Billy idol is still one of the richest rockers of the era. Was very good at not wasting his money. Was very involved with raising his kids. An all around hard working guy. Love him to this day.
That "lip thing" is his trademark Billy Idol sneer. No idea why, but it seems to work for him - and has for many decades now. 👍
Billy was also in the plane at the end of the movie "The Wedding Singer".....great bit !!....so i'll vote for Rebel Yell first from him and White Wedding second.
He was the bad boy of rock back then and I just loved him . Yeah I had to get up and dance when you played this song. He's still sexy to this old fan.
I love this song. My mom introduced me to Billy Idol when I was a kid. If you haven't heard his song, Rebel Yell, I highly recommend a listen.

When we were in HS, my friend's dad moved them to the UK for a job. She was able to see Billy Idol, her absolute obsession, live in concert. We were so happy for her!

Billy Idol's "Mony Mony" (pronounced moh-nee moh-nee) is actually a cover. The original was done by Tommy James & the Shondells and was released in 1968.
Apparently they had the track done before the song had a title. From Wikipedia...
"The song's title was inspired by Tommy James' view of the "M.O.N.Y." sign atop the Mutual of New York Building on the New York City skyline from his Manhattan apartment."
Dude! This song is holds one of the "secrets" of the 80s! You're gonna think I'm trolling or pulling your leg, but I am absolutely serious about this. This is a real thing:
If there are a group of 80's kids (who are all in old people in their 50s now) and this song comes on, you will end up with a group of old people singing/yelling "hey! hey, what? GET LAID GET F***ED!" It sounds silly, but it's absolutely true. I am serious; google it!
Brings a smile to my face every time, too. Man, I hope you read 4-day late comments, because it's such a funny/silly and often forgotten snippet of the time.
This tradition isn't just national - it extends up to Canada, and different regions have their variations where the wording is different.

Don't worry about being lost on the lyrics - this song was from my era, and I still have no clue what it's really about! But it's such a fun song! This song was always played at high school dance, and the kids would yell out "additional lyrics" between lines, at several places in the song. Those "additional lyrics"?? : "Hey! Get laid! Get f-----!" :-)
Oh yeah, this was a dance crowd favorite song and the extra lyrics were yelled by all!😅🤣 This I remember, graduated HS in ‘86!

Tbh, the cover of Mony Mony is one of his weaker songs. Anything on his album Rebel Yell is worth listening to. 'Flesh for Fantasy' is my personal favourite, but great album overall. (Mony Mony was also covered in the same year (or the year after) by The Stranglers, another band definitely worth listening from that period.) Anyway, BI is an interesting character, drug abuse, violence, the whole slew of bad punk boy behaviour; it's a wonder that he survived all the shit he put himself into. Still to this day love his music.
