How good do you think Armada would be if he competed today?
I think Armada could definitely keep up with the modern meta, even winning a major. But....there are way way way more players at peak Armadas level than there were back then. I think Armada would have to both grind and more importantly WANT IT. I think his skill is there but it would not be free. Game 5s and probably close losses to the likes of even top 20 players. Maybe a top 50 on a good/bad day. I just dont seem him DOMINATING like he used to but i do see him taping into Prime Armada and beating anyone
@@hhh19559 I’d love to see it or at least theory craft if he could! Super fun to think about even if he won’t come back to competing. You have some great points for it!
Extremely good. Dude has ice in his veins
Top 7
@@fupalover that would be sick to see! I def think he could do some damage!
The nickname "the swedish sniper" started because of his PM Pit. It carried over into melee because.. well.. but it originally referred specifically to his Pit.
Ooooooo wow I had no idea! That’s actually sick. That’s something I didn’t know. Thank you!
Wasn't it also because of that famous Peach umbrella into turnip snipe combo clip too?
@@islandboy9381 that clip he even says "the swedish sniper strikes *again*"... He already had that nickname. Also that turnip was NUTS.
@@JeramiJosephthis is PM erasure and I will not stand for it!!
@@ChrisVickeryinajarthat whole combo was crazy
the thing with armada is that he wasn't only good but was very professional in his behavior aswell.Calm, collected, respectfull and god damn good at the game. His peach was very agressive and many people actually don't fully comprehend how difficult it is to play agro peach like he did.
I loved how he presented himself and went about tournaments. His mindset with competing was so nuts. And his Agro peach was so insane to watch
@@JeramiJoseph i think if he was living in the US he would go on competing. He wasn't tired of the competition that's why he is speedrunning, i think the back and forth travels from eu to the us drove him out
@@Ikati-ny8fr yeah I can totally see that. And leffen is having that debate right now too. That travel is so hard on them
@@Ikati-ny8fr that the smash does not pay all that well and he could not manage to become personality like mango or Hbox has.
@@AL-lh2ht Speedrunning does not pay aswell but he is pushing his times hard these days.I think he got tired of traveling and wanted a more normal life.
The fact about him never losing to anyone below top 5 is the most insane thing ever.
Its probably my biggest reason why he is the best to ever play, because that kind of consistency is completely nuts.
His consistency is unpaired! Dude was a monster
@@JeramiJoseph Also something you didnt really get into in the video. He was the only one that kept Hungrybox from completely taking over. Hbox was really doing some of his best work, but was still only second place to Armada. Just an ironclad grip on melee.
I think Armada's consistency far surpasses any claim against him being the greatest of all time. The man was a tournament winning machine for such a long time that it's insane
I def see the argument! Many give it to mang0 though for longevity
@@JeramiJoseph I feel like people who give it to mang0 for longevity does not count armada's career until he went to the US. I get that argument but at the same time he ended up 2nd in his first tournament overseas, losing a puff vs peach matchup while being exhausted from jet lag. Its not like he came from nowhere.
@@SuperKorken the US was where the top talent tournaments were and still are. That's why high level foreign players like Amsa and Leffen moved to the States. His achievements in Europe don't carry the same weight for that reason
The fact he has a positive head to head against every god is my main reason into believing he's the best all time dude literally had no bracket demons he was the demon who slaughtered everyone in his path consistently
What makes him the GOAT, to me, are the things that you can't quantify. He never got rattled, he never beat himself, he never made a sloppy decision, and he would make you EARN it if you actually took a set off of him. Someone could be up 3 stocks to 1, mere inches from taking the game, and he would just be the terminator. He made everybody scrape and claw to get even just two seconds of advantage on him, and when he saw a weakness... that was it, he was going to split that weakness wide open. If people don't already think that he's unquestionably the GOAT, they didn't start watching until after 2017.
When he closed the set against S2J, I couldn't believe it. That was the day I gave in to the swedish overlords.
