This movie CHANGED me. The energy is magical. If I could pick one movie to watch forever this would be it.
would you say it's..... incendiary?
hey ! you just spoked my words
Me too! Cameron really brings out the magic with the music we lived thru
Your aura, it’s purple!
Agreed.
“If you ever get lonely, just go to the record store, and visit your Friends “
🥰🥰🥰
So good that should have been mine!
Why wasn’t Dave Marsh the editor of Creem, like real life?
He was Lester’s editor.
So true, & the magic lives on! xoxox
A really underrated scene in this movie is when Russell Hammond snatches the phone from William's hands, to talk to his mother, and the shift from his "I'm a rockstar" mode to his "Yes, ma'am" mode while she delivers a stern lecture to bring his ego down a few notches
😂
"Your mom kinda freaked me out..."
RIP Philip Seymour Hoffman, He and Frances McDormand had smaller roles but they were unforgettable in that movie.
Hoffman was amazing in every roll he played in.
Yes, McDormand was magic in that movie.
Don't take drugs!
The mom in the movie was great. She was perfect.
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
"Rockstars have kidnapped my son"
**takes notes**
Don’t take drugs 🤪
The scene where Penny is flying home on the plane and starts to realize something is missing. Only to see William is still right there for her, brings me to tears. Along with that incredible piece of score by Nancy Wilson.
I cry every single time!
shout out to our girlS Nancy Wilson n Ann heyyyyy love love GOTTA HAVE;;; HEART;;;
I always interpreted it as her remembering he told her he loved her during her overdose
@@coco-rc9uv yep
Nancy Wilson is the bomb.....love her🎭🎭🎵🎶🎼🎶🎵🎶🎼
I don’t watch this movie, I marinate in it. It brings me so much joy.
Yes!!! Exactly! What a perfect way of putting it, thank you xx
Same 😍
That's okay, I'm easy to forget........I"M ONLY THE F**CKING LEAD SINGER.....
"Don't you see, man?
The T-shirt is 'everything!'"
...Seriously, where's Jason Lee?
@@brandonw7506 good question!
@@Sindollx666x, he's just one of the out of focus guys.
Good Lord, Kate Hudson still as magical as she was 20 years ago.
She looks better now than then.
She sells healthy lifestyle books IIRC. She is a good poster girl for her own business, I'd say. Seems it works well.
But of Course!! The girl is the daughter of Goldie!!! They’ll Never get old !!✌️❤️
Patrick Fugit was a great find for this roll, he nailed that part! His youthful innocence at age 16 while making this movie was key. Cameron Crowe is genius.
Yes! He was so wonderful ♥️♥️♥️♥️
Completely agree
Even Michael Angarano who played the younger William at the start of the movie was a great find and he went on to do some good stuff
Stillwater remains one of the best "fictional" bands of all time. Fever Dog!
A band named Stillwater existed. They were from Georgia. Crowe had to clear with them that he was using their name. They agreed after reading the script.
To me, it's #01. Those fictional bands or singers with an authentic feel are super rare. Jackson Maine in A Star is Born is another one.
I live in Stillwater.
@@SCharlesDennicon and the wonders from that thing you do !
Damn straight! Who wrote that, Peter Frampton, Nancy Wilson?
The bus ride and Elton John, a great scene, 70's music...
Love that scene!
Goosebumps every time...pure movie magic
OMG !! The best!
I always wonder if the Elton/Bernie song 'Holiday Inn', also from the 'Madman' album, was considered for the scene that featured 'Tiny Dancer' as the lyrics seem even more appropriate to the band and their situation and the big chorus in the song would've achieved the same effect. If you don't know it, check it out.
Lancer____ Dog actually the scene where penny lane is dancing on the stage is one of the best ones in the movie
"Hey I met you. You are not cool!" Will always be one of Philip Seymour Hoffman's best lines in a movie...
“So you’re the kid who’s been sending me those articles from the school newspaper... “
My fav line ever. 😊
The best
Better than - 'I'm always home! I'm uncool!' ?? 'Cause I think that's a much better line.
@@freddybeer I agree with you. That exchange. It just touches something so real man. Fucking gold
Kate Hudson still looks perfect. I just fell in love all over again 😍
She looks even more beautiful
@@Katy-sh3ru even more.
