As someone who was born in France and lived there for several years, this is beyond embarrassing. I live in the United States now and seeing the state that France is in truly saddens me. You know there's a problem when you see more Palestinian flags than French flags.

I saw mainstream media saying the left won and the right lost. After I did some research, the Le Pen party went from 80 seats to 140. I would be concern about that if i was the opposing party.
The left party. Macron lost by a ton. So they consolidated every left party together to create one so they can get as many votes as possible
Well that’s negates context. Wanna know who performed even better than the far right? The far left . They nearly quadrupled their seats. And there was no such coalition two months ago. Also when you win close to 80% of the seats in the first round, and was projected to win a landslide majority in the second, and end up coming in 3rd . That’s kinda a loss also the doubling of seat was not solely or even majorly la pen. That was due to other small right wing parties that joined her coalition

Le Pen's party also won the biggest share of the popular vote, but Macron sided with literal communists and got the seats for their parties. That country was already on a downward spiral, and it's only going to get worse with a more radical left in there. Not only that but the radical left decided to have themselves a nice riot to celebrate winning...
A deadlocked government is a wonderful thing. It means they can't constantly pass a slew of stupid restrictive laws that never get repealed.

Paris was a shi+hole when I was there in 2022. Friggin riots in the middle of the street, my wife saw masked people throw a piece of concrete through a business window and it struck the elderly woman owner right in the head.. After we left a restaurant around 10pm the doorman told me to not let my wife walk alone at night in Paris as hooligans and criminals are everywhere. After 10 days we moved on to the next part of our vacation- Venice. So much nicer!

Macron would not be the first French Ptesident who would have a "cohabitation" government of a different political party. It happened in 1986-1988 (Mitterand P-Chirac PM), in 2993-1995 (Mitterand P-Baladur PM), in 1997-2002 (Chirac P-Jospin PM). In the US, a president doesn't resign because the Congress is of a different affiliation. The only difference is that the Prime Minister is responsible to the assembly, while in the US the cabinet serves at the pleasure of the president.

I read a BBC article on the French elections and, to me at least, even though their anti-Right bias did show through (more on that in a moment), I thought they did a generally good job explaining what happened. The BBC could not help themselves but to characterize the French Conservative parties as "far-right", explicitly calling them that more than once. Never could they bring themselves to refer to the French Liberal parties as "far-left", even though they correctly described these disparate groups as "Liberals, Greens, Socialists, Communists and Trotskyites". How far Left do you have to be that you don't consider Communists and Trotskyites to be "far-left"?
My guess is that the far-left coalition will quickly turn on each other, at which point nothing will get done. The Left always eats itself. The far-left has, for now, thwarted the will of the French electorate, but dissatisfaction from the voters along with gridlock in parliament will result in new elections in pretty short order.

They didn’t show that 10 plus million vote went to the right wing party. The left wing party got 8 million plus and the centrist party got over 6 million. The way the seats are Jerry meandered makes it difficult for the right to win.
As a French person, think before you comment misinformation: the seats are not gerrymandered, this situation is completely valid and possible under our system. 🇫🇷✌️
@@mathieuchangeux7840 The party that got 10 million getting less seats than the party that got 6 million would indicate that there is something seriously wrong with the layout of the districts, or the run off system currently being used. Those results are way beyond what you would expect if the districts were proportioned to represent the citizens. The various right leaning parties got around 48 precent of the vote in total, but around 1/3 of the seats.
Regardless of weather it is intentional or not there is something clearly wrong with how the voting districts are decided on, or with the electoral system.
But the point is the media is making it seem like the right had a major defeat. The right picked up seats, and initial media reports stating the right would win in a landslide were made prior to the left tactically withdrawing candidates. So those initial pronouncements the media made were not based on any assumption that the right was going to win more votes, but that there would be a lot of three way races in the second round. That means the media is being dishonest by framing the results as some kind of shocking loss for the right leaning parties. The right got about the share of the overall popular vote that people should have expected them to get given there results in the European Union elections.
Weird how they think the majority being center left and left means deadlocked, but okay.

We all honestly need more centrist leaders to help bridge the left and the right. Go too far to the left and you get just as many issues as you get from the far right, even if those issues might be different.

While no party has an outright majority, this is far from a dead lock, there is going to be a coalition government, the only question is who’s going to be in it, and what policies Macron will have to give up, or add to form it.
To me it's not complicated. There are about 65 MPs from the center right party and macron would need to convince only about 20 of them to come over to his party and he would then have a working government and a prime minister.

The vote in the EU Parliament has to be seem as a inconsequential election that the bulk of people did not really care about. As for the Left some of their leaders are talking a good game, but they are in no position to deliver, Macron still holds the center, and the power to decide the next government.
I'm glad I got to go over and see France in 1998. I don't think it's going to be the kind of place you want to go to to visit much longer (if it even is now).

In the first round yes, but France has two rounds, and the majority of people didn't want NR in so the centrists and left wing parties withdrew third place candidates to stop the NR. The map of the second round of voting shows an equal mix of yellow, purple, and blue. Hence a three way split in parliament

The French voted for RN to win. They had 11 million votes vs the left party that had the most seats 6.5 millions. So this means majority of French want RN. It s the trick(200 plus drop offs in public officials) which caused them to be 3rd place. Next election it s gonna be more and people might not accept this cheat next time
