I am a PhD student and have been looking for a good way to organise and save research articles and highlights in a simple way with minimal hassle. This is a super helpful video!
@@quatsch6910 True. I use citation manager but it would be great to have something that can be more integrated with notion for other benefits such as more in depth notes on each article and pulling out highlights. I also like being able to use linked databases and tables to add different tags and be able to reorganise everything depending on my needs at the time. I know zotero offers some of these features but feel there is more that can be done in notion and it's pretty cool to see the different features notion offers that are helpful.
BEWARE of data security gaps and lack of archiving / backup. You can very easily use all your work if you don't back it up to your hard drive or other cloud. Look into it. You need a back up plan or may get a surprise one day. Security experts say don't use Notion for anything you don't want to lose - financial, health and work info, for example.
An absolute beaut this one, Thomas. THANKS so much for posting it! I've been using the Notion official web-clipper for a while, but this one is so much more versatile. The fact that it allows clips to be targeted to specific areas/resources in Notion allows for really easy research records - thanks again! Cheers, Jonny. 👍🏻👊🏻
Thank you for this video! Epic! I use the shortcut keys which you can set on your chrome extensions for both saving to Notion and clipping your highlights to your desired destination. The highlight shortcut also works globally. By the way, for a second brain set up I also recommend the chrome extension "Notion search assistant" because you cannot search directly into Notion through your omnibox, but you can do that through this extension to create a friction free search experience in Notion from your browser. Thanks again for creating Notion videos! I have ADHD and this kinds of setups helps me so much! Also thank you for introducing Notion to me.
Awesome video (high fiving with a Llama) !! A quick tip though: If you think some pages should go with 'all the content' and some pages with only highlights, you can make 2 froms for same place with 'all the content' ticked ☑ in one and not ticked in the other and give it name like 'Notes Inbox [with content]' & 'Notes Inbox' respectively!
I ran into the same problem when I first selected the wrong page and then changed it. It would only send to the original page selected. Fix was to delete the form and start over, now it works.
Just a suggestion to the community, I didn't understand why you named as Sub Seed haha For me would make more sense to name it "Main Task?" and "Main Task Name". But your channel rocks man!!
It's a lot more capable - you can do individual highlights, but it also lets you set up multiple "forms" that have different destination databases, settings, etc. Also, not mentioned in the video - there's an experimental feature you can turn on that can scrape specific CSS classes, such as "author". It's advanced, so I didn't cover it here - but it's quite powerful. I cover all the differences at 10:10 🙂
I love this!! Just finished setting it up! If I wanted to add a section for "Accounts" under the "Work" area how would I go about doing that? I want to be able to see the accounts I work with, and the tasks/notes associated with those accounts. How could I add a "Contacts" database for just the "work accounts"?
question: at 8:42 his clip went directly to "Web Clips', when I tried mine it just went directly to the bottom of the page and not under Web Clips. Anyone knows how?
Thank you, Thomas, for this Video! I notice that the highlight feature for Save to Notion is disabled for articles that require Login information. Is there a way to enable that highlight features for say Skillshare resources?
Right now, not really - you can use the default saving action Notion creates, or you can use Readwise (though that costs money). Perhaps in the future :)
Thank you very much for this video. I have one question regarding highlight. After saving the page to "Note Inbox" if i highlight a information then it automatically saves to that page, which is cool but, how do i bring all those highlighted information to one page? For example if i am researching on a topic where i want to highlight several pages but i want all the highlights to be in one page to look like a report. How would i do that? Would be great if i can do this. Thanks you for reading.
Is there anything that can save pdfs (academic journal articles, etc.) to Notion, similar to citation management software (like Zotero, EndNote, etc.)?
This should work to save a link to where the PDF is hosted already, but I don't believe the Notion API currently allows for directly uploading the PDF and saving it in your Notion workspace itself. If they add that feature, I'll definitely make content about it!
@@ThomasFrankExplains I've been trying to use the highlight feature with an online PDF from NASA, but it keeps throwing an error that no Notion page can be found even though I have already clipped the full page using the pop-up. Trying to determine whether the fact that this is an online pdf vs. a website is causing the error. If there is a workaround or if this might be an additional limitation of the clipper. www.nasa.gov/sites/default/files/atoms/files/iss_benefits_for_humanity_2022_book.pdf Regular web text is working fine.
Thank you for the insights! Do you have any tips on how to search in notion properly? For example, if I clip a full article and try to search for specific text in it, it often doesn't work. This seems like a major drawback and I'm wondering if there's a workaround I should know about so I can find everything I need to in the second brain I'm building!
hi, this was great, i have a question: can you use tags in paragraphs? i make a lot of notes that each paragraph might refer to 3 categories for my project and i need to find them fasts. but # doesnt work in notion. any solutions?
Pretty sure you can already do that! I already do one-way sync from Todoist to Notion, which lets me gets tasks into Notion via Siri voice commands. I use Make.com to run it. I haven't made a tutorial on it yet (soon), but here's another video that shows me connecting Notion to Make: ua-cam.com/video/gHVTJWIB2No/v-deo.html
Hey Thomas, I am facing a issue with this extentsion. I am unable to see any databases in my main notion account while I can in the others which I do not use that often. Please suggest a solution. PS: I tried login in other accounts, and now it's working for none of them.
I add this extension to Chrome, but it can't find any of my databases except some Blog databases in the Blog Template which I duplicate from another. I only use one personal plan free account, I've tried logging out and logging in, but it still can't load the database. Does anyone know to fix this issue? plz, help me out. Thank you.
Save to page works great, I'm working on a Mac and Chrome as web browser, "Add highlight" does not work, and i suppose it changed the way it used to work, in my case every time y highlight any text a popup shows asking me to select the destination, if i select my database the selected text is not showed and just an "undefined" text shows, if I select a page not a data base it only shows a bullet list that is empty. So is not useful for me.
Installed it but I get "Save To Notion cannot be used on the Chrome Store or your local filesystem, please try on a different page" error. Anyone can help?

Right now, it's either Readwise or Notion's official share/capture button - neither of which are as powerful. But keep your eyes peeled; I'm working on some stuff behind the scenes 😉

Since readwise reader came out I can't seem to find the way to sync readwise to notion. Have you overcome this challenge yet?

Search should find anything clipped into a page, so it may just be an issue of indexing speed if you're searching right after clipping.
Did you find a way to import PDF highlights to Notion?
Currently I think Readwise is the best (possibly only) way to do that!
is there anyway to get a basic second brain tutorial...the ones ive seen are way too advanced for my liking
This tool no longer seems to work ... has anyone found a fix for the latest version?
Hi Thomas, how can i link my Notion to Hypothesis? I have no clue... Thank you!
Only through Readwise currently.
Keep your eyes peeled though; my team and I are working on something in this space :)

It's been a year, does the template feature work yet?
I'm not sure, but I also haven't checked in a while.
Oh Thomas, please comeback to your main channel and make general personal growth and development.
Seems like this extension doesn't works. The higlights are saved as new pages ;/ What do you use instead of this one?
How can we clip like Save to Notion on iOS?
Right now, you have to do it through the stock Notion option that comes up when you click the share button on a page.

Sounds like a pretty nice extension, too bad it's only available for Chrome.

There are extensions allowing you to install chrome add-ons on other browsers.
