- Over the past few weeks, Voguefilm has premiered a new initiative in support of Chinese women in film. The team have curated six of China’s most promising new female filmmakers and have been in the trenches with each of them over the year, developing their narrative shorts from script to final cut. Among them is actress-writer-director Chase Sui Wonders’ WAKE, starring Wonders herself, Charles Melton, Emily May Jampel, Havana Rose Liu and Lukita Maxwell. Wonders tells a nuanced story of friendship, forbidden love and self-awareness in the face of grief.

Can someone explain to me what happened in the end ?
i think it’s a flashback. in the beginning of the movie we’re in the present and it’s the later evening, but the story goes back to when everyone was gathered at Lily’s remembrance service (sorry I’m not sure the correct term) and recounts a moment where Lily’s boyfriend and the ex best friend have a moment where they have feelings for each other but end up not doing anything. From my perspective, both characters wanted that moment but at the same time regret having those feelings at all because they feel they’ve betrayed Lily. And all the scenes where everyone is at the hotel is after the incident hence everyone’s confused, sad, and frustrated moods.
Amazing my god
Sorry, really wanted to like this. All the acting apart from possibly one girl (not the lead; character "Edith"?) and the main guy were very shaky/not believable/seemed very forced. This reminded me of a Chinese/Asian attempt at a version of "Metropolitan" (1990), with the visuals, opulence, beautiful and privileged young people who think they are more mature than they are... just no substance.
