I teamed with Azen at some throwaway VA local event. He was so drunk he could barely hold the controller and walked around with Marth fsmashing and laughing. We still won teams. 3. Mew2King came down to ChuDat's place in 2007 where I was staying for the summer. He invited me to FCD in Indiana, and I said I couldn't go because I had no money. Jason paid for my ENTIRE TRIP. Mew2King's Marth on FD is still one of the most beautiful things Melee has ever produced. What began as a flowchart became a work of art. Like a stained glass window where all the little pieces have their perfect place. Ay. Ay. Ay.
Easily one of the best. Pioneered a lot of fundamentals you see players especially with Marth. He wrote the book on how to punish spacies that everyone followed until Zain improved it further (I never thought PPMD's punishes on spacies with Marth were as consistent or efficient). Despite this however, when you go back and watch a lot of classic old sets, it's very infuriating to see how much he got away with in the neutral game, and how much of it would be (and was considered at the time) gimmicky. His neutral was more of a 7.5 in a sea of 9-10's (Armada, PPMD, Mango, and Hbox later on) which is why he couldn't be top 3 in the era of the Gods
I'd say M2K is 4th best of all time simply due to his longevity and his dominance in 07-08 and late 2013.Some place Ken higher, but Ken was never able to come back and hang with the new crowd, M2K proved time and time again that he could
I def got a soft spot for the robot, he was the first top player I saw footage of on UA-cam with my brother and older cousin. Did not know what I was signing up for at that time in 06 but it entailed in a lifelong journey one that has no end in sight. Met some of the sickest people thru this scene
I think a lot of people forget that time there was a tourney with Smash 4, Project M and Melee all going on at the same time. All three games had Singles and Doubles. He won Teams in all 3 games, came in first in two of the games and came in second place, I think in Melee. He was definitely the Smash Goat when measured across all games.
A lot of people don't know that m2k actually had the best results of 2013, being up in the h2h against Mango 8-4 and his worst loss being against hbox/ppmd (depending who you think was worse that year). Meanwhile Mango, who got ranked first, had losses to Ice and PewpewU. The rest of their h2h records that year are pretty similar. The 2013 rankings in general showed a lot of legacy bias rather than just looking at the results in that 12 month period (Wobbles should have been higher, Hax$ and Kirbykaze lower, etc)
I think the joy of watching M2K was truly the roller coaster of “is he on today or is he off” Because when M2K is on, it’s crazy to see him play, but when he’s off… you just can’t help but shake your head.
Favorite moment is when Mew2King swept the entire crew, 16-0, in the 0C3 crew battle. Against Ken and Isai too. Ultimately he had some insane losers runs but was often never able to close the deal in singles. But crews and doubles he was always insane.
His run at UGC in 2016 was one of the best losers runs in history. It's sad that he wasn't able to win the 2nd set against Armada, because that would arguably have been THE best losers run ever. But it was still insane.
He was great overall, one of the best ever for sure, but never really dominated. He was the best in the world only twice, in 2007-2008, and then again for a 3 month period at the end of 2013.
i got to play m2k once in melee and once in brawl. absolute destruction each time of course. there was always all this talk about how weird and awkward he was and I guess he was that but in my experience he liked to laugh and have fun. i dont know why i'm talkin about him like he's dead or something LOL but definitely top 3 all time if we're going off pure legacy. and also he proved that if he focuses on a game he could still beat anyone in the world on any given day
I relate to Jason so much on a mental level, but he'll always be seen as such a great player in not just Smash Bros. but video games in general. I have no idea if he'll ever finish the book he was working on, but I would 100% buy it if he ever finished and released it.
Without M2K, Melee wouldn't have made it past 2007. Neither Marth or Shiek would be played how they are. Some of the places I see people ranking him are absolutely insane.
Heres the thing, winning every match is not likely for anyone no matter how good, so looking at how often he placed in the top 3 and even top 10 says a lot about how good he is.
