I actually worked on smiling friends and had a brief and unfortunate run in with Mr. Hadel. He forced me up against a wall and rummaged through my pockets before pulling out all my pocket lint and change saying “tsk tsk tsk, no outside food and drink” and proceeded to inhale the contents of my pocket.

Different kinds of animation coming together and somehow not feeling inconsistent with the world, insane if not straight up nonsensical situations, comedy on point, it's got it all.

I always compared Gumball to FamilyGuy or Dr. Slump before this.
Its the heir to the throne of old Williams street shows like Space Ghost coast to coast and Aqua Teen Hunger Force.
I mean it’s a lot more grounded within realism which is why the conversations seems a lot more what you would encounter in everyday talk compared to what gumball had. It has its moments but nothing like how Smiling Friends does it.
It really is apparent that Adult Swim has given them a higher budget for animation and I couldn’t be happier
Good to know that adult swim values their cartoons and sees their potential (smiling friends is honestly a cash cow), unlike shitflix that cancels their popular shows (inside job) or shittazon prime that delays their release schedules to oblivion for no apparent reason (like invincible)
Hopefully I'm not misremembering, but Zach did say from one of his panels talking bout S2 that they have the exact same budget for S2 as for S1. So the fact that the animations looks smoother in some parts even with the same budget just shows the level of talent and creativity from the team working on it.
You forget that this is a collaberative project. Alot of guest animators are heavily featured in the show. Zach and Micheal are the main stpryboard and writers but alot of the mixed media is from other people. We can definitely see Joel Haver is one of this next seasons guests.
@@RealValkorInvincible had a reason, they wanted to up the production value, and that takes a lot of time, especially considering everything they had to make. Netflix has no excuse though.

Honestly what makes Smiling friends so special is how it showcases so much UA-cam born talent. Lovely seeing these small creators get their moments on the screen
Zach and Michael have always been very supportive of people getting creative with animation styles, so I’m glad their guest stars are essentially people that are known for that. Very excited Joel Haver is in that group.

I like that they are leaning into the variety of animation styles. I honestly didnt think much of it while watching, but the sheer variety in Season 1 made the show funnier and more exciting.
And its all done so well. The animation in each scene actually enhances the comedy, it's not just sitcom animation.
That's part of why Amazing world of gumball was one of my favorite cartoons growing up

And cool part is. some of those animation styles are because of the other newground/youtuber animators they bring on to the show.
you can definitely tell it's higher budget & the fact I can't tell how many clips were made for the season & how many were for the trailer shows how crazy this show is (you cannot expect me to believe the writers aren't on some sort of drug) it also looks like it's gonna be longer than 8 episodes, nice

This show is so awesome because there’s literally no other show like this, with this type of energy in the adult animated category. Got so overran with bs that this is literally THE show to watch for that specific category. This is like TAWOG for adults, it’s amazing and literally exactly what we needed to break the mold
