Refinery29 I would like to see straight hair going curly
Me too
I think a video about sisterlocks would be cool
Refinery29 Latina curly girls embracing their hair. ❤️
The journey of natural locs
What I liked: 2 braiders but *same braid size consistency* no big & small plaits
They look very organised. It looks like they use a grid pattern to do hair which is a wise move.
Kris Latoya ikr
Well in my country there is something call d one million braids you get like 5 people on one hair
Yo shout out to refinery for showcasing all these dope black owned natural hair salons in this series
+michalapalmer Thanks for supporting & being a part of it! :)
Michala Palmer I’m your 666th like

And the hairstylists are super gorgeous omg
I honestly like the people who braided her hair. They seem like lovely people ❤.
Vitu N I want to go to that salon. Can you take me their please shister
Arri Loves Yall Hi! I'd love to but I'm not based in the US unfortunately. Even I'd like to go their salon!
And that positive energy they exude is the reason people's hair grow when they go to them. We have to be careful who we allow to touch our hair
I love box braids! It really gives your hair a break & promotes hair growth. You look beautiful! The end result was definitely a success.
+niab. We agree!! :)
Nia B. It’s true! I’m rocking box braids right now and I’m obsessed with them! I’ve had them in for about 3 weeks now and can see this being my next go to style while I transition to natural hair. People look at me so different now in a good way and I love standing out. I also get so many compliments. I used to want bone straight hair so bad but now when I see my curls coming through I fall in love with my hair more and more every day!
What’s box braids
meagan nwalozie the hairstyle the woman in the video has. They’re single braids that tend to be on the larger side in size. Janet jacket had them in the 90s movie, Poetic Justice.
What are box braids?? Are they somebodies real hair that was donated?
Can we talk about how beautiful all three of these women are?!
Ikrr
Long braids always come through with a chuck ton of self-confidence.
For some reason a lot of men love them too!
I feel like she went 35 to 21
Olivia Walker how old is she really?
Nice name

I love love love love box braids! They are so fun to look at and seem so fun to wear! These grey ombré braids look gorgeous!!
HeyyBrey you would look nice in Box Braids.
Debra James No Ma'am. Do NOT encourage the stealing of our culture and erasure of our people. We must protect what is ours and stop believing the lie that if others partake of our culture, then we will all just get along. As long as they as a group continue to show hate and disdain towards us, they should keep thier hands off our culture.
Then wear them! You'd look beautiful with them!
K. C. People like you are so fucking annoying. Stop generalizing the white people race and maybe they’ll stop doing that with you. Fuck
Samee! I want some box braids!
I love how they talked to her and was nice and didn’t kill her scalp
I love their accents ✨
me too!!
Africans🙌🏾✨
I do, too!
Midnight Twilight I am Senegalese and I have a accent close to them
Fantastic African Culture
THIS VIDEO, alone explains why people are outraged when certain celebrities think it’s “cool” and “edgy” to rock braids. They don’t understand what it represents and how much history these hairstyles have. Loooooved this! Thank you Refinery, keep killing it.
+adilenegarcia Thanks for being a part of the R29 fam!! :)
Adilene Garcia
You honestly believe that most black people that get braids understand the entire history of it? No. Most people treat it as a style because nowadays it hardly holds cultural significance.
That Thing You See At The Corner Of Your Eye it does but ok
@@thatthingyouseeatthecorner5249 sis the point is that box braids have special place to black people and its not right that white people are trying to take that away.
Amor Princesa
If by take it away, you mean, wear a style they like WITHOUT claiming it as their own or making fun of it, then you’re wrong. I understand that white people have a history of taking over styles/thing and monetize them for their own benefit, but that’s not the fault of individual people who just like a style.
I used to hate braids because I lived in an areas that was mostly white. When I started wearing them people told me they looked like shoe laces and I got picked on a lot. Now I’ve come to realize that my hair is my hair and I should be the only person who gets to dictate how it looks. I now proudly rock braids of all colors without a care in the world
the ambivert your really pretty btw from your pp lol
Cheering u on ..go baby girl go...black girls ROCK
And now even black women don't believe the bashing young black girls are going through smh. Anyway, I'm so sorry for you. I have box braids since a young age so I totally understand.
the ambivert I’m a white woman and I love love love box braids so much and I wish they were appropriate for me to wear. Please keep rocking them, I’m sure they look incredible ❤️ and I’m so sorry to hear about you getting picked on, please know that a lot of us are rooting for you
@@lauravg515 I don't see why you can't wear them, just be different
Don't know why, but this was so calming to watch.
You should try asmr
Wooooow the end result 😱 she looks so beautiful 😍😍😍
that shop looked really beautiful and professional
I love how versatile natural hair is, it’s as if you can do anything with it as long as you care for it!
She’s beautiful & that hair 😍😍😍😍
I love the fact that it wasn't the average braiding shop that shows little to no regard for your hair before, during, & after the process. I love the outcome. I wish there were more shops like this. 😍
Love how she made nice conversation with the stylists and asked about their life and etc. !
The braids are beautiful. her natural hair is beautiful. The ladies did their thang!
Those braids fits her so much. I love the grey colour. The hair stylists seems so lovely and friendly. :) 😊
I love this series
+paolam. This is amazing to hear! Thanks for tuning in!
Both stylists are AMAZING! Love me some Anta she does wonders with my starter locs! Your hair looks fantastic!!
Buzz cuts! I feel like we normally try to equate length with beauty and feminine, and short cuts with being "butch" or "manly"
+allysafrancis Love this idea! Noted!
It's true! I used to rock an orange mohawk, then an undercut, then a buzz- I liked playing with my hair and doing different things with it but I also wanted others to see that whatever I did with it, didn't mean I identified with the stereotypes (ie buzzcut=butch). If I wanted to look more androgynous one day, I could. Or I could put a bow in my short hair and rock other styles. These days, I rock locs, which have their own stereotypes. But my hair is healthy and long and I love it- I had someone try to make fun of me saying I looked like Lauryn, which is an eyeroll cause she's beautiful and it was a compliment in the end lol
Allyse Francis I’m tempted to buzz all of this mess off. Due to trichotillomania my hair is really patchy and I’m tired of wearing a wig so who knows, hopefully my highly feminine appearance still shines through
Kaye Belle I personally like to keep my value in things that matter, like my morals and my character. Not my physical appearance
Ally Rose I recently buzzed and bleached my hair. I've gotten lots of compliments on it, and I'm sure you will, too!!
she looks so happy and radiates beauty and confidence!
Love it and your glasses too!
I'm a natural red head, well it's going white slowly now, but when I was 11 yrs old a black friend of mine gave me tiny plaits like that and I loved it. My hair was golden streaked bright copper coloured and I have to say that I loved those braids so, so much. I think this lady looked stunning with her ombre locks. I wish I could get my hair done like that but it's so short now. It would probably look weird on me at 58 lol. Still, watching this video reminded me of happy times. Thank you for showing black culture. Black people have really beautiful hair. Especially when it's done like this lady had hers.
Soooo pretty!! Feel like her true personality shined through 😍😍
I love both her natural hair and the box braids ❤️ she’s so pretty!
Your braids are so beautiful
+chloeattard Agreed!
@@refinery29 Agreed!
I love this video! I really appreciate the conversation this series allows different people to have about the cultural impact of hair! Keep up the good work 👏👏👏