Mew2king isnt the best melee player of all time id give him 4th or 5th but he is the smash player of all time in my opion for the franchise. My bet if for some reason tounreys startsd running smash master outside of smashcon he would win most of them (or wizzy but thats cause 64 would be a free win vs litteraly everyone)
People can’t imagine how hard it is to be good at two smash titles at the same time. For a period of time I played Melee, P+ & Ultimate on the same evenings with my buddy and sometimes my hands locked up and couldn’t perform in one game. Even in the same game switching a character mid set is insanely hard on top level. M2K will forever be my favourite smash player!
Is it just me or is the algorithm spot on lately with promoting up an coming UA-camrs… I keep getting these awesome videos made by people with less than 10k subs it’s been refreshing
My favorite ever. Love Armada and Mang0 but M2K is special. His sheik was so elegant, maybe not the combo's you see today but his sheik had style and elegance.
M2K IS The 4th best Melee player of all time, idc. The man was in the top 8 for 15+ YEARS. He was the brige between Ken and Mang0, two different eras. He was THE one to beat. And the man was number one in both Melee AND Brawl, AT THE SAME TIME. No other player in history has that title. Yeah, Mang0, Hbox and Armada have arguments for best Melee player of all time, but none of them dominated Brawl or placed high any ANY other Smash game. M2K did. He's the Smash GOAT until proven otherwise and I'll die on that hill. I'll never forget seeing his Dashizwiz set back in the 2000s and I didn't even know Smash had a competitive scene at the time (I was an oblivious scrub who played with items lol). Good times...
He created an entire chunk of the hard data available on this game himself He was number one in two games at once As far as I keep hearing he's one of if not the best doubles players of all time ..... I mean can I stop now...? What are we talking about.......? Look I'm a casual spectator, boom, I know next to nothing, done; but some of that dudes combos and the precision with with he follows people below the stage and how early before an opponents recovery attempt he's already dropped his controller because he KNOWS like for SURE that they can't reach the stage, you say he earned the name "the robot" because early on he couldn't deal with mind games but let's be clear to somebody like me who wasn't "there" for everything and just watches some stuff every now and then 'cuz I liked the game and the high tier is crazy, that nickname scans on the other level far better. He can SD when he's not feeling it all he wants, in my head this guy has the greatest precise potential of anybody I've ever seen, other people follow and bait, when this guy in on his game he's not being aggressive or reacting or any of the other things other top players do, he's like that scene in IP Man where he's punching a guy but the screen cuts to him just hammering away for hours on his practice dummy and you just know he's not even there he's just operating on honed excellence pure and perfect understanding of the moments after this is over when he already knows every second of how it went down 'cuz it's just causality or w/e ....yes, I've had a drink tonight No seriously though why his is doubles dominance so undersold...? I'll hear some yt video/mini doc wax on about every single tournament and match up, and then they'll speed blitz "oohandhealsowoneverydoublesmatcheverlul" out like an auctioneer. How is he on top in two games at once AND one of if not the best at an entire category of match, and nobody sells that harder...? I get singles get the ogling eyes, but how is he gonna have two other entire categories of "the best" [ie only person to top two at once and doubles performances] and still not get like seven thousand times as many flowers as he does....? WHY does everybody say "ooh right and I guess he's won almost every doubles match ever" and then move on like that's not as valuable a piece of information as exactly what place he finished at some tournament they LITERALLY can't even pronounce the name of xD [no shade there at all, just funny]
#1 in 2 games Lemme dominate this game and in my spare time I'll be world champion here too M2K has to be the best smash player ever will this ever be achieved again?
16:09 check it out same redheaded girl popping the fuck off when jason beats cody and juan dunno who that is if its family or someone close or just a fan but absolutely awesome to see
To me there’s two players that pushed forward Melee. One is HBox, there was a point in history where everyone was trying to beat his Puff and developing techs to do it Armada developed Young Link and perfected Fox. And the other is M2K, he contributed so much in the early stage of Melee to even make it a truly competitive game. There’s no Melee esport scene without him. To me he is top 3. 1. Armada 2. Hungrybox 3. M2K
I don’t think M2K’s proficiency at Brawl can be overstated enough. He wasn’t just the top player, he was untouchable. IIRC he never lost a single set in tournament in Brawl’s first year.
