it's just just hip going into external rotation and the rest of the leg and the feet connected to it following along, it doesn't mean that position is better for you, could be with toes more out if your femurs are really long for example, that depends on your own biomechanics, not your butt squeeze. The Squeeze is good tho, mainly for preventing lumbar hyperextension during hip flexion.
I assist myself down into the hole and move my knees and feet around until I am comfortable then stand up on my own. I do that a few times then do bodyweight squats with that same placement. Squeezing my glutes helps cue in the lower part of my posterior chain for stability.
Flexing your but does not move your feet,,where do you guys come up with this shit,,talking about wasting energy from getting your self ready to do a set uses to much energy, wow,,that statement reminds me of people that want someone to give them a hand with dumbells,,oh can you hand me that one,,really,,dont be lazy,,
Wayne Barnes Everyone’s femur connects to the hip socket at different angles. Perhaps you’re one of the few for whom tensing your butt does not move your feet, but for many (me for instance) it does. Yes, that is absolutely sterling advice for how to get your feet into the most natural squatting position for your anatomy.
@@Kaddywompous I agree with you, i always do this almost instinctively, as i squeeze my glute, my foot rotates about 30 degrees making the right position to efficiently squat.
this video is so golden to see now, how the cameraguy's calls are still in it and how they are just laughing at the start of a segment due to some off cam stuff, is just so wholesome to see with the knowledge of how far russel has come now.
The thing about low bar is that you don't want to grab in like a you're doing a bench press. With low bar if you use double overhand technique with your thumb above/on top of the bar and pull the bar into your traps it reduces wrist strain almost completely. Depends on your anatomy of course but double overhave is usually better for reducing wrist impingement.
Very informative video bro! Coming from a squat guy, you nailed it. I'll have my son watch this, he's 13 and started lifting with me. I have a hard time with trying to teach him proper squat mechanics. I guess its cuz I can't see from a 3rd person perspective. This will help tremendously. Thanks for the vid.
From the 8:00 mark you might be right for a lot of people but Clarence does the exhaling at the sticking point just thought blanket advice isn't always the best
Kelvin is a crappy camera man. However the info you give is 100% legit bro. Only a few people give this type of information. But the camera man. sheesh.
Amazing lesson and the most clear squat I ever see Thank you so much Now I am very happy to subscribe and follow you ... By the my name is LEO .. and I send you warm Greetings from Sudan
Just started watching 2 days ago and this guy is a God. I have nothing but respect towards his grind, his hard work, his love for training. With his shape and size while also continuing his UA-cam career awes me. I already know you put effort in what you do. So keep doing you Big Guy. 🤘🏾
I was just about to ask you about Squats! This video was right on time, I have come to the discussion to do squats in some shap or form. I have always felt that I was doing squats wrong but you have given me the confidence to kill it the next time im in the gym. keep that good info coming. How do you work out your calves, any helpful subjection on that?
Nice work Russwole. It's squat day workshop today so I'm glad i'm subscribed. :) C'mon Kelvin, quit with the artistic video major angles and just show what Russ wants to show us.
Don't use your thumbs to wrap bar and it will help with wrist and elbow mobility allowing you to get a closer grip on the bar and keep your back tight. To each their own, I know some people don't feel comfortable not having thumbs around the bar.
russ do you believe that the body grows together. Meaning that you actually need to do legs for your upperbody to grow. I do upperbody workouts about 5 times a week then 1 leg day. Do you think that would fuck me up or nahh?
squeeze the bar hard, at bottom drive back into bar, drive up to stop yhe good morning, also push hips forward and squeeze glutes to come back up. around shoulder width max, feet pointed out, no wider than 45. grip wider than shoulder width. when bar slightly on rear delts, pop the bar of the rack by squeezing your glutes. 2 steps out and stabilise. shoulder blades retracted. elbows down and elbows forward for low bar shelf. elbows tucked and in line with torso. bar is mid chest to shoulder height. neutral head. elbows in line w torso. possibly jam big toe into ground high bar: hands a bit wider than shoulder width. shins should be parallel with back. rest bar on top of scapula. feet at hip width or slightly wider. point feet out. break at hips first then sit straight down. hip hinge should be a lot less than low bar though.feet hip width.
I also turn my feet outward, and I find that it works better for me standing a little wider than most. I've had so many high-bar squatters and bodybuilders want to correct me, but if I keep my feet pointed forward and at hip width, my back goes Gumby. My ancestors were troglodytes. Interesting that you hook your thumb under the bar. I feel more comfortable with my thumbs behind the bar with my fingers. I've never had a problem holding the bar in place, and it seems to help keep my wrist neutral. Any reason I shouldn't do it this way?
THE BEST TIP OF ALL TIME = SQUEEZE YOUR GLUTES TO FIND YOUR NATURAL TOE POINTING DIRECTION. THANK YOU. OMG. SUBSCRIBED.
Life hacks right there