@@coachbarn I was fortunate enough to be live for that set. I can't tell you what it was like to watch him clamp the fuck down on S2J for those last three games and snuff out his will to keep going. And of course everyone in the crowd was cheering for the upset, and after he wins he just had a look of "who do you think I am?" on his face haha
he never made mistakes and was an impenetrable wall
I mean...hbox rattled his nerves so bad it forced him to retire so....
Armada remained the goat for years after retirement, it wasn't until about 2022 that Mango could have a claim to it again (based solely on longevity as Armada's peaks AND consistency were higher). Armada's level of consistency is so insanely rare that it's hard to find anyone who compares in all of esports
Armada was so insane to watch. Dude blessed us on melee
Mango's claim in 2022 was pure hype and emotions because he beat Zain in an exhibition tournament. Mango won 2 majors in the time between Armada's retirement and 2022. Armada won 4 majors in the year that he retired. Armada has still outplaced Mango in most tournaments they attended together and it's a massive gap. When Mango outplaces Armada, Armada in still in the top 8. Mango never had a real claim and he still doesn't.
@@coachbarn pgstats and facts say otherwise
Mango 🐐
@@patrickgalaxy9913PG stats is also biased and panders to the community to get likes.
Armada will always be my favorite melee player. True dedication, perseverance, and passion.
Def a huge fan over here too!
We really never gonna let go of the way Armada says the word "brother."
Sorry. The meme is too good. He even embraced it lol
Welcome to the brudderhood
Back in the day if Armada participated in a tourney, it was a safe bet he’d finish top 3. You would hope your fav player was playing his best *and* pray that Armada was having an off day.
God I remember those times! He was unstoppable
I honestly have no idea how can anyone make an argument to Armada not being the greatest Melee player of all time.
To come from a weaker region, for years maining a character that never truly was at the top of the tier list, and still have the crazy results in both singles and doubles that you mention in the video... Ever since the start of his career!
Dude is insane, in every best way possible.
The GOAT argument is always skubtastic. Like Armada has by far the conistency, stats, and dominance. But at the same time Hbox is objectively the most accomplished player with like 12 more major wins then both armada and mango. Hbox also has the most 1st yearly rankings.
Mango has not been ranked 1st since 2014 and has no real stats overr either of them.
He has an untouchable record undoubtedly. Mang0 just has longevity and even like 4 years on armadas competitive. Which is p insane and he’s still on top. Def a close call though
@@JeramiJosephIf Mang0's only argument is 4 more years of longevity while not getting ranked 1 in any of those years, it's not a close call at all.
Mango is the Goat because he’s still winning super majors. He’s not consistent that’s for damn sure. But dude won like 3 or 4 majors the second half of 2022. Dudes been winning majors since 2007. I would kill to see how Armada does against Zain or Cody
Armada and Mang0 have complete opposite legacies. Armada's is short and dominant. Mang0's is long and inconsistent as fuck. Honestly, the Mang0 GOAT conversation is dominated by his stans. Mang0nation is a real force. He's definitely the GOAT for the most number of people, but those people have questionable taste. 😅
So I really doubt we'll ever see true consensus on this topic. Too bad covid happened, or we'd have a clear winner in Hbox for sure.
Growing up watching him win all the time, I always rooted against armada - but looking back, his run was absolutely nuts and I miss seeing him dominate brackets
Same here. I wanted to see armada lose so much since he was so good. But man I’d give anything to see those days again!
I miss Team UGS in dubs. Armada and Android seriously helped with keeping doubles alive. Wish they were still playing
I miss team UGS 😭 maybe one day we can have a special appearance
The brudders vs pewfat was so hype. The peak of melee doubles
Funny enough the reason why Armada is one of my favorite players of all time is because he was European like me and the fact that everyone just wanted to see Armada lose at some point because it rarely happened anymore. Armada losing a game to a non top 20 player was like a miracle
Unbelievable how good he was a his aura and presence when playing was unmatched. No one scratched him 😭
@@JeramiJoseph bro's mental was galaxies ahead of the competition! Damn near unshakable! It's very rare and arguably just as important as having the skill to play at that level :)
Watching this video brings back so many memories.
