  • In 1946, former Prime Minister Winston Churchill accepted an invitation from President Harry S. Truman to speak at Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri. During this visit, Churchill delivered his famous “Sinews of Peace” speech where he declared an "iron curtain" had descended across Europe. A moment that, in many ways, was the beginning of the Cold War era, which would dominate world affairs for more than four decades. His visit was later commemorated by reconstructing a British church that had been bombed in the Blitz on the campus of Westminster College. Underneath the church is America’s National Churchill Museum, which brings to life the legacy of Winston Churchill and Fulton’s place in world history.
