in asia, we still have hot meal even for 1.5 hours international flight but mostly no dessert

in middle east air arabia, 7 hour flight they only give you 1 meal that YOU have to pay for. And its bland and tastes bad

Agreed, the first time I flew to Israel was a couple years back from JFK-TLV on their 744. If they were to have kept em longer they'd need some serious upgrading
I flew on their 747 from JFK... pretty dated, not very comfortable. But 787 also has questionable designs. Who the hell does two prong audio jack these days? Come on...

I don’t love El Al tbh. There on ground services are horrible and the same goes with their in flight services. Delays occur very often too. On almost all of my flights with them the service was just so so. I like airlines like Turkish a lot more

Being El Al, I presume there had been a security chat before even being able to approach the check-in desks? Would not have been allowed to film if so, but useful to know as tends to slow down check-in process a little.
Yes, I was at Barcelona and we had to stop before checking in.

@@BigPeretz They're going to check everybody. Nobody has written on their forehead if they're Jewish or not. If they allow for Jewish people to go through unchecked, than that creates a loophole for anyone that has harmful intentions.
El al is an awesome 👌 airline! I've flown recently Sept 2019 and Sept 2022. Both times they were superb and gave us white wine and red wine 🍷 for our honeymoon and my birthday!

Really glad to see this trip report! I'm actually doing this same journey in December except with BA on their A350. Would be great to see how they compare to El Al
I took an EL AL afternoon flight and it was much better then the flight Felix took

The cabin crew seem very friendly and the cabin looks very sleek and modern. Good job el al
This confuses me, I flew the exact same flight twice, once in 2018 and in 2019. On both flights i received a full hot meal service of meatballs with couscous, a salad, bread a drink, and a cake. Whilst it wasn’t Michelin star, it definitely wasn’t the worst airplane meal I’ve had in my lifetime.🤨

Love el al. Their flight attendants are not rude and the food is good. Nothing else matters in economy. But it does get noisy but everyone seem to along and so it works.
This video is very good, very detailed and in high resolution. I think British Airways offers a better quality of service on this route and will therefore avoid El Al. Thanks for providing this video, it helps me make an informed decision which airline to fly with.
If the flights were priced the same, I think I'd have to go with El AL. I've watch too many accident investigation videos on UA-cam, and El AL's safety record is beyond outstanding. 0 fatalities (on commercial passenger flights) in over 50 years. The record is only marred by one flight in 1955 when the airplane was tragically shot down after strayed into Bulgararian air space. 58 soups were lost.
I have flown both ElAl and BA many times on this route, and ElAl is better. BA is a really disappointing airline.
Looking at direct flights from the uk and I’m torn between BA and El Al, there’s a huge difference in price even without using a iOS. ( out economy and return leg in business isn’t much more than EL Al premium economy)

4 years later i flew with el al this January and i was exactly at gate 3 and on this plane!
The food looks good. After all this flight left very late at 11 PM.
Serving a cold sandwich as a 'meal' on an evening flight of four hours is poor in my opinion.

their security team is no joke, I took nearly 2 hours only to clear the x-ray machine due to arab stamps on my passport.... lots of questioning.... hellish experience.

judging by the date on the screen at the gate , i conclude this was filmed around the holiday of passover ,in which there are additional and even more strict kosher laws than the rest of the year, which might explain the poor meal situation ...
I flew with them in the same row but on the retro liner. My meal both there abd back was chicken/Turkey meatballs with couscous, tomato sauce and green beans. Peppers with humous dip and chocolate sponge. That or fish. I would have preferred the meal you got. Was yours the glitter kosher option?

Love to visit Israel
El Al has a very poor reputation in Israel, most would rather fly on other airlines when going abroad, and this reputation still persists. Expensive tickets, crappy service, packed like sardines in economy, and scheduling problems. That said, recently I flew with El Al to Hong Kong on their Dreamliners and it was a good, quiet flight, decent food, and both landings were ahead of schedule. So I guess it depends on the route. Probably best to fly on their Dreamliners and avoid the 737 to closer destinations.
Oh and about the cost, it was one of the only 2 options I had for direct flights to HK, the other was Cathay Pacific for 1.5 times the cost of El Al.

Catering is sub standard. For a 4 hour 20 min flight: no hot meal!

In the US you'd be lucky to get more than a bag of pretzels for that long of a flight. That sandwich actually looks pretty good, by the standards of airplane sandwiches.

In European flight most airlines have paid catering. Its cheap and taste amazing. Like LOT polish or Finnair. El al have nice sandwich
I know how cheap and stingy American and European carriers are from first-hand experience, as I live in America, duh. But, that doesn't mean I don't criticize them, especially when I compare them to Asian airlines and their exceptional service.

I flew them six months ago on a long haul from LAX to TLV, and then back to SFO. Great service and food was good.
as you would expect on a 15 hour flight. You can't compare this with the LHR-TLV service, at 4:30 and overnight.

Agreed. And that was WELL before the 787-9; I used to fly the old El Al 747's and the flights and service were just fine. I like the look of the 787-9, and hope to someday take a flight on it.
So I took a ELAL flight from Tel Aviv to Miami and back with the 787 and I love the Airline but if you are not Jewish they will ask you a lot of questions

Cold meal could have been because of a lack of a large enough kosher kitchen, or because of the late departure, and el al thinking most passengers would rather sleep than eat

At that time of the night, why would you request a full hot meal? Most people would like to get some shut eye at those kinds of hour.
I think it's still the norm and expected though. I recently flew long-haul to Taiwan and my flight left at 2:00 AM. To my surprise at 3:00 AM they came around with a full hot dinner!

@@alanm3440 I suppose it's intended to shift your body clock to the Taipei Local time due to the significant time difference between the two destinations, compared to the flight in the featured video as there isn't too much of a time discrepancy between London and Tel Aviv.
0300 in the Pacific Time would be 1800 in the Chinese Time (Taiwan, HK, Macao, Mainland China, Malaysia and Singapore all fall on the same time zone)

Terrific airline, great pilots and excellent cabin crew. But I agree that a hot meal was needed. Sandwiches should be for secondary meals, not the main ones on a flight from the UK to Israel. I’ve always loved the approaches to the Israeli coast over the Mediterranean. The airport is very close to Tel Aviv so once you’re over the city, the landing is just moments away. Thanks for flying El-Al!

No airlines did the last one sadly. They may give you playing cards or coloring books for free though but only upon request or if you bring a toddler with you. Garuda Indonesia at one time once gave you a toy car to any kid younger than 12 years old before landing but that was long time ago
I'm not sure about taking pictures with El Al crews as all of them are reservists of the IDF and with current situation in Israel, it's possible for El Al to not allowed it due to privacy reasons. But I don't know, never asked for one