Oh yeah! She's a vision in this movie!
I love her! She’s my age, she’s just 2 weeks older than me, but I absolutely loved her as Penny Lane. It was really the first movie I can recall seeing of hers and though I’m straight, I definitely looked up to Kate and admired her. She’s so very cool and even more beautiful now at 41!
Seriously. Hooooow is that possible?!
Such a fun commentary. I find “Almost Famous” one of the most rewatchable films of all-time.
Def one of those films I turn on whenever I need to lift my spirits or just want to have something playing in the background
Agreed
Me too! One of the greatest movies I've ever seen.
Me 2
Agreed. ❤️
Seeing Russell Hammond with no facial hair and short hair is freaking me out
Seeing the kid with a beard is freaking me out
The fact Kate Hudson looks even more beautiful now is freaking me out.
I don’t think there’s a better actress with her beauty in the world. That woman was made from stardust.
called implants
Kurt Russell is her father
CAMERON!! Please release the 4-1/2 hour version of the movie!!!🙏🙏🙏
Oh Definitely Yes!!! Please!!✌️
Almost Famous, Dazed and Confused, Detroit Rock City. I felt like I grew up in the 70s even though I was a 90s kid. Thanks for these movies that shared the Wonders of the 70s and that decade is completely TIMELESS.
Detroit Rock City is so underrated! I'm gonna be doing a movie reviee on it very soon on my Wolfgame Music & Video channel
Same same same. !! Alll my fave movies
Totally
Does anybody know more movies like that??? Because they’re the best
First time I saw this wonderful film was right after touring the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with my sister. We both fell in love with this film. My sister was killed 8 years ago, but when I watch the Tiny Dancer scene, I can feel her smiling next to me. Music from my youth.
I’m sorry for your loss
I am so sorry for your loss. This is one of my all-time favourite movies and always makes me feel good and hopeful when I'm going through a hard time. I'm glad that you and your sister were able to share it with each other.
Im sorry for your loss, brother. "I need to go home... You ARE home"
Beautiful words.
Sorry you lost her, but thnx for posting. It’s a great memory to have.
“It’s all happening!!” This is one of my most favorite movies of all time. It’s magic.
"i need to get home" "You are home"
Amazing that line was improvised by Kate. Says so much.
@@Madman007 wow that line was improvised? That is One of my favorite scenes in a movie of all time
Just reading that line and remembering the scene makes me tear up.
@@vmoonbeam6571 mine too
"Your looks have become a problem!!" Jason Lee was perfect
Love that man I DO really I love his face its great ;
Best Rock movie of all time. My favorite line is "I was there". Also when William ask Russell what do you like most about music and his response is "Everything".
To begin with...
My favorite one is when Penny Lane says to William "you are at home" with tiny dancer playing.
After spinal tap of course 😉
what’s the “i was there” from?
@@saracarney23 William talking (arguing/fighting, more like...) w/ Penny in the "What kind of beer?" scene...
There's no other movie like it. Every time I watch it, it's like going back to something both exciting and comforting. You just want to spend more and more time with those characters. It still holds up incredibly well.
One of my top-five movies of all time. It's truly a masterpiece.
I remember getting in some serious shit with my old man over ordering this movie on PPV 4-5 times... he was so pissed... 1 of my all time favorite movies.. plus the original songs that were written are still on a playlist i listen too..
The Tiny Dancer scene always makes me cry. It's the way it was back then. I feel nostalgic.
Well, it’s Crowe’s story to tell, but I’m more inclined to something a tad more on the 1970s side of things :
Seals & Crofts
The Carpenters
Carly Simon
Three Dog Night
Dr. Hook
@@rokyericksonroks People don't mention them a lot, but it's a good list! Tiny Dancer was never a popular song back then. But the movie made it so.
@@JeanBakula What?? Tiny Dancer was so a popular song then where I lived at least. When it came on in the movie I welled up just thinking about my own experiences when it was playing on the radio. One of those songs you knew all the words of.
@@gideonharris1493 I love the song. I lived near New York then, and other EJ songs got a lot more play on the radio. It probably does matter where you were. Any song used like that in a movie gets more popular.
