Don’t feel bad, they do the same to me! The only logical explanation I have for the windows is that the Dubai desert sun probably uses more power for air-conditioning, so maybe they were trying to reduce power consumption. Considering the very hostile environment El Al is operating in I fully understand their very strict security measures even though it also affects people with no bad intentions. If more Muslim countries followed Bahrain's and the UAE's example things might slowly improve but the extreme misinformation and hatred that most Muslim countries taught their people over decades and still do makes me doubt that El Al can ever let down its guard

I liked the look of the Salmon they gave you but the canned meal meh lol ;( The clear view of the clouds on your landing decent/approach was awesome! Thanks again! I love the Boeing 787, it is one of my favorite aircraft. What I cannot stand is when the crew blocks the windows controls, for me I see that as a disrespect.
No matter what the service is like, if the crew can control my window view then I'm not interested in giving them my business. The crew can fly all year but for some customers this could be a rare experience and they should be able to see out, especially if they selected a window seat for that very purpose!
BR Trip Report, based on what I have heard about Israelis (extremely rude, arrogant, over-bearing, and aggressive), the fact that they did something as unpleasant and "disrespectful" as dimming the windows and IMPOSING their will on the passengers seems in keeping with the national character. The negative opinions which I have heard about Israelis seem also to be partially corroborated by the remark made by the maker of this video about not expecting any finesse or smiles when one flies with EL AL. Therefore, I am not surprised by the lack of finesse exhibited by the cabin crew in dimming the windows regardless of whether the passengers wanted it or not.
There were smiles and kindness. But not in the service oriented way like in the Gulf airlines. A different personality. And the window dimming I’ve had on other airlines to from everywhere, even Etihad/United and more. Just not for take off.
It surprises me that there was no armoured vehicle on the tarmac protecting the El Al flight as this is customary practice at many airports around the world whenever an El Al jet lands and is stationed there thank you very much and enjoy your evening 🤗🤗
This is not really done anymore, I haven’t seen it in a long time. I used to see it in Germany but that was about it. There is armed officers at some airports in front of the gate, but at few places. Dubai is very safe!
Hey Bro! Thats a nice flight...food looks so tempting..m sure u had a good appetite....going thru the clouds felt like u r Flash Gordon in his Fireball XL5 space ship 😀😀.. Thnks again Alex......cheerios!!!
I learn so much from your videos! On the weekend I booked flights to visit family this summer. Extra layovers to tick a few airports off my list. And I’ll make sure to arrange for a later pick up at AMS by my brother so I can do some plane spotting! 😀✈️ count down is on! Thanks again
I’m glad you do Melissa! Im sure you’ll have a great spotting session in AMS. Where will you be traveling from/to? But it’s still a long time to the summer, I hope you get to fly again soon!
You yourself noted that it was a short runway, hence the hard landing. On a shorter runway, pilots focus much more on getting their plane within the touchdown zone at a safe stoping distance instead of landing smoothly.
Yes, Tel Aviv’s shortest but not that short.. I had a butter soft landing on the same landing with an EK B777-300ER. Many factors are involved, but I still will go for military airmanship out of my experience. It’s not my first time to experience. More fun though!
Fantastic stuff!!! The seats and the cabin look so chic and classy. As a flight safety procedure, window shades/dimmers need to be up/bright during the critical phases as it assists everyone to see the outside conditions and take necessary actions during emergency situations.
It’s an incredible seat indeed. And yes, I suspected so about the blinds/lights. Some airlines don’t care at all. But I’ve never seen it all forcefully dark on take off.. 😞 Thanks for writing and always adding some interesting info Neville!
I really appreciated your attention to detail in the review, and your explanation of kosher rules was very informative. I noticed that with your (meat) meal there was a dessert labelled (in Hebrew) "Nougat, Pistachio & Macaroon CREME BRULEE" - obviously a non-dairy version, given it was a meat meal. I don't know where else you'd find a non-dairy creme brulee lol! I also loved your explanation of the cities you could see as you flew over them in Saudi, Jordan and Israel. Tira, btw (at 24:25) is the hometown of famous Arab-Israeli author Sayed Kashua.
Would recommend you to please fly Dubai to Mangalore (IXE), India in Air India Express 🇮🇳 Mangalore has a tabletop airport and you get to witness one of the most beautiful landing!