M2k is who I’d consider the absolute Melee expert. His knowledge of the game can not be overstated. He may not be the best of the best but his knowledge is unmatched
He's the GOAT of Smash, and I put him at #4 all time in Melee only behind HBox, Armada, and Mango. For me, his accomplishments and tenure far outshine those of Ken, Leffen, Zain, PPMD and everybody else.
I honestly think he's very overrated and just a bad competitor in general: he tends to sandbag a lot, and give up whenever he is not in the mood. Also the Shroomed Sheik chaingrab incident at Apex shows how much a scumbag he is imo.
He may not be the highest rated god but I love watching M2K play when he's at his peak. He is an absolute beast and you can really see his game knowledge shine through. He is tied with Mango for my favorite player.
M2ks intellect is his most Valuable asset. He created frame data charts, alone, in his room, for years. Before anyone would even consider doing anything of the sort
I got to play M2K in melee a fair bit in 2007, I was still in high school and couldn't go to much outside of the region but made it to several Chu biweeklies. To this day I don't think there has ever been someone more ahead of the pack by the margin that he was (including Armada)... it was messed up. LOL great vid :)
As someone on the Autism Spectrum, think it's a little weird that you talk about M2K's social difficulties, problems reading other players, and extreme technical dedication to the game without bringing up that he's on the Autism Spectrum. It's an important part to include in his story because it has influenced everything from his dedication to the game to his play style to his offbeat and quirky sense of humor that he's famous for. One common Autism symptom is that we got overstimulated by sensory stimuli very easily. He probably dropped out of sandstorm because of the strobe lights. Those are a killer sensory trigger for people on the spectrum and a lot of us can't handle strobe lights for longer than a few minutes at a time. M2K's difficulties playing while crowds are cheering against him are also probably an Autism thing just as much as they are a psychological thing, because a lot of people on the Autism spectrum struggle greatly with loud noises, and our sensory problems get worse when we're stressed or under pressure. These are just a couple of examples but I really can't stress enough how many times his Autism diagnosis comes up in the varying stories I've heard about M2K.
I really appreciate you bringing this up. Though it’s known and people have been told by him that m2k has autism, he hasn’t stated it publicly I don’t believe. I know he has said publicly in a video that he has a caretaker though. It felt like it wasn’t my place to bring it up since he hasn’t said it to my knowledge. I asked my girlfriend who’s brother has autism and she said it was best I don’t mention it if I can’t find him saying first hand that he has it. I wanted to be as respectful as possible without assuming what he has. I hope this helps 😄
One thing I value about M2k and why I have him ranked 4th ever is just the sheer amount he pioneered for how the game is played today. Also just insane volume of quality performances.
@@JeramiJoseph It makes me mad when big names quit like they make the game so interesting ken m2k etc all should play at least every now and the preserving the legacy and history of the game and seeing new players rise above old players or get crushed by old players is what keeps the game interesting

Sorry what? Top competitor in 2 games, never a top player in Ult, 4 or 64.
I'd say M2K is 4th best of all time simply due to his longevity and his dominance in 07-08 and late 2013.Some place Ken higher, but Ken was never able to come back and hang with the new crowd, M2K proved time and time again that he could
Yeah I’m right there with ya.
In Ken’s defense he was on the rise before wrist pain forced him to retire.
I def got a soft spot for the robot, he was the first top player I saw footage of on UA-cam with my brother and older cousin. Did not know what I was signing up for at that time in 06 but it entailed in a lifelong journey one that has no end in sight. Met some of the sickest people thru this scene
Mew2King will always be my favorite player, at least when it comes to Melee. I loved watching him compete.
That’s so awesome! Watching compete was super sick back then. Especially when he came back at big house 9 and went on a run!
Mew2king is an absolute gem in the smash community. His dedication and skill in every game is unmatched. The best overall Smash player. GOAT!
He was insane at all games, so cool to see how cracked he was
I think a lot of people forget that time there was a tourney with Smash 4, Project M and Melee all going on at the same time. All three games had Singles and Doubles. He won Teams in all 3 games, came in first in two of the games and came in second place, I think in Melee. He was definitely the Smash Goat when measured across all games.
that is actually so insane lol. do you know which tournament it was?