@@JeanBakula Ok. I understand then we are on the other side of the globe so Ok. It was popular here and was well played like Your Song which also wasn't a major chart topper but everyone knew it because it was played often. ✌
"One day...you'll be cool." 20 years later and I still love that quote. That and... "I dig music..." :-). Almost Famous
Kate Hudson made me fall in love with her in every scene. Amazing performance.
Almost Famous captures the love fans have for music. What it means to them and how important it is for them. It’s that rare movie that resonates with music lovers everywhere.
I’m kinda friends
with my favorite band. This movie is dead on. Everything is captured perfectly. It’s really remarkable how these scenarios are played out.
What a great way to describe it, so true ❤
" The only true currency in this bankrupt world is what you share with someone else when youre uncool"
This is my favorite quote of any movie. So accurate, especially for a Rush fan!
“Tell him it’s a think-piece... (evil chuckle) he’ll wet himself!”
I worked in newspapers for 27 years, and after this movie, we used "think piece" to describe an offbeat story a thousand times
William was the cutest kid. He was perfect for that part.
Cameron is a genius at finding the emotional core of a song and using the music as a window into the soul of a character in a scene. From Led Zeppelin in Fast Times, to Free Falling in Jerry McGuire to Tiny Dancer in Almost Famous. The song becomes the through-line and emotional tapestry of the scene the actors paint across. Crowe main lines the emotional power of music in his films, and I am always amazed and enthralled with each melodic moment, from joy to pain. Song and film as one.
this is one of the few films i'm obsessed with. i've watched it a hundred times. a friend even gave me the script. thank you for a wonderful movie! incendiary!
I'm incendiary too, man :)
Exactly! Me too!
Same
Jason Lee just owned that role so much. Fantastic casting for sure.
Crazy
Man, I love Cameron Crowe.
Every movie is a gem.
Especially, this one.
This movie was so on point, it's heart breaking if you've been around it.
It is - I lived it! ~
TheJackflash85 please share!!!
1000%
As someone that also has lived in and around the industry I can vouch as well. In fact that is what me this movie so stunning for me. For the 1st time in a rock and roll music movie I could relate to the situations .
it is heart breaking not being around as well.. if I could go back in time that would be it
Tears coming down as they talk about Phillip Seymour Hoffman.
Wish he was still with us.
"You ARE home". That was the first time in this movie that made my lower lip tremble. It was like Cameron had lifted something directly from my life. Turns out it was from Kate's perspective. I had gone to a party at a new girlfriend's house around a whole new group of people I didn't know very well. I might have smoked a little too much and said "I have to go home", and when my girlfriend said that, it was like I had found a new family from then on. A family that understood me. Peace!
A very powerful scene. Many of us found our family in Music and the friends we shared it with. It was a great time to be alive.
I can relate. I've been in a similar situation myself
It's all happening 😍
The tiny dancer scene is my favorite movie scene of all time! I had my own personal version of this scene 8 years ago. I was out in Wyoming on a field expedition, and we were coming back from the bar with a van full of people and somebody played the song and the whole van was singing it. Definitely one of my favorite life moments!
I was in a rock and roll band and on the road for 15 yrs. I lived so much of this movie it is right on point!
So did I, literally..I was living a lot of the things as well, playing in a band, meeting groupies, smoking, partying, and especially listening rock music, all the bands from soundtrack are the ones i loved, grew up on..That's a movie for life!!
Ah ha, say you... We are brothers in arms from the road! peace my friend - forever rock and roll!@@ThiagodMoraes
Philip Seymour Hoffman's role as Lester Bangs was my favorite. Being familiar with the music scene at that time, his rant about rock's renaissance period being "over" was spot on. Great and memorable classic to see over again. Hey, it's about music!
Russell Hammond & Penny Lane have aged very well!
Penny lane looks great! I mean, it’s help with Botox and fillers but that’s okay. Nothing wrong with that!
👏🏾❤️👏🏾
I think Patrick is hot here
I am so sorry for the loss you suffered. I hope your life is uplifted now. Blessings.
True
R.I.P. Phillip Seymour Hoffman, best thing about this film.
This and " That Thing You Do" , great double feature.
The Mona Lisa and the mad hatters part is so epic. One of my top 5 films of all time
I still cry watching that scene and have probably seen the movie more than a hundred times. Literally.