They dont usually dimm the windows bcoz i travelled in the same flight a week ago so idk why they did it to you, could be bcoz they forgot or something else
As an Israeli, born and raised, but live in the USA now, thank you for visiting our great country. I am happy you can visit Israel, the Egyptian government doesn't allow it's citizens visit in Israel, at all. The opposite is okay. Go figure. Edit, Did you enjoy your trip to Israel in general?
I love visiting Israel, at the end of the day it’s a Mediterranean country like my own so it’s easy to feel at home. The only spine in my brain is to go through security on my way back, but ok, I’m a pro now 😎 Thanks for writing!
The Egyptian government doesn't prevent its citizens from visiting Israel. I don't know where you got that information from. Israel, however, still keeps Egypt on its list of "Enemy Countries", with a general exemption in place to allow Israelis to travel to Egypt. Same thing applies to Jordan. When an Egyptian wants to visit Israel, they need to go through a lengthy visa process and receive security clearance from the Shin Bet before their visa can be issued. Your government is the problem, not the Egyptian government.
Greater video!
There were meals that seemed bigger but I was tempted to try the Souvlaki and it was a good choice. I finished it all and was full. The flight attendant offered me a second meal but I had to refuse as I was very full.. I hope you get to try it!
Excellent review. Had an amazing experience when we flew to TLV last year, we didn't experience any of the intrusive security, if anything we were given the royal treatment and were virtually waved through at every opportunity. and we were just Premium economy on BA. Looking forward to coming home again as soon as we can. Hopefully in the autumn and it wil be ELAL as BA have dumped their club world service on the route and its now just an awful club europe product significantly more expensive than EL AL Business !
One of the better B787 cabins indeed Avishai, I loved it. Same seat as Qatar Airways’ B787-9 but I liked it better despite no door. And the livery is stunning. I remember that the old one made me scared as a little kid when I was spotting 😅 Yes, Arkia and Israir too! I think those are the only missing as I already filmed Flydubai. Thanks for watching!
Yeah I've heard someone else mentioning the windows are blacked out and locked by cabin crew. That's just wrong and I'll avoid flying @ELALairlines 787 in the future!
I refuse to fly on the B787 because the crew on most airlines control the window shading. I need to have control the of the blinds because the best IFE is on the other side of the window. The food looks like it was delivered by a takeaway restaurant. The captions on your videos are superb and informative. More airline vloggers should follow your example.
I don’t mind the shades on the B787. I mind crew blocking them. In many airlines they’re not allowed to do that. Yes, the food looks indeed like delivery but that’s ok sometimes. Simple food is sometimes the best. thanks for the nice comment and I hope you keep enjoying Tony. Something nice is coming out tomorrow😛
marcambouphaure, Yeah, right, a very LOGICAL conclusion! Because one of its planes is parked next to an El Al plane in Dubai Iran will stop its dream of wiping Israel off the map and out of existence and sign a peace treaty with the Zionist entity!
@@TheLayoverAviation You are not a very democratic vlogger and more than any other vlogger out there you have deleted many of my innocuous comments. Truly objective vloggers do NOT delete comments simply because they disagree with them. This is a medium where people post both good AND bad comments and you do not delete a comment just because it is not to your liking. I have gone back and looked at many negative (but INNOCUOUS) comments which I have posted with other vloggers (as well as many CRITICISMS of the vloggers THEMSELVES) and I have found them ALL there INTACT. If everybody posted nothing but lovey dovey and cutsie pie comments there would be no reason to have a comments section. I, for one, would be BORED TO DEATH. I had posted a rather negative (but very FACTUAL) comment here in response to the above comment and you have deleted it and I see absolutely NO justification for that. Compared to other vloggers you are the one who practices the most censorship and I find your action very childish and and rather "Idealistic". Keep the "controversial", but harmless, comments and let the chips fall where they may. By practicing this ridiculous censorship you are taking away a lot of the variety and different opinions and perspectives which make a comment section interesting. I have, obviously, not watched any more of your videos nor, of course, posted any more comments since doing so would be a farce. .
So all the 99.99% of flights it’s being done wrong? Nope, not the reason. Dimming the lights applies on. night flights, not daytime. If I would have to evacuate during the day and the cabin was dark I would be blinded by the sun at the door.
