Well, I guess we're really coming full circle :) Welcome to my second complete playthrough of Black Mesa. I'm excited for this series, and I hope you are too. Sorry for the delay on this, but as I mentioned before I'm having a crazy busy year outside of UA-cam, so my upload rate may vary - I just wanted to toss this up really quickly to let you guys all know that I AM determined to see this game through from start to end. I was never completely satisfied with my original playthrough. This time around I will double down on making it as cinematic as possible while still showing off good gameplay. Also, I have started uploading all my content in 1440p, which hopefully provides a much better visual quality to my videos. Let me know if there are any issues at all.
@@Sexy_Nutella Ah, yes, who cares about safety protocols, resonance cascade, leaked radiation and chemical waste, numbers of killed personel and alien invasion if you can become an advisor of the new world. At least they had a highly trained professional that looks like an orange popsicle.
They put a lot of effort and thinking to it. The blackout before the generator is reactivated was a stroke of genius and the guard actually switching the turntable for you at the end almost brought a tear to my eye. The only thing I'm not pleased with, is the final checkpoint where the guard tells you about the missile launch. Just like in the original HL, he's completely isolated and there's like no indication as to how the hell did he even got there?
@@luckylarry71 When I played back in 2012, that moment with the guard was unexpected and touching... really felt bad for him after slowly moving away on the cart
Thanks man ;) In all seriousness it's just a force of habit when I'm naming similar videos in a full playthrough like I'm planning to do with this game.
Came to this channel from Soup Emporium, the footage of beating the lobby fight timed perfectly with the music was worth a subscribe alone. I look forward to seeing the rest of the playthrough.
@ But those are very heavily modified, while the Black Mesa source engine is modified a little, the Titanfall engine basically replaced a lot of source’s features and pipelines to remove the limitations.
Good God, I'm in love with your channel, loved the cinematic idea, always wanted to watch those types of playthrough on youtube instead of some random youtubers ignoring obvious paths and not knowing where to look, also loved the trivia on your description and the little summary of the chapter, this is perfect, congratulations!
Thank you for the comment :) I started these playthroughs because, like you said, a lot of players upload videos of the games where they aren't really taking it in. They often just breeze past elaborate set pieces, dialogue and gloss over small things that enhance the story. As well, they often take a LOT of damage and quicksave their way to the next chapter. All these things are understandable (these videos that I make take a LOT of time, something most youtubers don't necessarily have), but they take me out of the experience and immersion in the gameworld. I am glad that my intentions for a more cinematic and immersive playstyle are evident. I'll definitely keep working on this series. The only tradeoff is that they take a crazy amount of time to make haha :P Hope you can bear with me on that.
For sure. It's easy to look back and think of it as just another intro sequence but Half-Life pioneered this style of "show don't tell" gameplay and Black Mesa paid tribute to that in spades
The additional irony at 7:06 is that a bit before the VOX tells employees to contact their radiation safety officer if they feel they have been exposed to radiation.
More Trivia for Dr. Cross: She also appears in Half-Life: Blueshift as a small cameo. Barney Calhoun can enter a video surveillance room and check one of the monitor feeds to watch her deliver the GG-3883 crystal sample to the delivery chute. Stated from the Combine Overwiki
Soup Emporium sent me here. So far, I'm thoroughly enjoying the videos, and you've earned yourself a sub! I've watched 3 episodes in this playlist and I wanted to thank you for the uploads. I like the way you play: exploring all paths, triggering most dialogue options, nodding and shaking head, jumping zooming and cinematically looking and zooming at POIs. Also, I just noticed the extensive write-up in the form of brief outline, notes, and trivia in video descriptions. I'm back tracking and reading them all. Looking forward to your Blue Shift and maybe OpFor uploads some day!
Hi there, welcome and thanks for the comment! All those things you mention are the result of a ton of effort to present the game in the best light possible, so I'm glad you enjoy it. Will definitely be hoping to upload videos of the OpFor remake once that's out for sure. Currently working on the Black Mesa re-imagining of Blue Shift in the meantime :)
One minor idea: Could you install the Tau cannon particle mod? It is a minor detail and doesn't really diverge much from what the game is inteded to be, but it really makes a Tau shot similar to the original game.
@@Sexy_Nutella I have made some efforts to add back some features of that weapon too. On the weapon code there are a lot of features like the particle explosion when it hits a wall, and the hability to penetrate walls, but it is significantly minimized, so the Tau doesn't really act like the original. I get it, it was very overpowered, and considering Black Mesa gives much more ammo it would be the go for weapon for the entire game. But I also noticed that when I altered the weapon status, it is very dangerous to use it near allies and explosives because even the primary fire penetrates walls and explodes on the other side. It becomes VERY overpowered to a point I even prefer it to the Gluon Gun (I do it anyway, Tau is my favorite weapon). But it is worth it to try ballance the weapon to make it even more like HL1. I also noticed that, when it penetrates a wall, the beam divides in random directions, which can potentially hit items and other NPC's. That is even included on the unaltered weapon that comes with the game, but only works on straight thin walls.
I did indeed. Making thumbnails is honestly one of the most fun parts of making these videos because it lets me become a photographer of sorts haha, finding the perfect angles and such.
It's always bothered me a bit that only scientists and guards work at Black Mesa. It's a bit stupid that in parts like this 1:46 or these 1:56 you see scientists doing maintenance.
The "Inbound Revamped" workshop mod fixes this by adding a bunch of new character skins that are more suited to their work environments, such as maintenance personnel and so forth. I believe you also need the "BMCE" mod for the revamped mod to work
This is pessimistic but the hydraulic cylinder rods on the blast doors don't actually stroke in and out like they're supposed to. A minor flaw but could be easily remedied by only revealing the rod section of the cylinder to the player. This would of also been easier to model since the gland serves no apparent role in its operation. Terrific remake overall.
You should do something with Black Mesa Azure Sheep. It features combat in war-torn BM Inbound, chapter " Walking to Inbound ". It's a really good mod.
I wish Crowbar Collective would take some features from Mmod for HL2 and its episodes and add those features to the game. Oh yes also some kind of hardcore/hell difficulty would be awesome, because I played HL so much that everything in these source games is too easy for me. Idk if you tried Minerva: Metastatis with the Mmod, but that mod must be the most hardcore HL2 mod I´ve ever played. I never saved my game in that mod, I played just using the auto save as if it was some kind of checkpoint.
All this work and it still looks like 2008 game in most areas. Yet they managed to make it look way modern on Xen chapters. I think It's more a matter of too much vibrant colours and flat lighting.
Some areas do look a bit dated, but I do think overall the increased density, particularly in the outdoor areas, make it stand out for me. The new Surface Tension cliffside is amazing in my opinion, but yeah Xen definitely is a standout from a graphical point of view.
Always love watching inbound sequence, even rewatch Unreal Engine version sometime. Btw, you should have left the good morning part from the security guy. And how did you make thumbnail like that? Thanks.
