- The last part of Early's retreat beyond Winchester had Rodes covering the town while Early and the rest of the army moved south. The cavalry leader General John Vaughn had mistakenly believed they could attack a Union advance cavalry and strike one more win before the end of the campaign. General Rodes agreed to set a trap for them while they held the last defense. The Union General William Averell had more than just cavalry with him and mounted an attack on Rodes.
I had a look at the 1st edition TDoG rules Sawyer and decided not to mess my brain up when it comes to GBACW. I've got a listing of the commander ratings and such and will use use the charts from the box and use homemade AM. Those North Carolina boys could use a couple of Pettigrew's brigades from Gettysburg. He has two regiments with 17 SP!
That sounds like a plan. Will you be able to use combat values and weapons ratings?
@@campsawyer I think I will need to use the 1st ed combat charts because they have weapon types that are not in the modern rules. I do have corps display boards that I printed out a year ago. At most I will play the first day and Longstreet's attack July 2nd.
@@nordicmaelstrom4714 Smaller stuff is fun, the lessor played Culps Hill fight is fun too.
@@campsawyer Id have to check the playbook from 1st ed but I don't think I saw a scenario for Culps Hill which is a shame. That was one of the few times the fighting in the Civil War was hand to hand and at night to boot! Smaller fights are fun. That is why I am grateful for having Death Valley and hopefully Stiglrs game soon.
Rules say that Duval activates with Averells AM. So why are you using those 2/AWV AMs ? What am I missing?
