    You ask in the video if we enjoyed this? Well, never underestimate the joy we plant lovers get from being able to look in detail at someone else's collection! I LOVED this video so much-and I am sure others did too! Very interesting, and you have such gorgeous plants! It is also fun to see where many of my own air plants lived before I got them shipped to me from you! Thank you so much Dave for taking the time to share this beautiful video with all of us fellow plant lovers! You are greatly appreciated! :)

    I’m impressed with your collection. I was drawn in because I have a Tillandsia Xerographica that was given to me. I had no clue what they where but learned how great these plants are. You have beautiful ones. Keep posting.

    Great video. Thank you for sharing. I also live in an apartment and would love to hear more about grow lights, hygrometers? or other devices you use. Do you ever have a mold problem?

    • @DavesAirPlantCorner
      @DavesAirPlantCorner  3 роки тому +2

      Thanks for watching, really appreciate it 💚 I use the grow lights since my window doesn't get much direct sun and some plants do appreciate a bit more light. I'm not an expert in them though, but I know that full spectrum is good for overall plant health and inducing blooms. I find it dry in apartments so I use humidifier to up the humidity all through the year, espscially in winters. I don't find that I have mold problems, I do run a fan most through the days to help the air circulation.

    Hi Dave, would you do an episode on pest control?
    I read that airplants are not susceptible to pest.. but sometimes it can still happen.
    I had a T.Harrisii about a month ago.. 2 weeks ago I noticed it grow a little new roots (yay it is happy where it is).
    Yesterday I found the root grew a little longer (yay).. but unfortunately, i found mealy bugs on it.
    I'm not sure how it got there (indoors). Most probably it came together with the plant.
    I took a few off the plant physically. Then dunk the plant completely submerged in water for 30mins, trying to drown the mealy bug. It didn't work. Seems that mealy bug can't drown.
    Then, I add some detergent into the water. (Maybe too little as I'm afraid to harm the plant). Then, I sprayed the root area with IPA. Then rinse the plant with water, and left it to dry.
    Today, still found some bugs on the plant. So apparently it didn't work.
    I read many articles saying that IPA(isopropyl alcohol) kills mealy bugs, and many says it kills them on contact. on testing, this is simply not true.
    I capture 1 mealy bug and sprayed IPA (70% v/v) on it. It didn't kill the bug. Some articles say it will turn brown meaning it is dead. Not true. The bug turn brown/reddish brown, but still moves around even after a few hours. it is so disappointing.
    Do you have any experience with mealy bugs?

    • @cattfishing
      @cattfishing 3 роки тому

      The bug turns brown when it's not getting enough oxygen. But it will eventually recover. I too had bugs arrive on some air plants I ordered off of Ebay with both mealy bugs and these tiny black beetles infested all over every leaf of the plants. What I did was "fumigate " to get rid of the bugs as I used the same methods as you with same unfortunate results. Idk how you feel about the use of pesticides. But if you're willing or desperate enough, it's the only thing that works for me. What I do is put the infested plants into a clear plastic tub with a lid, dusted the plants and surrounding tub with sevin dust and left them in overnight, or 2 days depending on how many plants and how severe the infestation is. When I come back, the bugs are all dead on the bottom of container. I have another method for harder to reach bugs if you're interested. But it's a bit drastic. Lol
