Great review! These Chinese pens seem to be getting better and better. I've been very happy with all of mine. I mainly have Jinhao x450, x750, 159 models, but just started receiving in my bunch of Jinhao 100 Centennial models I ordered in different colors. Now I'm going to have to get some of the Kaigelu pens! They are gorgeous too! To me, these Chinese makers are really starting to rival way more expensive pens. It's great having these lovely pens and not have to break the bank!
Nice presentation with the wheel and pen data. I have 3 of the older Kaigelu pens and a 356. There's nothing wrong with the new model but I prefer the extra heft of the older pens.
I can see that, some do prefer heft in the writing experience.
Cannot wait for the Caran D'Ache review! I have wanted one of those but, they get mixed reviews. Maybe your honest opinion James will help me make my mind up. Great job again James 🙏❤️
Thanks. I should have that one out this week.
That’s the medium nib? Nice because I just ordered this in a fine nib and was worried it might be too broad for me, being a Chinese fine. Seeing the medium makes me feel good about my purchase again :)
Good job as usual. I too love this fountain pen. As I recall, I probably did not wait on the “M” nib. Anyway, it was helpful to see your review of the Medium nib. I will also check out your review of the flex nib option.
Yeah, I need to get one of these updated 316a pens to go with my original Kaigelu 316! I just need to try to decide what color to get! They're all so gorgeous!
I now have three 316s but I didn't know there was an A version. I'll have to check that out. I actually like a heavier pen which is one reason I enjoy the 316. I'm a habitual poster and the original gets very back-heavy on posting, so maybe the new one will be a better feel for me. I'd be a little concerned over thinner material as it may give me a worry over being brittle, particularly where it's thinned out for threading. One thing I like about the original 316 is it feels like I could use it to hammer in nails with the barrel. The 316A? Maybe not so much. The Jinhao Centennial has that thinned-out feeling for me and its lack of heft means I reach for the 316 far more often.
Oh great! Now I want one! :D Great review, thank you so much Mr. James.
Cool looking pen.
Hi James! Perhaps improved Kaigelu nibs, but you should know that they are problematic nibs: even in your writing test there are false starts and jumps ... I also tried the hand-ground Kaigelu nib and at the moment it seems to me below expectations. Thanks for your review!
You and I often wind up with the same pens. I have the darker blue 316A. However, I own a Picasso 975
and the resin looks like the Sky Blue 316A (Picasso--called the Aurora Sky Blue). Nice writing experience.
Have (8) 316/316A's in my collection
I think that's the Picasso that has caught my eye a few times, but I don't actually have a Picasso, yet.
@@JG3Reviews : My two favorite Picasso pens are the Picasso 933 Avignon, and the
Picasso 915 (red). The 933's nib is buttery smooth. Love the beautiful engraving on
the 915's nib. Engraved--dove with a leaf in its mouth. Unique!! I had recommended
the Avignon to several on FPN. One gentleman who purchased it also spoke of its
buttery smooth nib. Some might say I was just lucky. A couple of them did require
just a bit of micromesh, however, I have not been disappointed with any of the 7
Picasso pens I have in my collection,.
Ι have 3 Kaigelu,2 of them with F nibs which are more medium -fine than F.Excellent quality lens.
Just got another the other day. Just as impressive as the others.
Stay healthy and get well soon
Thanks!
Thanks for this review! Can you recommend any nib grinders and pen repair specialists? Everything from ink sac replacement on vintage pens to nib grinding. Years ago I had a guy who was great, but after the intervening years while I was away from fountain pens he is no longer available.
Thank you for the review. Your videos are great! Do you think a Jowo nib would be a big improvement on this pen?
Thanks! I'm a fan of Jowo #6 nibs, so I can sure see the appeal. If going from F to F or M to M, it would mainly be differences of personal preference. Jowo's stubs are something not available in the Kaigelu, and that would be cool upgrade. The Kaigelu could be a good candidate fro a Broad nib, too.
Hi James. Great review. Was this ordered from Office Products? What was the delivery time from order?
I bought it on Etsy from esybuy on 9/24 and it was here 10/20.
Does it have starting issues? Dry start? How long can it be unused and still write good?
Hi James, great review, compared to Jinhao 100, which one is better? thanks
Good question. Both are made week, both are comfortable wires with near identical ergonomics. It would probably down to material preferences (is given that edge to Kaigelu) and the nibs (I'm not sure just yet). I may do a side by side video since I also just got a 2nd Jinhao 100 in Galaxy blue. I haven't inked it up yet, though.
Hi, James, how are you? Happy Halloween! I loved this Kaigelu 316. Could you please tell me some safe places where I could buy some of them? Even on internet. When I say "safe places" I mean places (stores) which sell original Kaigely 316, with no chances of bying knock offs, replicas, fakes etc... Thank you so much. I hope find you healthy, safe and happy. With my best regards...
Hi, I'm doing well. I bought mine on Etsy from esybuy. I've made several purchases there in the past without issue.