Wow,just wow!! Even a goldliner for you! Hahah...he didnt guess my card 😂😂...they dummed the great view How dare them😵!,but atleast they unlocked it for you, big plus! I would fly their old 772,cuz my views could be better than on Dreamliner...i would lkke to say my option on LY787, but i didnt fly with it yet... The lunch dont look good, but i think you loved it!...Woah! Trick or Treat 😍 Oh,i need to study more! I did not know that EL AL pilots used to be military pilots! Great video my friend, love it!😍
He didn’t guess it? it is so likely you’ll choose the card he wants you to choose. An easy trick. I’m also looking forward to fly the B777-200ER with RR engines, but it’s important to sit in front of them to hear the music!☝🏼 The lunch main course was one of the best I’ve had. Just simple good food and nothing fancy. Most of the El Al pilots were in the military, yes. Everyone in Israel has been to the military except for those excempted!
I was wondering if they had any other drinks besides the wines… I think I might have asked, that’s what I would do but can’t remember now😂. My father in law collects miniature alcohol so I’m sure I asked for something and the answer was likely no.
I think you flew over my house 🏠...lol. Seriously though, as an Israeli I am sad to see how El Al has really gone downhill in every way. If you want to be a budget airline, then charge accordingly. The past years I've had so many bad experiences....from 4 back to back last minute cancellations to Dubai, to overbooking. The last straw was outsourcing to a Czech budget airline in Georgia. Dirty plane. Nothing to drink. No security despite being an EL AL flight. I tore up my frequent Flyer card. Booked Virgin to the States.
I would have said hi if I knew, Susan! El Al faces an insanely lot of competition and high bills, not only security wise but also because of them grounding all of their planes during Shabbat. So the only way to bring costs down is by cutting a lot of costs. But Business Class on this short flight was very good, in my opinion. Sad to hear about your cancellations. I also faced 3 with El Al but due to security issues from my side, so I ended up missing my flights. I was talking yesterday about Virgin to a friend, I love them and will do my best to fly them again soon!!
Hi Alex want to say something to you hope you will read this. @@TheLayoverAviation It was a well made film, but i had a hard time with Tom Hans dutch accent. It sounded like the crazy one in the Austin Powers movie, gold member.😂
Don't take it personally , is probably because you travel to arab countries you get the extra security. I live in Israel (wasn't born here) and sometimes I get weird questions as well
Thanks for the info, I kind of suspected it amongst other reasons. It just gets extremely tiring. Specially when I start missing flights and losing my patience😂 All the best with future travels!
I find it hard to believe that security would question you for 8 hours. On every international flight i've been on you are required to arrive 2-3 hours before departure.
Thanks for the video. I live nearby a Jewish community and would love to visit Israel. I see El Al has a direct flight from my home airport. However, just like you, I've visited several Arabic countries in the past. I even had employment in the UAE once. I am not a Muslim and have never been. I wonder how long their security would hold me for questioning.
I think it’s a route that they’ve just started! I fly often to Japan and I wish I could take it, but it’s quite the detour for me.. More flights to Japan coming soon!
One reason not to fly El Al is this: flying economy I pre order kosher food. So I always get my food first, independent from where I sit. Think this doesn’t work at El Al. 😅
And I don’t think they serve any other special meals in order to keep it fully kosher. But I might be wrong. Otherwise just order a veggie meal Wouter! But smart move🤪
Whatever you wish in life you’ll get! El Al 100% sure has the best and freshest Kosher food in the world. Most other airlines just serve some frozen sealed box!
Did you have issues traveling the arab/muslim countries after this trip? Like a lot of them refuse entry, when you have an israeli stamp in your passport.
@@TheLayoverAviation I believe while both seats have similar features, both seats are different. El Al uses Recaro's CL6710, while the one Qatar's 787-9 uses is Adient's Ascent.
@@TheLayoverAviation My pleasure, and also thank you for the praise haha! These kind of seats (alongside the Zodiac Optima, mentioned by @Levi Ramsey) are very popular nowadays, as these seats have lower footprint than usual Business Class configurations, so airlines could cram more seats. Anyway, also thank you for the awesome flight report, and for reviewing exotic airlines like El Al! I believe I have not seen an El Al review on this particular route before CMIIW, so it is interesting to know that this route have a decent occupancy rate. Keep up the good work! 😄
I have never experienced locked windows on El Al's 787 out of LHR, CDG or EWR. It's your the one Purser you had. No clue why. Also, El Al has *15* 787s. 12x 787-9 and 3x 787-8. The final 787-8 is awaiting delivery. Additional 787s have been ordered in 2022 and will replace the 777s as well as some 737s since El Al requiers a higher capacity on European routes.