@@JeramiJoseph All I remember is it was pretty close to Smash 4's launch and before Nintendo made everyone stop hosting PM tournaments.
who was the guy blurred out at 5:16 and why
It looks like DJNintendo, probably censored due to allegations
9:10 secret smash handshake
LOL
0:10 Jack Harlow????
A lot of people don't know that m2k actually had the best results of 2013, being up in the h2h against Mango 8-4 and his worst loss being against hbox/ppmd (depending who you think was worse that year). Meanwhile Mango, who got ranked first, had losses to Ice and PewpewU. The rest of their h2h records that year are pretty similar. The 2013 rankings in general showed a lot of legacy bias rather than just looking at the results in that 12 month period (Wobbles should have been higher, Hax$ and Kirbykaze lower, etc)
Oh wow that’s crazy! It def would have been super wild to see m2k go from number 1 in the world from 07-08 and 2013!
I think the joy of watching M2K was truly the roller coaster of “is he on today or is he off”
Because when M2K is on, it’s crazy to see him play, but when he’s off… you just can’t help but shake your head.
But his tournaments he did well were so fun to watch 😂
@@JeramiJoseph right! That marth combo you included was spectacular.
M2K forever will be my favorite Smash player ever
That’s so hype 😍
Favorite moment is when Mew2King swept the entire crew, 16-0, in the 0C3 crew battle. Against Ken and Isai too.
Ultimately he had some insane losers runs but was often never able to close the deal in singles.
But crews and doubles he was always insane.
He was maybe even the GOAT at crews and doubles. He only has a debate against armada for dubs. Crews he sounded like a monster 😂
His run at UGC in 2016 was one of the best losers runs in history. It's sad that he wasn't able to win the 2nd set against Armada, because that would arguably have been THE best losers run ever. But it was still insane.
@@samskott2344 agreed man. That was one heck of a run. Same with Super Smash Con 2018. But UGC would have definitely been more impressive.
Jeremy still up 1-0 against m2k goat shit
And it seems like it’s gonna stay that way 😏
He was great overall, one of the best ever for sure, but never really dominated. He was the best in the world only twice, in 2007-2008, and then again for a 3 month period at the end of 2013.
i got to play m2k once in melee and once in brawl. absolute destruction each time of course. there was always all this talk about how weird and awkward he was and I guess he was that but in my experience he liked to laugh and have fun. i dont know why i'm talkin about him like he's dead or something LOL but definitely top 3 all time if we're going off pure legacy. and also he proved that if he focuses on a game he could still beat anyone in the world on any given day
That’s hype you gotta play him back in the day. Dude was a monster at any game he touches. Glad he still plays to this day 😄
All time he’s the 4th best player ever in melee, in smash he’s the GOAT.
Agreed!
1:45 Don't put these intrusive subscription "reminders" in your videos.
I relate to Jason so much on a mental level, but he'll always be seen as such a great player in not just Smash Bros. but video games in general. I have no idea if he'll ever finish the book he was working on, but I would 100% buy it if he ever finished and released it.
Also he was really good in PM at one point, and is argubly the best smash coach ever from training people like Sparg0 and MkLeo if I'm right
I can’t wait for his book! Will be a fun read. He was really the smash master!
Congratulations on beating M2K! You’re my new favorite smasher now
Hell yeah 😂😍
Mew2king isnt the best melee player of all time id give him 4th or 5th but he is the smash player of all time in my opion for the franchise. My bet if for some reason tounreys startsd running smash master outside of smashcon he would win most of them (or wizzy but thats cause 64 would be a free win vs litteraly everyone)
I put him 4 as well.
Bro imagine learning your first major opponent ever is going to be fucking Mew2King omg 💀
So I asked him in his twitch chat if he feels that Melee or Brawl was his best game. He said Brawl.