Just tried this and after 7 year it finally made my squat feel good
That was the best

Flexing your butt to set your feet is a really good tip man, thanks
Flexing your but does not move your feet,,where do you guys come up with this shit,,talking about wasting energy from getting your self ready to do a set uses to much energy, wow,,that statement reminds me of people that want someone to give them a hand with dumbells,,oh can you hand me that one,,really,,dont be lazy,,

break somerecords then talk bud, lmao!~
Wayne Barnes it does actually. If you externally rotate your hips you activate your abductors which will move your feet if they are relaxed.
The squeeze the glutes for foot positioning is probably the easiest but best advice I've ever received 👍🏼👍🏼
I feel like I unlocked something by using this tip lol.
The camera man is balls
this video is so golden to see now, how the cameraguy's calls are still in it and how they are just laughing at the start of a segment due to some off cam stuff, is just so wholesome to see with the knowledge of how far russel has come now.
Thoroughly appreciated, your catalog of old videos are always a great help and its always great to see how far you've come. Keep it up !
Thank you. Appreciate even this video is 3 years old. You r the beast.

Same here kol
Same LMFAO

gotta need a video slowing that
you need a new camera man...
Mo Ullah on god this video just pissed me off coz I wanna see the man squat not see his damn face or just a screen of the plates smh
It was driving me crazy, what a fucking idiot
Prolly having a random guy in the gym film tbh
needs to show the side angle-too many close ups
Stfu man
Would ya fancy letting the camera man know that he should actually film your legs as you squat
^^^

The intro song is very similar to Atmosphere - The Woman With The Tattooed Hands 👍
it is Atmosphere yeah cant believe the first video I watch with Russ has my favorite group as sondtrack
@@MrCubeDK big fan as well. More of their older stuff though 👍
wow didn't know about the breathing technique thanks a bunch !
Very good tutorial Russ!
Good job man! I love this kind of videos :)
Thanks for helping me with my foot placement
Angle of the camera is out
Should have focus on your whole body squat movement when u squat so we can see clearly
Great video man keep it up!
For an IPF competiton do you have to walk it out? Or they use monolifts?
Pretty sure monolifts are only used with those heavy equipped lifters
Great video
Brother,you are just ginius.
that depth at the end,,,
The tutorial was pretty good, I think the camera angle needs to improve but the content is good
Brooo hell yeah pro tips for sure 🤞🏽💯
new fan here bro.
Thanks for the tips!! Very informative. 💪
Wow great tip on feet placement.
You are an amazing squatter

9:06 bro this is hilarious I love this comparison 😂
Nice vid man thanks

Ruswole! Bye bye knee pain! Do yo thing bro! Thank you
Ty for the tips dude 💪🏼💪🏼
I was feeling good, I tweaked my back yesterday doing my last rep of my squat. Pretty disappointed, since it'll set me back a few weeks
Great video bro!