Thanks for the additional info! Yes, correct about the B787’s numbers but I was referring only to the -9’s. I was going to fly back on the -8 but missed my flight in security lines so I flew Emirates instead :) Too bad about the windows, hopefully it doesn’t happen again next time.

No matter what the service is like, if the crew can control my window view then I'm not interested in giving them my business. The crew can fly all year but for some customers this could be a rare experience and they should be able to see out, especially if they selected a window seat for that very purpose!
@@amazer747 quite a few 787 operators end up doing this.. so I end up avoiding it in favour of 350s / 777s
It takes the whole purpose of having windows away..
I would understand if it’s safety related, but I don’t think it is..
Sehr schönes Video muss ich sagen
Danke!! 🙏🏼
@@TheLayoverAviation Thank you very much for the update and good night 🇮🇱🇺🇲
@@TheLayoverAviationYea, it’s common practice in Germany to have APCs and federal police escorting the airplane

Thnks again Alex......cheerios!!!
Flash Gordon 😂
In my Israeli spaceship. Thanks for making me laugh Martin!
"I don't care, I deserve my wine" LOL!! 🤣😂😭
Thanks layover . Great as always
My pleasure Shlomo! Hope you enjoyed it!
Wonderful trip report mate!
Thanks Jelmer!!
These questions are actually fairly normal. I’m Israeli but we too get asked questions before we are allowed to go further.
Everyone is asked questions, but many others get properly checked over and over, like myself. I’m an expert by now😅
This is the first time elal dimming the windows.
As a frequent flyer this is never happened before
I’m glad to hear that. How unfortunate for me 😞
Thank you for your Trip Report n always making me Very Happy
I am grateful to you for always being here Donna!
Please read my reply
Thanks for writing and always adding some interesting info Neville!
Excellent video 😃
Thanks Julia!! I love your channel, just had a look.

Would recommend you to please fly Dubai to Mangalore (IXE), India in Air India Express 🇮🇳 Mangalore has a tabletop airport and you get to witness one of the most beautiful landing!
I’ll definitely consider Mangalore if it’s a great approach! Thanks for the tip.
They dont usually dimm the windows bcoz i travelled in the same flight a week ago so idk why they did it to you, could be bcoz they forgot or something else

23:43 ah yes yes my very favorite turbulence
Gives me thrills but scares the crap outta everyone else
True. But there has never been a crash due to turbulence so that should reassure people a little..
As an Israeli, born and raised, but live in the USA now, thank you for visiting our great country. I am happy you can visit Israel, the Egyptian government doesn't allow it's citizens visit in Israel, at all. The opposite is okay. Go figure.
Edit,
Did you enjoy your trip to Israel in general?
I love visiting Israel, at the end of the day it’s a Mediterranean country like my own so it’s easy to feel at home.
The only spine in my brain is to go through security on my way back, but ok, I’m a pro now 😎
Thanks for writing!
@@TheLayoverAviation you're welcome, thank you for the support and I wish you the best! Salam Alaikum!
Y nunca me encuentran nada🤷🏻♂️
Gracias por el comentario!
@@TheLayoverAviation gracias. Considera de ser posible, hacer la calificación de tus vuelos, sería algo muy interesante y útil aunque en realidad con el detalle que siempre señalas ayuda mucho!
Lo asombroso de esto es que una aerolinea irani este parqueada al lado de una de israel
Unique plating. I think they could have given more food for a 3 hour flight… but that might be because I’m a big guy lol
There were meals that seemed bigger but I was tempted to try the Souvlaki and it was a good choice. I finished it all and was full.
The flight attendant offered me a second meal but I had to refuse as I was very full..
I hope you get to try it!
Love your suitcase with all the stickers!! Where’d you buy your suitcase from?
It’s a German brand called Rimowa. They’re good quality.
The stickers I buy sometimes when I visit a new country😃
@@TheLayoverAviation ohhhh Rimowa!! It sounds so familiar and definitely rings a bell 🔔!!! Thanks so much for sharing the info! :)
Nice video!
Thanks my friend!
One of the better 787 cabins imo. And the best livery out there period! Will you be doing Arkia and Israir too?
One of the better B787 cabins indeed Avishai, I loved it. Same seat as Qatar Airways’ B787-9 but I liked it better despite no door. And the livery is stunning. I remember that the old one made me scared as a little kid when I was spotting 😅
Yes, Arkia and Israir too!