Rooting for Armada, for europe, watching Leffen rise up to beating every god, the "swedish era" were Leffen and Armada dominated tournements for month, the rise of "the brothers", doubles in his prime, Leffen and Ice sadly never winning a doubles tournement...hating Hbox all this time only to watch his clutchgod evo win at 2 am in the morning thinking "alright, Armada got this next game"...until you realize how crazy good that guy is and finally having fun watching him. Armada vs S2J, coming back game 3 and clutching the set, Plups win over Armada and he was SMILING. M2Ks Summit win over Armada and he was so happy for him...
So many memories. Now i rarely watch melee anymore, but i will definitly tell my kids about this era. It was beautifull
I miss seeing his Peach so much! I more or less mained Peach when I first found out about competitive Melee and him being a fellow Scandinavian destroying with Peach and being a doubles god with his brother of all things was so inspiring! When he retired Peach and doubles more or less died for me😢
Awe man. That is awesome to hear you had such inspo from armada!
"His win ratio was nearly 69% to win a major at which he competed"
Nice!
I know right! AZ AZ AZ
I will always miss armada being at the top. I used to love seeing him in grands all the time cause you knew you were going to see peak gameplay and it wouldn't be easy
He was on top for so long, I even wanted to see him lose. But once he was gone, his gameplay was missed by so many. Of course I appreciated how damn good he was. But man he was such a pleasure to watch
Mang0 may be the GOAT since he's one of the main things that keeps the scene so exciting with his playstyle, persona, and maintained God status.
But by pure acclamation, Armada was untouchable. 82 / 119 wins, never placing below 5th, and not losing outside the top 6 for 8 years are all feats no one else has made.
He also has an even or POSITIVE record against EVERYONE in Melee except SilentSpectre
Dude is a monster.
Armada was so good oh my god 😂
@@JeramiJoseph 😂 so good 😂 omg 😂 wow 😂 nice 😂 dude 😂
Armada is still the GOAT imo.
@@billwoods7578 he isn't and never was
@@the_epic_gamr_boi What's Armadas head to head against Mango and Hbox again?
He'll remain the GOAT IMO. The numbers just say it clearly, and this video does a nice job going over most of them. That era of Melee was also the one I was most into the game so that plays into it. At this point I see it as a post-GOAT era where we're not deciding who's the GOAT, but simply enjoying more sick Melee.
Thank you for pointing this out! Appreciate it. More sick melee is all we can ask for!
While I'm a Mango fan at heart, I will always respect and appreciate what Armada did for the game. Dude was a beast!
Love this. No one couldn’t respect him. He’s super sick!
The Best.
Longevity will change nothing. No one has averages that even come close to his in ranking, tournament results, Head2Head, Doubles, and more in addition to hailing from Sweden and the logistical nightmare that was for travel and competitive practice
I def see the argument! But man, longevity goes a long way though!
@@JeramiJoseph I get where a lot of people are coming from, staying competitive as the Meta has changed and been refined has a place for merit. That said, there is also merit in knowing when to hang up one's career
Tom Brady up until last season had 7 rings, a positive record 21 seasons in a row, countless comebacks that seemed otherwordly, won his final ring after being ousted from New England in his first year with Tampa (who had been mediocre for close to two decades), put up the best statistical season of his QB career in 2021 at the age of 44 and retired after almost repeating 28-3 against the future Super Bowl champs in the divisional round. Not the perfect send off, but very Brady-esque
...and then he returned for one more season, had his worst numbers, went negative for the first time in his career, and Tampa now appears to be in the same spot Sacksonville was in 2018. Sure he hit 10,000 yards, but people rightly call this return a massive mistake. Same goes for Michael Jordan returning with the Wizards after his dynasty in the 90s
Could Armada have continued playing and been as dominant as before? Yes
Was it worth risking a decade of stats that will never be achieved in Melee again? No
Adam knew when to hold and when to fold
This is not complicated in the GOAT debate.
Armada: by far the most consistency and dominance with stats that make him look good even compared to GOATs of other sports.