Really enjoyed the conversation between the two braiders and client.👍🏾
I think they look amazing!! Gives you a whole new look! Beautiful!!
I LOVE this type of braids look ! It’s SOOOO pretty to me. I have never had braids because I think my hair may be to thin ? But love watching videos of it because it’s so nice
I absolutely love her ponytail in the beginning!
Wow gorgeous result!
I love watching videos of people getting their hair braided, it's so pleasing.
Wow! Love the finished result!
Having this type of hair definitely seems to be a lot harder and thanks to society and beauty standards, but I love that cultural hair styles are becoming more accepted, natural or braided, you should be able to rock whatever you want.
omg she looks so good! they did an incredible job
she looks absolutely stunning !!
Yes! I just got gray ombré braids installed on Friday and I’m loving them!

Omg it looks lovely
Came out sooo pretty!
she looks stunning! Wow!!
I loooove the way you incorporate the hairdressers and stylists in every video, you get to know so much about the person getting the 'makeover' but also about the artist behind it
+tamakitsune Thank you so much! Feedback like yours makes us want to keep creating content like this!
"everytime I have a style that I like I'm like ' oh this is me!'" yessss love thatt
That’s a nice quote I always wanted to blend in but now I love to stand out switching up my hair is one way to achieve that 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽yess I’m all for that

Her laugh is so precious! Btw I love the braids.
My god! She looks so beautiful with the braids! Also with the short hair she look really cute! Girl you really rock the style.
The braids are so beautiful!
She looked beautiful with the braids. Even i have a desire to do it once. May be i will try when i go out for a holiday. Very engaging and informative video. Loved listening to the stories of who use to braid their hair during their childhood days.
My mom could never do any braids so i use to ask my friends to braid my hair😊
The hairdresser with the Afro has like perfectly formed curls. It is so beautiful.
I Loved this Patia. You look so beautiful [before and after, let it be said]. Anta and Fatoumata clearly love their job, are so genuine. Was quite moving actually.
Your hair looks so beautiful and thick. I like how you are genuine, not this "ohmigod" that one usually hears when people see their hairdo
That looks awesome, they did a great job.
There's something so satisfying and zen-like watching her hair get braided. Your hair is fly AF!
+tiffanyisarobot Agreed! :)
I love this video. Beautiful women! I love encouraging women and girl power
