I really like the models and I can see some usefulness in the raiders, but I fail to see what they really change for the ad mech. Arquebus can snipe 72 inches at S7, Dd3 in a ranger squads, less shots, but each one does more damage. Vanguard can sit slightly further back and throw out 3 shots each at S3 each which I feel could remove infantry more cheaply. Ad mech are not meant to be in melee either, they are far more shooty than stabby.
As far as i read on reddit the French version has a phosphor carbine cost of 0 and heavy phosphor blaster 14 points so it might be a mix up between them
Nice video man! But im disappointed with this crazy price. If u build serveris raiders for that amount, you get less pts in table than euros u have spent :( hateful. a few shameless.
In a Meta where the space marines codex provides unlimited 30" bolter fire, a 12" range shooting unit that is T3 with a 4+ save is non-viable. Maybe you get the Sulphur dogs in range for one volley, but they are 100% dead when your opponent gets his turn. They scream free kill points. The Ranger-dogs on the other hand seem quite good thanks to that move-when-charged strategem which potentially wins you the game with an objective steal. And that pre-game move is dominating. What a trick. Their firepower is trash and their combat is bad, but they are movement models not damage models.
Also, the Phosphor Carbine being 15 points is 100% a misprint. The Heavy Phosphor Blaster has been 15 points for years (see, Dakkabots). That carbine is going to be 0 points next week. But even then the Sulphur dogs are bad. They won't get in range before they are dead.
I think you're saying that the Raiders do 9 sniper shots at 18'' when in a full unit - but the Galvanic Carbines are actually Assault 2, so even - a lot - better, no?
I don’t know I don’t think they really add much to an ad mech force. Past the hype of the new, they are fragile and expensive to buy for a min squad. You’d be better served getting the transport if you don’t already have them. I like the ranger versions but they are just gimmick units and won’t see a lot of use as they are fragile and you need a very specific list to make them shine. Which would be an ad mech list with heavy emphasis on CC. Otherwise they aren’t very exciting and suffer the same kind of issues rust stalker/infiltrators. They can do something but is it worth the effort ? Probably not. Even guard las rifles will eat them up and that is a problem for them.
I disagree, i played them today fot the first time (the Vanguard variant) and they were super effective against my necrons opponent. 3 of them managed to kill around 25 Necrons Warriors and 2 even came out alive at the end, they really are infantry killers.
I see unfortunately that both units have a bad matchup vs marines, Bolt rifles hurt them, they can't bully them in melee and their characters are tough to deal with unless a maxed unit shoots them (even then its iffy). They have far better matchups against xenos or baseline human armies though, Orks, Guard, Eldar and Tau, even Tyranids are great targets for these. Tying up artillery, sniping squishy characters, denying charges... good units, but not great for the meta right now. Pteraxii Sterilyzors though work great against marines and xenos alike, so I feel they outshine them.
@James Espinosa True there is potential. I agree with you, the only thing is though the new rad trait replaces the old, it doesn't stack. So SM are t3 still. It's also worded as "enemy models" instead of units, so that's bad. The AP on RadCarbines I'm a fan of! That one I like!
I think the sulphurhounds are too fragile and too short ranged for their point cost tbh, i doubt they'll see competitive play. The raiders on the other hand are cheaper and good at sniping, so might see play in min sized squads
While I agree that they are quite fragile you can get them really close to the enemy and the Aura alone will really really hurt (especially due to the FW trait that makes the aura effect vehicles as well) I would propably play 3 of them with an engineseer(or manipulus for greater reach) just for a detachment of debuffing the enemy. Tough the effectivness depends on the rest of your army aka what S do you have on your guns etc etc.... but I think that a mars Detachment with robots and the new Canticle can do some serious Work... example: You wanna kill a Leman Russ battleline what can you currently do against them that wounds on 4+ or better? ->Plasma, Lascannons, Neutron Laser etc etc... but mostly High Dmg single shoot stuff while this combi would give the Robots so much more potential.
Yes, and this is probably the reason to run these. If the enemy charges your gunline they either have a decent counter charge, or if they do get charged they'll fall back, form a line and screen for your gunline. The drawback is of course that this makes them a prime target for bolters, and they will die to bolters.

I love the fact that phosphor is a despicable weapon even by 40k standards
Well I suppose because it's almost as devastating as the life eater virus which is also considered disgusting due to it's effects, even in 40k.
I mean, white phosphorus napalm does sound fucking TERRIFYING

What a mechanicus thing to do.

The funny thing is that these will outperform their points' worth in Reivers
That doesn't take much, revivers aren't good units.

True, they are not well versed for a marine meta. Sterylizors would be superior.
I want these guys so bad... But $60 for 3 17 point models.
Was excited until I realized the alpha cant carry the same weapons as the rank and file. That's so stupid.

serberys sulphurhounds dissapeared from games workshop page
I don't like the fact they have nothing really to choose from regarding options really.
The fact that you only get 3 in a box and they cost $100 AUD is seriously making me consider dropping 40k
I'll admit I wasn't impressed when I found out it was 3 for £35. Definitely a luxury buy :P
That's insane mark up. £35 is about 65AUD. Why 100?