Hbox: most years ranked 1st and like twelves more major wins then both Armada and Mango.
Mango: best marketing (has not been ranked 1st since 2014).
That 82 out of 119 tournament stat is still crazy to me, can Zero or Mkleo compete with that stat? A genuin question, after 10 minutes of searching I didn’t find their tournament winrates.
ZeRo does have a crazier stat. He was undefeated for like 40 or 50 majors in a row? That is an untouchable record I don’t think anyone will come close to in smash again
@@JeramiJoseph Wikipedia says 56 over about a year. It's absurd to put it lightly. I agree that it might be one that is never broken.
Wikipedia page reads: "record-breaking 56 consecutive tournament wins in the game from November 2014 to October 2015"
@@JeramiJoseph Zero might have been a little bit more lucky that during the beginning of the smash 4 era it was basically just him and it took the rest of the players like a year to even slightly catch up to him but still an absolute ridiculous record
@@patoa3481 there were still a lot of hitters in the scene at the time but no one was able to touch him. Maybe a few sets were taken but that’s nuts
@@TheBoss4711 yeah no one will touch that record I think
When you layout the stats, this is literally just melee's version of the Jordan vs Lebron goat debate. Dominance, vs Longevity of excellence. Jordan and Armada on one side, Mango and Lebron on the other.
Sure, parallels are a bit off. But the themes are similar enough that I figured I'd bring it up.
I also got this video here on the real GOAT debate in style of that video!
ua-cam.com/video/Sux3uF_IDzU/v-deo.html
It’s more Tom Brady or Joe Montana
There's a little bit difference and it's called 'eSport'. In a major professional sport when your body is on the line you really have a timeframe limit that is just natural to all human being. In a video game you either stay grinding and stay being great even if that means your aren't the same dominant force or you became too shitty due to lack of interest like M2K, who is a legend and an all time great, or you directly retired and by the time being forgotten and putting in a pedestal as an historical figure and contributor of the game.
That's why I tend to agree that Armada will become a legend in the same sense of Ken, and that's why I have the ultimate respect for Mang0 and Hbox.
Even Hbox said in that famous speech in Wich he called mang0 the goat after the summit 11 win. "After all you are still here". That resumes it all.
and then there is Hbox that is objectivly more accomplishment then both of them with way, way moree major wins and more years ranked 1st.
@A L I haven't kept up with Melee since Armada retired. 4-5 years of Melee has happened sincs his retirement. So sure, that's probably right.
While evo being prestigious may have been a factor, he actually returned for evo 2013 because he got to bring his little brother Android, who was let down after his retirement. It’s talked about in episode 4 of metagame or maybe episode 5. Many players had already asked armada to go to evo prior to prog learning that android being brought over with him would make him consider coming back for evo 2013.
So he returned for Android, which is cute and wholesome
That it so wholesome. I remember seeing that in meta game yeah!
The stats at the end!! Jeez. Imo the GOAT of Melee.
I can see it! His case is so solid!
Armada has always and likely WILL always be my favourite Melee player. His dominance was unmatched and we lost a god when he retired.
So glad to see he still has some solid fans! I thought he would retire then maybe come back after a year like in 2013. But nope he’s done 😭
@@JeramiJoseph First time was just practice, can't retire without practicing it first
I think GOAT discussions still need to include Hbox. Armada is obviously the current best contender for number 1 with his immaculate record, but I think it's a lot tighter between Mang0 and Hbox. To me, it all comes down to whether or not one of those two can have one more dominant season of being number 1 before they step back from Melee.
There's still a lot of time between then and now, but I think so long as they keep competing, either Mang0 or Hungrybox will have earned the title from Armada.
"Greatest Of All Time" demands longevity, but I think it goes without saying that Adam is the undisputed "Greatest During His Time".
The GOAT argument is always skubtastic. Like Armada has by far the conistency, stats, and dominance. But at the same time Hbox is objectively the most accomplished player with like 12 more major wins then both armada and mango. Hbox also has the most 1st yearly rankings.

Hbox absolutely deserves to be in there. Def check this out if you haven’t yet.

