IgG4-RD Life Episode 17 - Speaking w/Gary Ho

Mahsa sits down with Gary Ho, founder of the Gout Support Group of America. Gary is a patient, a patient advocate, and also an ally and an admin of one of the online international IgG4-RD support groups. He shares his story about his struggle to get a proper diagnosis as he struggled against medical gaslighting in his 16-year battle against the prevailing narratives regarding gout in the medical community that created a health equity gap for younger people and women afflicted with this disease.
In listening to Gary's journey, we reflect on parallels between patient journeys among the various rare disease communities. We also learn how important it is to listen, learn, speak up, speak out, and challenge outdated information so that the medical and patient communities can collaborate in the journey toward our enhanced quality of life.
Our shared lived experiences transcend the differences in our disease manifestations.