This was my favorite movie as a teenager. Years later I became a touring musician and one day found myself watching this while on the tour bus. It was a great moment.
I here Elton John sing "TINY DANCER" and I'm on the bus singing my heart out.
@thelilacmum, I've always loved and sung "Tiny Dancer" since long before it was in vogue. BTW, I love lilacs too. 30-some years ago, when i bought my 2nd house on a new, almost tree-less dead-end street, I dug up and replanted 3ea, 4'-5' lilacs from an abandoned farm house. They're now 15' tall and wide, even with annual pruning and cut backs. 2 weeks of glory in May and the rest of the year irrepressible shoot-sprouting monsters.
I really never listened much to tiny dancer until that scene
What a beautiful reunion! Almost famous is my favorite movie. Such a gem. Long live rock & cinema!
I've lost count how many times I've watched Almost Famous. That was a magical era.
One of my 123 favourite movies! (Over 60, seen a LOT). When they sing TINY DANCER in the bus, Penny asks Patrick what is worrying him and he says "I have to go home!" and Kate answers "You are home." I am crying, every time. A magic moment.
I am 63 and this is my favourite movie of all time. I have watched it so many times…..reminds me of everything in the 70s …was a good time…
I want to cry just thinking about how amazing this movie is. It’s one of those movies that I only watch once in a great while, because I never want to spoil the magic of it ✨💫⚡️💫✨
me tooo, my favorite movies are the ones that i don´t watch very often.
This is my favorite movie as well. I just watched it again last night. I limit myself maybe watch it once a year. I love this movie so much !!!
I watch it maybe once a year.
The Tiny Dancer scene was everything!
So glad Cameron saw that and did the two-day version even though he said they paid the price later. They now know it was so worth it!
I lived in Ocean Beach when this was filmed. My 1970 VW van was hired for the set of the parking lot for the 1st concert scene. If you watch the movie, you’ll see the van (and me in the passenger seat). We drove right behind the mother’s car when the kid/reporter was getting dropped off. The tour bus driver in the movie drove my VW for the shot. I had a great conversation with him during the filming. He owned the bus company that Hollywood hired for filming scenes. The movie Speed was filmed with his busses. It was a really cool experience. We filmed at the San Diego sports arena for a couple nights. I was in my early twenties at the time. Great memories!
Very cool. I'll look for the van next time I watch the film. I lived in San Diego County in the late 60's / early 70s, and you'd always see a VW bus or two at Carlsbad or Oceanside beaches.
I love that Cameron Crowe is sitting casually with flowers while speaking of music and cinema.💕
This movie captures a moment in time like no other!
You have a message from your mother... she's a handful... she freaked me out. 🤣
That's Eric Stonestreet (Cam from Modern Family)
"She means well."
"Tell her to stop"
"I love your movie." -p.s.hoffman. BAWLING.
Kate: "You ARE home."
💗💗💗
This is easily my #1 favorite movie ever. Cameron captured it all so perfectly. It is indeed magical.
I’m Kate Hudson’s age and I remember this movie coming out right around the time I graduated from High School. I always wanted to be a writer. This movie was a huge inspiration for me. I did go on to write and was published in Record Collector News, an international publication anyone can find at pretty much any music shop. That was a big moment for me and I have Cameron Crowe to thank. Almost Famous remains to be in my top 10 favorite movies of all time. I remember being 18 and getting to spend time with a legit band. I ended up writing lyrics for them and even sang into a microphone for the first time with them. They’ll always remind me of Still Water from Almost Famous. The movie brings back so many memories for me. It’s hard to believe so much time has passed since it was released back in 1997, if memory serves. Thank you so much for posting this! It’s always great to see the cast and where they all are now. I’ll always love Kate Hudson. She really owned the role of “Penny Lane” and much of my life experiences from that time on working with bands, becoming a band photographer and published writer and really being inside that world, will always remind me of this great film that changed my life!
🌹
your so cool :)
So fun to go back and hear about making the movie. The movie is timeless and I love it.
This will always be my favorite movie of all-time. Nothing else compares to this film. Absolutely beautiful and touching. All of it. As everyone else has said, it's just pure magic.
One of the best movies ever made. A giant long love letter to rock music and the people who love it.
When they join together for Tiny Dancer...........it gets me EVERY time.
