson wanting the butter dipping things ❤
Good to see y'all getting together. :)
Can't wait to see more " girls weekend" videos!!! I get so much inspiration from all of y'all. My husband is in awe of Meg and all that she does re cooking, gardening etc but y'all show the resilience of women in true form.
I loved Brie's excitement.... So full of joy to have homesteader friends... 🎉😊🎉
I love this I watch Bri all the time too
Y’all are gonna have a blast!! What a gift ❤️❤️😊 16:08
Lovely to see Bri looking so happy with the food, she is a beautiful and strong lady, hope you all had a wonderful time away. You are all an inspiration to so many, and now I'm hungry 😂. ❤
Thank you for the update on Hope. Enjoy your weekend!
Well that just made me smile and warmed my heart!
I have a 15x20 ft garden and my favorite thing is to share with my friends. I’m so excited for the harvest season for it!
I don’t like pickled beets but fresh are my jam!
Beautiful harvest ❤❤
Best groceries haul I have ever seen! You have good reason to be proud, Jess. Happy getting together!
LOVE THIS! Hope your time was blessed!
One of the best parts of gardening is the joy of sharing your abundance!!
What incredibly beautiful, bountiful gifts for your friends! ❤ You and your friends sure seem amazing. Abundantly provided for by the Creator, and such hard working mamas!
Hugs to all of you! Blessings! Give an extra hug to Meg for the baby!
Good morning from Eastern Kentucky ❤
That was fun watching you pull all the food out at Briana's place. It's fun to see how happy her oldest was too while you were pulling it all out.
Cannot wait to see the visit with your friends! Great harvest!!❤❤😊
I wish I had your butter problem! We are big butter lovers here. So jealous of your haul. 😂Love it Jess!
All so Beautiful!!! So lucky to have the Sisterhood you have🥰🤗
I have had several batches of strawberry jam not set last year and this year. It is good as sauce on yogurt. But I didn’t change what I did and don’t know why it wouldn’t set. I am going to buy new Surejell and see if that was it.
Love that I get to start my morning with a R&R video ❤❤ I'm in the Raleigh area, I hope you guys have a blast in NC!!
So much joy and happiness in this video. Thank you for sharing. God bless you
Love your excitement for all the hard work you have done. Makes me even more excited than I am already for my garden
I need more homesteading or gardening friends. This is so great.
Question:
Hope can still nurse Socks when dealing with milk fever..?
Pulling up root veggies is so satisfying 🤤
Bri!!!! I just love her! I can just imagine all the shenanigans you will be up too!
Blessings be, thank You for sharing your joy💕
Hey Jess, your new baby looks like he has a heart on his forehead, which fits his sweetness❤
BLESSED WITH BOUNTY OF FOOD, OUR LORD IS GREAT!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU FOR SHARING LADIES, MANY BLESSINGS!!!
What a great blessing you delivered to Bre.
Oh my goodness!! I love this group of girls!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Hi sweet Kelly! So fun to see you two together! Favorite quote of the day… “some tomatoes are orange” 😀
Oh my goodness your new iris is just like the ones that came with my house! I love it. It's peachy. Holds up well in a vase if you can cut it before it opens, better than a lot of others I have. I sent a picture of the very same one (and a bunch of others) to my grandpa the day before he passed suddenly. The next year they multiplied like crazy. Don't know the real name of it but I call it Grandpa's favorite because that's the one he said he liked the most.
It would be an awesome experience to be able to spend a weekend with these wonderful ladies.