He dominated for a lot longer, I can see that for sure
Legit did not know that thumbnail pic was m2k 😂
😂😂😂
He’s was the best at both games for like 2 years!! He’s the goat
He was undeniably incredible at smash
@@JeramiJoseph hbox next 👀
People can’t imagine how hard it is to be good at two smash titles at the same time. For a period of time I played Melee, P+ & Ultimate on the same evenings with my buddy and sometimes my hands locked up and couldn’t perform in one game. Even in the same game switching a character mid set is insanely hard on top level. M2K will forever be my favourite smash player!
M2K was such a game changer! In the whole community!!
Is it just me or is the algorithm spot on lately with promoting up an coming UA-camrs… I keep getting these awesome videos made by people with less than 10k subs it’s been refreshing
I hope so! Glad you found the channel and enjoy the stuff! Appreciate it dawg! 😄
My favorite ever. Love Armada and Mang0 but M2K is special. His sheik was so elegant, maybe not the combo's you see today but his sheik had style and elegance.
So sick he was your fav! A lot of his fans are coming out this video! I miss seeing him play too
M2K IS The 4th best Melee player of all time, idc.
Yeah I’m in the same boat that he’s number 4!
He created an entire chunk of the hard data available on this game himself
He was number one in two games at once
As far as I keep hearing he's one of if not the best doubles players of all time
He can SD when he's not feeling it all he wants, in my head this guy has the greatest precise potential of anybody I've ever seen, other people follow and bait, when this guy in on his game he's not being aggressive or reacting or any of the other things other top players do, he's like that scene in IP Man where he's punching a guy but the screen cuts to him just hammering away for hours on his practice dummy and you just know he's not even there he's just operating on honed excellence pure and perfect understanding of the moments after this is over when he already knows every second of how it went down 'cuz it's just causality or w/e
....yes, I've had a drink tonight
No seriously though why his is doubles dominance so undersold...?
He is a legend, thats the answer
epic! good stuff Jeremy
Appreciate it Mike! 😍
#1 in 2 games
Lemme dominate this game and in my spare time I'll be world champion here too
M2K has to be the best smash player ever will this ever be achieved again?
You kinda breezed over him COOOOOOOOOOOOKING Leffen..
Why did he choose the name mew2king? Did he mane mewtwo at any point? Was he into pokemon???
8:50 omg his face i'm laughing so hard i can't bro why they do him like that 😂😂💀
16:09 check it out same redheaded girl popping the fuck off when jason beats cody and juan dunno who that is if its family or someone close or just a fan but absolutely awesome to see
I think it’s a fan! I might know who that is, I think it’s someone from AZ
@@JeramiJoseph did you put the clips next to eachoter because of that or did it just happen? either way it made the video even better
All time he’s probably my 5th favourite singles, and my favourite doubles player. Absolute fucking king 👑
That’s so hype 😄
Respect for blurring out that monsters face in one of the group pics
Damn been hearing about this dude forever and he lived miles away this whole time. Pretty cool.
1. Armada
2. Hungrybox
3. M2K
i dont care what anyone says he is the best player to me. hes just different
M2K is honestly my favorite smash player of all time. And I would put him in top 3 of all time. Mango, Armada, Mew2king
Knowledge of the game? #1 of all time.
Skill? Top 5. When he was dialed in and had a strong mentality, he made top-tier players look like bots.
M2K is flat out the best Smash player of all time. One of the Melee goats, goat of Brawl, goat of Project M, and top Smash 4 player.
@@whatdoievenputhere11 agreed dawg
1:15 are his glasses just resting on his nose?
I thought the exact same thing 😂😂😂 I think he had the other side of his glasses around his ear, but hard to tell in the pic lol
M2K is my favorite player of all time, but I think others are beyond him in all time greatness. I would put him in the top 5 though for sure.
Tons of mew2king fans coming out this vid! Super sick to see!

Gotta love M2K. Very polite and respectable character.
I love you
Glad to see him playing SF6 now!
Yeah, super dope he’s still playing something!
I don’t think M2K’s proficiency at Brawl can be overstated enough. He wasn’t just the top player, he was untouchable. IIRC he never lost a single set in tournament in Brawl’s first year.
It’s so insane how good he was at both games. Dude really is the smash master
I find it so amusing that Rainbow Cruise of all stages used to be tournament legal.