Armada was THE bracket demon. Stats aside, seeing him match against whichever player i was rooting for plunged me into the pits of despair.
You say only Armada was really up for debate when it comes to Mang0’s GOAT status but what about Hbox? Couldn’t he be considered to have had a better legacy than Mang0 at this point?
I got you homie. Already made a GOAT debate vid 😁
ua-cam.com/video/Sux3uF_IDzU/v-deo.html
Short answer is no, but he’s a clear third and an amazing player who’s done a lot to bridge the gap between smash scenes.
If this were before 2022 I'd have Hbox as #2. But Mango really showed up to contend with the new stars while Hbox severely regressed to being the guy who'd get 5th and occasionally 7th behind Zain, aMSa, Mango, iBDW, and Jmook
Hbox was better than Mango from 2015-2019. Mango was better than Hbox 2008-2014 and 2020-2022.
@@ephraimkwon66 Nonesense objectivily Hbox is more accomplished then both armada and Mango with like 12 more major wins and more years ranked 1st.
You can't just decide things without actually knowig the stats.
I wish so badly we could get another battle of the gods event with armada and pp 😢
That would be so awesome. Sadly there was only one, and it was a super cool and unique event to watch
as much as i don't like to say it he's probably the best player i've ever seen. i bet he would regain his dominance in half a year if he made it his business.
Would be so cool to see
idk man. That sounds pretty GOAT to me. I didn't even know this tuff. holy shit....
He’s pretty fucking insane. Untouchable record, but mang0 has longevity at the top is what the arguments are
I ABSOLUTELY think Armada can take the best spot again. With a lot of time and effort. Melee has evolved very well, I think he's capable of doing so too. Pure GOAT
That would be so sick if that happened. I’d love to see it. But sadly I just don’t think he will come back to playing competitively
He'd be so far behind at this point it would take so much effort. I dont think he could do it without only playing melee AND moving to america to play the slippi kids here
@@valushartless5130Doubt. 2018 Armada is still better than 2023 lloD and Polish and they took sets from the top top players like Cody and Zain.
Realistically the GOAT.
I've been watching melee since like 2008 competitively (not so much anymore) and ngl I miss this dude and a lot of the other OGs...
Miss a lot of them too! Looking back on the older days (2014-15 for me) were such sick times for spectators
i see armada as the mkleo of melee basically. Insane streaks and records with levels of dominance unheard of. If Armada did play today I have no doubt he has the skill to become top 5. However, just like we are seeing with mkleo right now, players are getting better and able to rival now. So I doubt he would have the dominance he had before even if he was top 1 but no doubt he is the GOAT of melee only contended by possibly mang0

That’d be hype lol
In order to compete on that level you have to be untiltable, focused, and dedicated. His track record absolutely agrees with you. Great video!

To me its actually disgusting that we even have to debate if Armada is the GOAT. The guy has dominated for years, yet Mang0 gets hyped for going through losers brackets and him losing to far worse players is just seen as tHE mAnG0.
a very good quick story of who he was, thank you
Glad you liked it! Thank you 😄
The only reason why I considered Mang0 to be the goat was how long he's been playing and the fact that he still competes at the top level. Though, that win:loss ratio of Armada at the end of the video really has me rethinking my opinion...
Also Hbox is objectively the most accomplished player with like 12 more major wins then both armada and mango. Hbox also has the most 1st yearly rankings.
Mango has not been ranked 1st since 2014 and has no real stats overr either of them.

i NEED to know the song playing at 0:52. I love this video series its so much fun and cozy
I think it's hard to overstate the disadvantage of having to travel to the US from Sweden in order to compete. The fact that he did all that while also being very young is an accomplishment in itself. For me Armada is the GOAT with Mango being very close second. Armada completely warped the scene around him, and if you were not a god you might as well have skipped showing up to compete. You can't say that about any other player in history.
The argument is essentially coming down to peak vs longevity. Personally I lean toward Mang0 at this point. Hbox is 3, 1 and 2 are the tough ones.