Why do they do that
LOL, that was funny to see Mahan Air parked close to El Al. That means Peace is always possible between human beings 🙏
Nobody had any issues at the gate areas, quite the contrary!
Thanks for writing🙂
Having enemy is not healthy.
marcambouphaure, Yeah, right, a very LOGICAL conclusion!
I have, obviously, not watched any more of your videos nor, of course, posted any more comments since doing so would be a farce. .
Dimmed windows is a security measure. It needs to be dark so you can see the evacuation signs on the floor in case of emergency.
So all the 99.99% of flights it’s being done wrong?
Nope, not the reason. Dimming the lights applies on. night flights, not daytime.
If I would have to evacuate during the day and the cabin was dark I would be blinded by the sun at the door.
I don't get it
The grey seat fabric is very tasteful.
The whole cabin is nicely designed!
I’m also looking forward to fly the B777-200ER with RR engines, but it’s important to sit in front of them to hear the music!☝🏼
The lunch main course was one of the best I’ve had. Just simple good food and nothing fancy.
Most of the El Al pilots were in the military, yes. Everyone in Israel has been to the military except for those excempted!
Nice flight report. The food looked tasty ... and the wine selection ... nice ... but no Manischewitz? Oy Vey! 😂🍷 Looking forward to the next video 🥃🥃
I was wondering if they had any other drinks besides the wines… I think I might have asked, that’s what I would do but can’t remember now😂.
My father in law collects miniature alcohol so I’m sure I asked for something and the answer was likely no.
M taking the EL Al on my upcoming trip. Thank you!
I remembered that el Al flies to India too ( Mumbai and Delhi) but it’s not shown in the magazine 😢 sad 😔 did they stop?
They did during the pandemic and they should resume later this year. Maybe Oct and Nov.
First n happy

hello!
Never would I fly that particular airline but I'm glad you had a good flight;
It was far better of what I expected!
You apparently enjoy the questioning. Lucky you!
I love it and I am looking forward to the next time!😂
Don't take it personally , is probably because you travel to arab countries you get the extra security.
I live in Israel (wasn't born here) and sometimes I get weird questions as well
Thanks for the info, I kind of suspected it amongst other reasons. It just gets extremely tiring. Specially when I start missing flights and losing my patience😂
All the best with future travels!
@@TheLayoverAviation I am sure there are other airlines available to choose from.
Very nice trip report! Too bad with the dark window during takeoff...
That was so incredibly annoying…
Thanks for writing!
Nice info here.! As a claustrophobic person on airplanes the dimmed windows look suffocating....
Great video though
I've seen a few El Al fleets from time to time in the videos of the Narita Airport, but I don't know if they currently have regular flights to Japan.
❤❤❤
❤️
I hope one day I will fly Al el I need to taste koshar food at 35 thousand feet.
Whatever you wish in life you’ll get!
El Al 100% sure has the best and freshest Kosher food in the world. Most other airlines just serve some frozen sealed box!
@@TheLayoverAviation Thanks for the info I'm looking forward to EL Al in due course shalom.
Did you have issues traveling the arab/muslim countries after this trip? Like a lot of them refuse entry, when you have an israeli stamp in your passport.
Because of that, Israel doesn’t stamp passports they give you a paper instead of a stamp.
If I'm not mistaken, those are basically the same seats as United Polaris and the Air France (intended for Joon) A350s.
I didn’t get to see the AF A350’s yet. But yes, it’s a popular seat. Also the same as QR on the B787-9 in Business, only that those have a door.
@@TheLayoverAviation I believe while both seats have similar features, both seats are different. El Al uses Recaro's CL6710, while the one Qatar's 787-9 uses is Adient's Ascent.
Wow thanks for the info! I remembered them
almost identical. I see you know your stuff!
@@TheLayoverAviation And now that I look, I see that Polaris and AF A350 are Safran/Zodiac Optima. So many seats models that are similar!
I was going to fly back on the -8 but missed my flight in security lines so I flew Emirates instead :)
Too bad about the windows, hopefully it doesn’t happen again next time.
9:43 Technically the flight attendants broke the law, it is under ICAO regulations that all windows must be clear/unblocked, they have impeded this
I see many US airlines landing with blinds down/closed. I think it might depend on the airline, no?
Dimmed windows against my will - that is why I completely avoid flying the B787!
Airbus is apparently going to offer that style of window as an option on future A350s.
This was the first time for me someone blocked them on take off.. So sad. I wonder if there is a reason behind.
