- In today's science corner we have a topic you all have been asking for - an introduction to car suspension. Here we touch upon the various types of suspension systems used today, how each of them works and what makes a car ride and handle better.

Yes thats true, similar engines can be used in multiple vehicle with slight change in tuning but suspension is very unique for every vehicle.

It's also Maruti Suzuki's mistake. Kei cars suits Japan and Japanese people. They are physically small in size. I think except Wagon R and new Jimny, no other Kei cars will work in India. Suzuki shouldn't use Kei designs for India.

Love that old leaf spring and torsion beam combo on the HM amby. Though it had near zero handling I loved the sway to the sides during turns. A suspension overhaul costed almost nothing back then.😅
Let's start with the basics.
1.The greater the sprung to unsprung mass ratio, the better the suspension,
-------- for comfort AND handling.
2. Make the natural ( resonance) frequency of the suspension equal to our natural walking frequency ( 1 Hz).
3. Try to keep the maximum amount of tyre rubber in flat contact with the ground under all dynamic conditions.
How does your point number 2 work. The spring will give infinite amplitudes at resonant frequencies.
Suspension consists of the spring and the damper as taught by our beloved 'talking cars' .
Besides, ever found any non theoretical material that will resonate to infinite amplitude?

If we people are forced to bounce around, that's the frequency were are most comfortable in.
Go kart like sports cars may have a higher suspension frequency and thus keep better tyre contact with the tarmac, at much higher speeds, at the expense of a bone jarring ride.
For a coil spring suspension, the spring wave equation is given by
D= F+d Sin( √b-π) . Where F is the force acting upon the wheel by the coil spring suspension. d is the diameter of the wheel . b is the balance factor .
b= 3.76 ( approximately ).

When the Jaguar XE first released, it made news for its aluminium body and weight savings but all that saved weight ended up in their 'integral link' multilink suspension system which was supposedly the reason why it had an amazing ride as well as 3 series matching handling. Not many reviewers from our country really went too deep into that. Did it not work in improving the ride in our road conditions ?
Also would love to understand what suspension technology makes Citroen so proud of the ride of the c5 aircross that they're marketing it so aggressively as a comfort class SUV.
Last but by no means least, Tata products nowadays have reviewers super happy with their ride comfort and rough road manners. In ur opinion does it hold a candle to these expensive cars in ride quality in our road conditions ?

Any rubber buffer placed between the spring spacing of your cars shocks is good enough to give a softer damping & better ride quality. I have tried this on my suv & I'm satisfied👍

The product is called Rogerab, it’s been in the market for years now.
The intention is to only increase ride height and prevent chassis damage.
Not very viable unless it fits a specific use.
its in the market from long time , before it was used only to increase little bit height nd to reduce the play of suspension little ,so we can prevent the rubbing of tyre with body after a Tyre up size ... only useful for this sort of things . i bought it for 1000 or 1500 per piece 5 years ago. no need of that in normal conditions.