No one ever four stocked his peach. And no one ever will
That’s actually fucking crazy. What a stat
Love the melee content, keep it up 👍🏼
Thank you so much! Really appreciate it 😄
The fact that Mang0 couldn't overcome Armada is a sticking point for me in ever calling Mang0 the GOAT. Mang0 and Armada could not have different legacies. Armada's short, successful legacy simply outshines Mang0s longer, duller one. Mang0 hasn't even been first since Armada took it from him. And Hbox, the one who overthrew Armada, was #1 for three in a row before covid took his chance at sealing GOAT status for himself.
So it'll be Armada as the GOAT for a long time. Too bad Mang0 couldn't translate his Slippi wins into Melee wins last year.
As someone who only truly got into the scene after the explosion of content right after he retired, it's impossible for me to say who really is the greatest. Mang0's git my heart, but Armada has the stats. Wish i could see him play with today's competition.
Armada was so dominant it was boring and Mango was a 20/80 WR against Armada whenever they played against each other. Mango choked most of the time or went sicko mode in a rare occurence.
God I’d love to see armada give the comp a shot today! Would be so dope to see
Hbox is objectively the most accomplished player with like 12 more major wins then both armada and mango. Hbox also has the most 1st yearly rankings.
For me there are three of the GODS who can stand a really solid case to be considered the goat: Mang0, Armada and Hbox.
Like I've always said, there aren't really a consistent criteria to define objectively who of the three is the undisputed Goat and you can't be mad at nobody for choosing between the three, or really for choosing any player who they feel like is his goat.
Having said that, what ultimately favored mang0 in this specific topic are two things, 1st: the majority consensus of the melee fandom, and 2nd: the majority consensus of the "experts" who makes the ranks, like PGstats for example. And as a mang0 fan it just happened to fit our agenda. 😂
Having said that, Armada was truly amazing as a player and I hope he returns one day. The GOD Era will always have an special place in my memories.
The GOAT argument is always skubtastic. Like Armada has by far the conistency, stats, and dominance. But at the same time Hbox is objectively the most accomplished player with like 12 more major wins then both armada and mango. Hbox also has the most 1st yearly rankings.

again the GOAT debate is so stupid.
So basically, Mang0 got the GOAT title because he's the more popular player.

Fun watch, cheers! Solid production value. Shame some of the footage is quite grainy. But hey, something is better than nothing
What I, and without a doubt many other viewers, would appreciate is listing the soundtrack used in credits/description, and if possible, origins of footage.
But the soundtrack in the minimum, because trying to find instrumental song names is always real nuisance.
Absolutely! I try to do my best on stuff like that but sometimes slips the mind. I’ll try to be better on it 😄

He was better than mango the whole time they played.
Oooooo idk about that one!
Went from esports like head to head legendary player, to a speedrunner and in a different game, probrably, makes him 1 of best players ever,
That's crazy that his grandparents lended him $1k to go play in a tournament across the world. I'm assuming he came with friends and not his parents. Couldn't convince my parents, maybe it's cuz my mom's asian idk. But then I found MLG had melee too after my teammate and grade school friend pointed it out and been watching ever since. Sometimes I still wonder what career I could've had if I went. Probably wouldn't be Ogre 1 or Ogre 2, but could I have been a streamer or youtuber? Who knows. Don't say "just". Engineers might not get glory and fame, but they are absolutely needed and

@@tappajaav Yea don't get me wrong I'm happy to be a contributing member of society and a respectable career, just every now and then I start thinking about "what if". It's one of those rare instances where I could've been at the forefront of something big. Might not be the number 1 player in the world but easily could've transitioned into coaching/streaming/etc. Of course there's also a chance I could've just been a statistic of people that didn't make it and didn't do anything with their lives.
@@brimmed I get your thinking.
Missed opportunities really can come back and bite you when you let your thoughts wander.

Hell yeah
i fffuckignnnft love adam armada lindgren
Dude is so sick
This content quality is so good wtf
Glad you like it! Appreciate it dawg 😄
Just watching history videos is great because it helps out a lot
Great video. I kinda wish you mentioned Game 4 of Armada & Android vs Leffen & Ice at Apex 2015, amazing composure. otherwise amazing video.