@@TeddySlendergrass I have no idea how that happened 😂
M2k is who I’d consider the absolute Melee expert. His knowledge of the game can not be overstated. He may not be the best of the best but his knowledge is unmatched
Even to this day I still think he has the most knowledge!
He's the GOAT of Smash, and I put him at #4 all time in Melee only behind HBox, Armada, and Mango. For me, his accomplishments and tenure far outshine those of Ken, Leffen, Zain, PPMD and everybody else.
He’s no doubt the smash goat. Yeah I put him there 100%!
Holy shit a Melee video in Raymar style is like chemically designed for me i love this

6:26 Pretty sure it's Cutting-edge Games Conference... at San Francisco State University... 19?
thank god you now lol. I was stumped haha
Man was balding by 19
I honestly think he's very overrated and just a bad competitor in general: he tends to sandbag a lot, and give up whenever he is not in the mood. Also the Shroomed Sheik chaingrab incident at Apex shows how much a scumbag he is imo.
M2k can still beat 95% of us
Bro the fist bump of armada at 14:18 is so wholesome. He is genuinely happy for him
1. Mango
2. Armada
3. Hungrybox
4. Mew2King
5. Ken
6. Zain
7. Leffen
8. PPMD
9. Azen
10. Plup

He may not be the highest rated god but I love watching M2K play when he's at his peak. He is an absolute beast and you can really see his game knowledge shine through. He is tied with Mango for my favorite player.
So glad to see his fans coming in hot for this vid!
6:43 It always baffles me that Rainbow Cruise was legal.
@@cerealbowl7038 me too 😂😂
M2ks intellect is his most Valuable asset. He created frame data charts, alone, in his room, for years. Before anyone would even consider doing anything of the sort
Dude is actually a genius
The title is kind of stupid. He was the one of the 5 best ever. Towards the bottom of the top 5. Easy.
Just showing many ask the question. Not dissing his skill at all like mentioned in the video
Why was DJ nintendo blurred?
Yeah
about that....

He was certainly good, and he is still good.
Thank you so much 😄 so dope you were playing so early
I think the exact opposite.
A gamer is a god? This is why gamers aren't taken seriously.
Have you never heard someone being called a "god" at a sport? Fuck off.
Love to see this style video for Melee after seeing it with UFC fighters
Glad you enjoyed it! I actually got the inspiration for this vid on an NFL video!
Great video! You've made some awesome content lately
Thank you so much! Super happy to see stuff like this 😄
i play sheik because of the 1000 edgeguards video.
That’s so hype!
One thing I value about M2k and why I have him ranked 4th ever is just the sheer amount he pioneered for how the game is played today. Also just insane volume of quality performances.
Yeah he truly evolved the meta and has changed the game in so many ways
okay so when you playing street fighter 6 with m2k
I have never played street fighter, he’s got me on that 😂😂 guess we 1-1 lol
soooo, he never played as mew two lol?
Not really ever to my knowledge. Maybe a bit in friendlies or in a smaller tournament for fun
My faves are PPMD HBOX and of course the goat M2K
Hell yeah 😄
I remember that smash summit I was such a massive M2K fan during that era before being won over by Zain but that marth is still a work of art on FD
Such a sick run. I remember watching that too!
Mewtwoking could could easily be top 20 if he came back even when he joins random tournaments he takes sets off of top 5 players every now and then
id love to see it
@@JeramiJoseph It makes me mad when big names quit like they make the game so interesting ken m2k etc all should play at least every now and the preserving the legacy and history of the game and seeing new players rise above old players or get crushed by old players is what keeps the game interesting
yeah I want to see people play as long as possible too. but people move on with their life as some people can't keep up or make it their lives anymore@@7dogguy
Most new players wont realise it or know it, but M2K should be in the top 5, and he single handidly saved Melee with his match vs Shizwiz i remember being 18 and watching that qnd thinking wow what the actual..... melee boomed shortly after that match.
That’s so wild. Yeah he really did save the game we play 22 whole years after it’s release 😭
It is very difficult to keep being good at melee when you get used to brawl (extremely slow and more forgiving with edgegrabbing). Probably was the reason he failed so hard in that timespan.
