Nice catch man! I've caught a few decent bucket mouths close to the bridge pilings, but I've seen some dudes land some really nice stripers there. Hoping to take the boat to the other side of the dam this weekend. Good to see the fish are still really active. Props on the editing skills too 👏
How about the fishing pressure there? Is it easy to catch fish there? It’s 60 miles away from me. I want to go there but am afraid of getting nothing. Thanks.
There's a fair amount of pressure at Oxford, especially for the spot right next to the heavy flow of water at the base of dam where I caught the striper, BUT I've caught fish there pretty consistently just using a night crawler whacky rigged, almost anywhere along the shore where it's deep enough for fish to be. Usually good for at least a spotted bass or two, not always huge. Very snaggy, bring extra hooks. I suggest straight mono or fluoro, no leader, you'll lose it. Plus, the other side can be fished. You can stand on that concrete block pictured in the thumb nail, far side, and with a simple hook, worm and bobber 3-4' up, you can catch fish (have to lift them 15'). Overall, I catch at least one fish 80% of the time, blanked once ever 4-5 trips. Or go for big cats: large hook baited with raw chicken soaked in anything with sugar, just let it sit out there and plan to hang out. The only real variable is the water flow, it can go from Niagara Falls to barley any flow, which can really slow the bite for all except cats. Thanks for watching!
Yes, it just depends when you go. You need some moving water near shore for the fish to be active, but the volume of water flow can fluctuate dramatically from hour to hour. It's hit or miss. Best in Spring or Fall. Thanks for watching!
Not sure, haven't been there in a few months, honestly, but Oxford rarely disappoints. The key thing is the water flow; more flow, more fish, but it's unpredictable and high flow can happen at any time, in seconds. thanks for watching!
Interesting question. You mean, turbine wheels turned by a dam? Never fished near those, but there would be oxygen pushed through the water column, lots of opportunities for bait fish suspended or deep, with the bigger predators stacking in then nearby cross currents, to pick off weak bait fish. Great question!
I throw just about where he threw the bed rig, right after that little wall where the water isn’t moving, the stripers will chill right on the other side and wait for the baitfish
Hey. That's the Catawba, at Oxford Dam, Lake Hickory is above. It has public access on both sides. It's on NC Highway 16 (can't miss it from the road), on the other side and just downstream is River Bend Park (tried there also, but it was shallower, was not as good shore-wise, for me). Thanks for watching.
That is so true. That's why I don't measure them, usually don't even take a weight, just put them right back in and see if they look healthy in the water, if so, release; if not, keep. thanks for watching!
Nice mixed species session Todd! Sweet looking striper man. That was a cool dam too!
Thanks so much man, yeah, it was blast, thanks for watching!
When i was a kid, my dad use to pull out 30+ pounders from that same spot.
Very nice, Jonathan. I'm sure that water can still hold some big fish. Thanks for watching!
Great fish beautiful fish and awesome fight man keep coming out hope we can fish for them one day
Thanks, Chris, and thanks for watching. That would be great!
Wow on a Ned rig?! Lol, that's awesome!
haha, isn't that crazy? Thanks for watching!

@@YFAwithTodd Very informative. Thanks !
Hi, is this still a good spot? I hear people say it fell off a lot.

@@YFAwithTodd ok thanks!
Is it still eating over there...

Really wanted to try it out... See if they got crappie or white bass or white perch..
Okay question ho do you catfish or striper fish when the wheels are on at the dam? Wondering cause of the current near the dam

Is that Lake Normie or Mt. Island? Seems below the dam. Unless it’s below the upper Catawba?

@@YFAwithTodd I’ll have to check it out!
How many they will let you keep home a day
My stomping grounds! Fish there every other weekend. But in a kayak! I bass fish!
Oh nice! Thanks for watching!
You catch any Striper?
Thats the spot
Thanks for watching!
Stripers fight so hard release so much lactic acid they need to be kept fish is emaciated🙃

Any other fish other than striper at Oxford dam
@@vuthtuth1130 Yup. Walleye, white perch, spotted bass and some big cats - blues and channel.
Just glad this isn't click bait. Beautiful fish though.
Thanks so much; fun striper indeed, glad you enjoyed!
Western NC striped bass don't play.
This fall I'm hoping to land one of the monster stripers in Lake Hickory. Thanks for watching!