Thank you so much! There was sooooo much of Armada and how good he was. Like how he went down 0-2 vs s2j at genesis and brought it back and keeping his composure etc. he’s such a competitor
@@JeramiJoseph You could've always made the vid bit longer ^^
@@tappajaav I’ll be sure to make some longer ones. Got a big one planned for the future 👍🏻
Armada is probably BOAT (Best Of All Time), but not the GOAT (Greatest Of All Time), simply because his main two rivals are still plying the game and have achieved a lot since he retired.
Yeah I totally get this! The boat is such a great tag for him lol. Also well since boats float like his peach!
Armada is the GOAT. Only Mang0 fanboys will say otherwise.
Armada has a super solid case, but longevity goes a long way!
With FREAKING Peach! Insane.
Dude was a monster
11:45 this is inaccurate since plup was ranked top 6 in both 2016 and 2017
It’s meant the top 6 as in the gods and leffen

Nice
Pretty insane!

I’m glad someone got it!! 😂 only you and one of my homies laughed at it lol. Gotta include the oldschool lore
team ugs placed 2nd in doubles at apex 2015 behind mew2box
ngl i thought they won until a couple weeks ago too
Oh shit. I’ll def have to check that out! Thanks!
okay but how will this affect armada's legacy?
Nothing can touch his legacy. Period. Dude was a monster
@@JeramiJoseph nope I would've wrekt armada but he quit cause he was a baby so his legacy is garbage

Armada has probably the best record of all time along with Ken. Mango and Hbox has just all good records within their time of reign 2008-2010, 13-14, and 17-19. That said, I think Armada will always be a contender of GOAT due to his legacy. I think him and Mango are the only true contenders. I lean Mango at #1 due to his longevity. The reason Hbox is still a hard #3 is because he didn't have two reigns. Armada and Mango are the only ones to be ranked #1 for multiple eras.
it's funny you say that but Hbox has the most years ranked 1st and way, way more major wins then both Mango and Armada.
even Mango "longevity" over Hbox barely exist with him being a ranked player two year before Hbox and a top player only 1 year before Hbox was a top player.
I agree with this so hard. Can’t say it better myself. But hbox is still in the mix! Not only on the sticks but adding to melee and the scene as a whole. Hgoat baby
@@AL-lh2ht Hbox is sick. But he doesn't have the most #1s years ranked. Unless you count only since melee stats/PG's rankings of since 2013. Are you ignoring Ken, Armada, and Mango's dominance before hand? Hbox not being a top player while Mango was, doesn't take away from Hbox but it does add to Mango's. It's the same way how Hbox/Mango playing now adds to their legacy while it doesn't take away from Armada's. You're right about Hbox's super impressive major wins, he ranks 1st there, but in terms of super majors he is still a bit behind. Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike Hbox, he's the goat in his own right for doing lots of things but he's still a bit behind Mango and maybe even Armada.
@@JeramiJoseph agreed! ^^
@@junkmail9299 Not according to retro rankings. it's historical revisionism to pretend Hbox not had any dominance pre 2013. Though even counting pre 2013 is super sketch by itself. The sport massivily expanded in 2013, hell there are years the sport was almost dead pre 2013. but even when counted your still wrong, and it should not even be counted in the first place.
The reason mango has the most super major wins is because for some reasn half of majors pre 2013 counted as super majors. plus thee diffeence between a super major and major is so sketch by itself a real bad metric to follow because because so many individual tournaments can be argued over the title.
He will forever be the BOAT
Such a good title for him 😂
As a mango and ppmd fanboi i feel like i can never give armada the goat credit he deserves due to bias lol
Ahh you good. Just know he’s up there 😂
i feel like PPMD had the most potential
Mango had the best instinc
Hbox had the best perseverence/will to win
but all of them had issue,
and Armada was flawless, that's why he's the god above the god
He definitely has Goat status but there's one reason why he can be objectively the goat, it's called 'eSport'.
