the expressway to your heart is unbelievable, totally smoking !
This is so supremely good it really should be taken in doses.
did someone say 'doses' lol
@@bluesriot2 LOL
DOSES!
I listen to the Dead just about every single day.
And then one morning last week I asked myself, what else is there?
After searching I’ve found what I believe might be the most Sublime recoding
Jerry ever laid his hands on.
To me it’s about the Music - and the Lyrics, words and gestures are all good.
But the Soul is right here. Safe to say that I am Addicted towards this groove.
Peace 2 All Beings, Jerry Lives ~ Nick.
over 100 shows, the best time of my life!

Had the delightful privilege of going to a Legion of Mary concert in Chicago McCormick Place. Was smaller crowd maybe 400-500 people really laid back and terrific! Did you notice the first song here is JJ Cale's song, After Midnight Cale wrote that also became Eric Clapton's first commercial hit song. Credits to JJ Cale! Merle Saunders had such a cool groove and this was when reggie was just becoming widely known to the world. Love how Garcia could get into every kind of music bluegrass, folk, traditional, rock, reggie, improvisational and jazz.
Best Garcia and friends show of ALL TIME hands down, & there’s not even a close second! Why this isn’t some kind of official release is dumbfounding. It is interesting to hear how Garcia is pushed, inspired &/or motivated by Fogerty, & who ever the guitarist in the guest band is that joins in after 2nd that emotion. This merger is where I believe some of you think Howard Wales joins the fold. I’m not sure, but it’s freaking amazing🤠🍄🤯. Wish Jerry & Co lead guitar had happened more often. Only brief glimpses over the years with Carlos and a few others. 1972 Jerry “in the zone” was something special indeed.
So true
I remember sleeping in the bushes at fourth avenue "the miracle mile" and sir francis drake blvd after this show.damn.....kids
Ya you were not alone
Jerry only cared about making great music that got him off. That's why no matter what project it is, it's always incredibly tight and just plain good. A lot of people "phone in" their side projects and its nowhere as good as their main gig. In Jerry's case, the side projects are where he had full control of his vision and he molded them in into perfection
RIP Jerry
True that
Agree 100000%. I feel like Jerry was actually a better musician away from the Dead. Guitar, mandolin, banjo, doesn't fucking matter.
Merl made Jerry sing when Jerry wanted Merl to sing.
@@fjfurhgkaig it's TRUE. The Deads whole sound was based on the unconventional, quirky styles of his bandmates. You had Phil basically playing melodic lead bass half the time, instead of holding down the root notes and staying in the pocket. You had Bobby playing some crazy version of rhythm guitar that incorporates odd chord inversions and odd rhythmic stabs. Plus two drummers that somehow made everything sound looser, and polyrhythmic. But Jerry would know exactly how to make it all work and to fill in the holes. Sometimes he would play more of a bassline than Phil (He's Gone, Ramble On Rose, China cat intro) to help cement the groove. Sometimes he strummed the chords like a rhythm player while Bobby just chimed in occasionally (lady with a fan, eyes) Other times he was pure lead. Somehow it always worked and sounded unique. They crafted a new sound around their strengths and Jerry was well aware it was unconventional. He wanted the Dead to be a melting pot of sounds and styles and he didn't tell people what to play.
But the JGB was different. The drums, Bass, keys, all had their specific role and Jerry was in front. He had amazing musical support from a tight rhythm section that knew their roles and instruments well. More conventional but the tightness allowed them to dig deeper at times. Plus the song selection was purely whatever turned Jerry on at that moment. There were no standards they had to play every run. The two bands are so different but thanks to Jerry, the magic is always there.
Garcia & Saunders are the perfect combination.

Yeah,i second that emotion.
I've done a(very) few of them.
It's tedious. Thanks!🌹🌹
Much obliged.
needed to know what this 1:44:00 was!
'I Second That Emotion' which starts at 1:18 is phenomenal! The keyboard in the background rocks and out of all the versions I've heard, I think this one is the best. Fantastic!
GRATEFUL SOUNDS !
Whoa dude- you did it. It's safe with really great beings in sacred sites. Thank you for everything you have done for this divine music that frees minds and makes beings happy. You have done a huge amount. Happy 75th birthday.

Anja Cradden should have seen it live! beautiful and unpretentious.

We all understand how scared this music is, we must do whatever it takes to turn the world on to this.

Missed the 70,s but caught the 80’s and 90”s! ❤️ This whole set straight 🔥
Thanks so much for the Sunday morning buzz!
you are a god among uploaders
Good times back in those days!!
Saw first Jerry Band Legion of Mary Easter time 1975 senior in HS went out to Passaic NJ to the Capitol 🎭 Theater awesome venue wonder if there is video of that Kahn and Merl were master accompanists to Jerry’ finesse If the Dead were a 12 meter sailboat ⛵️ Jerry bands were Italian speedboats long fast elegant and exotic
yeah man, thanks for the post,I TRULEY Enjoying it,what a Blessing to here this suit again!!!!!##!!!

Okay I have just read all the comments. Obviously this is not the same as Garcia vol 6 live at the Lion's Share. Does anyone have any information on where this was recorded, who is playing and vocals. Someone mentioned in the comments that it is Howard Wale and not Merle on keyboards. Any verification on keyboards. Is there a third guitarist on this and who is he. I had seen Jerry and Merle a lot at the Keystone and my favorite band was with the lineup of Kahn, Vitt, Fogerty, Merle and Jerry. This is so much more than that. Incredible music and thanks to the person who posted
That would be ....
Its definitely merl. not sure on a third guitar.
Lordy!!! This show gets Sweaty!!!!!!
This is Jerry Garcia & Howard Wales. Merle Saunders did not perform
at this show.
So unbelievably sick. After Midnight especially 😊
Merl &Jerry must've taken home the 25 dislike's girls home after the show or somthin
Let it allll hang out. Love you, Jerry.
Very awesome. Forgot how well they played to get. Thanks!
whaoh ! Vulfpeck got me here...amazing music ! thanks guys !
What song does Vulpeck do?
How did Vulfpeck get you here? Vulfpeck is a nice funky band :)
20:45 baby please don’t go
Days, gone and i don't think they be acomin back. $3.50. Music like this in a(probably) kinda small place.
Jerry pre H. Wow...what it would have been like to be there. Seriously dosed! Whew.
Somebody(and i swear to you,i can't remember who) said once-mid 70's like.....that 1 Jerry Band show was worth 10 Dead shows.
BUT....BUT,one(count it,one) Legion show was better than 10 JGB shows!!
Not making it up.....and i kinda have to agree.
Especially if you're including the 90's in the Dead's inventory. Just mho....
🌹🌹
I would trade 100 of my Dead shows for one more night with Jerry at Warfield. I never got to see earlier incarnations, but nothing ever came close to the Jerry Band Shows I saw 91-94.