Young Leff at 5:04
That’s what everyone came for!
Armada will always be better than Hungrybox and Mango.
is this series inspired by that pokémon channel falseswipe
The GOAT. And the debate is not even close.
It broke my heart to see him lose to Leffen in GF at the very last Evo to feature Melee. He seemed out of form and it almost seemed like he let Leffen win because he felt like Leffen needed it. Is that even possible. Would Armada actually let Leffen win Evo? Also, I had a feeling he retired because he was salty about having to fight Puff. Thoughts?
whos the guy with the blurred face in the red shirt from a photo in 2009?

I actually didn’t know this! I just saw today that someone commented the same. I’ve never heard that until now! Thank you for pointing it out 😄
Did you say un-anonymously instead of unanimously at 9:00?
Yup! I definitely messed that one up 😂
A lot of people will say Mang0 is the GOAT because of how long he's been doing it and his impact, but for me Armada's the GOAT. His H2H's, crazy streak of only losing to the gods and leffen for so long, and never placing below 5th speak volumes. His career is smth of legends. Super happy I got to watch it all unfold in real time. Smash was sweet back then in that 2014 post doc world. Good times
me being out of following melee for years and seeing videos discussing Armada’s legacy as anything but the best player ever makes me feel like an old school football fan who still thinks Joe Montana is GOAT. this dude was pretty much the reason I played peach!
So awesome he inspired you to play peach!
Armada's dominance pushed the other gods to the top in order for them to have even had a chance against him.
I don’t think mangos past him yet. Armada is still the current goat
Definitely the best. And as much as people root for underdogs it was fun to watch him dominate.
i dont think melee has evolved since armada left, except in regards to certain players like zain/cody/ llod learning how to attack while being hit. no one is as disciplined as armada is and i don't think any non-god player could beat him, even though those players are beating less motivated gods now. players now are winning due to tech skill aggressiveness, which is something he ate up his entire career
zain has the gumption to try things that would throw armada off, like what mango had to do, but everyone else would just rush into his wall traps and get punished for it.
In terms of peak melee, Armada hasn't evolved since his retirement, but the game has and the skill ceiling is so much higher than before. You can make the argument that during his time, he was the best, but I'm not sure if he could beat people like moky or Magi in today's game, let alone Cody, mango, or Zain
I’d love to see it. And even theorizing it is always a fun thought since he won’t come back to competing
If hungry box is capable of keeping up with the meta armada should be capable as well if he wanted
Why couldn't he? If he improved at pace equal or greater than the competition for so many years, to consistently place in the very top,
what would prevent him from doing it again?
My take on if Armada had it in him to compete again:
Vs. Zain: 65:35
Vs. Cody: 90:10
Vs. Jmook: 95:5
Vs. Mango: 70:30
Vs. Hbox: 80:20
Vs. Amsa: 100:0
vs. Leffen: 65:35
Vs. Everyone else: 100:0
Basically, he would still mostly win and would have a winning record against everyone. There are just new players that could beat him now.
Damnnnn that’s a bold statement! I’d love to see it, but def would take him a little while to settle in. The meta has evolved so much
@@JeramiJosephHaha yeah, I just feel like Armada is/was capable of just as much growth as Mango, and Mango still does just fine when he has the motivation. Agreed that it would take him some time to de-rust.
For me the main thing is that many of the old school players (eg Armada, Mango, etc.) were never at the top because their tech skill or meta knowledge was better than their opponent. I think it was more a mix of natural talent, confidence/clutchness/, decision-making, adaptation, and other less tangible factors. All relatively timeless attributes. I think it’s the same reason (in reverse) we’ve seen some extremely technical grindy players that struggled to win.
I think the game/meta was far enough along during Armada’s dominance that he’s shown he could be a top (if not the top) melee player no matter the era.
Doesn’t his nickname come from his PM Pit performance? Don’t let PM be forgotten!
A few other people mentioned this as well and I had no idea! I actually didn’t know this until yesterday and those comments. Thank you for telling me!