:)
This movie is timeless
My favorite movie, it truly is a masterpiece. Every piece of music was perfect for every scene. I am a musician myself and would loved to have grown up in those times. What do I love about this movie...Everything.
Really hard to believe that it's been 20 years since this movie came out🤯 Loved it then and still love it!❤ So sad that we lost Phillip, he was such a dynamic artist. Gone too soon😢
What a great movie. Almost Perfect as one critic said. Listening to these four brings back all the amazing parts of the movie. It sums up the baby boomer years in so many good ways!!!
This was so incredibly fun to watch. I have tiny dancer as my ring tone 😂 all that was missing was jason lee. Rip- Phil Hoffman
I am a golden God! No wait, I got it. I dig music! I'm on drugs!
I just finished rewatching it and I wanted to search for something more on here - and there you go, just a roundtable uploaded the same day ❤️
Words can't describe what this movie did to me. Just one of the most beautiful movies of all time!
I was sooo in love with Patrick Fugit, he has (along with the film) a special place in my heart
Almost Famous is one of the greatest films ever made... culturally significant and emotionally deep, it is an homage to rock music in the 70s and budding rock bands trying to succeed and find a meaning and place for themselves back in the day... with phenomenal portrayal of each of the characters... an absolute masterpiece that takes me back to a totally diff phase whenever I watch it
"What Kind of Beer" is quite literally - the greatest human performance ever recorded. In that moment Kate was amazing.
I watch this regularly. From my days of writing a crummy fanzine that no one read (band interviews, record reviews, live show reviews), it certainly felt like I was part of something. Probably wasn't but maybe was in a very small way. I see a lot of what I had thought I was going through in this movie but with a lot less success than Cameron Crowe had. This movie is magic and just a wonderful film from start to finish.
It is one of my all time favorite movies. I saw the musical in San Diego last year and it exceeded my expectations. It too was spectacular. I hope the rest of the world gets to experience it.
Just the best movie ever. It's so surreal. Amazing work to everyone involved in creating this masterpiece.
In my top 5 favorite movies, ever. IMO this movie was perfect in every way - casting, story, music. It captured the time, exactly as I remember it, as I am the same age as Cameron Crowe. I watch it frequently and never tire of it. Love seeing and hearing their recollections...
epic movie and reunion!
This movie touches me like no other. It's my favorite for so many reasons. Thanks for this little reunion. For a fan who absolutely loves this film, it is greatly appreciated that you all put this together.
I was smiling during the whole video, one hour of them talking about this masterpiece has brought joy to my soul. Thank you very much :')
One of my favorite movies ever 😍
My favorite movie of all time..
I still cannot hear Tiny Dancer without thinking of this scene in the movie… I’m 56… I’ve seen a lot of movies… there are few songs that can take me back to a scene 20 years ago!!! It’s on my favourites playlist!!!!
I miss Philip Seymour Hoffman so much! He was a great actor.
I was fortunate to have a "bus" moment with a band after this movie came out. True to form everyone on the bus started to sing - band members; crew and guests. I can remember grinning like an idiot and thinking about this movie. It was something I'll never forget. . .
One of the biggest reasons I became a journalist. I love the magic of the director's cut. This film is as nostalgiac as Stand By Me.
ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS MOVIE!!! ......"I AM A GOLDEN GOD!".....AWWW......I HURT THE FLOWER.....🌹
“ I never said that..wait....did I?”
Watched this for the first time today, I was blown away. It felt like literal magic.
My favorite movie! In fact, I watched it again last night. It is so hard to believe it has been 20 years.
Watching this was like seeing family, this movie touched my life in many ways, the actors, music and the story was timeless. Thank to you all!
If there's a 4 and a half hours version of this film it has to get released !!!
"I'm tired, I'm retired... you know I'm tired..." That Quaalude OD scene where William watches Penny get her stomach pumped, then "My Cherie Amour" plays while he looks lovingly at her. Heaven's sake, Goddess bless Lady Goodman!
A great lesson for any teen, young adult who's watches the movie! Also, about giving your heart, body and soul at a young age to a man, especially one who is much older. It doesn't "lecture", it just shows the truth.
Love this! Almost Famous is one of those films that I've returned to again and again throughout my life; it's a little like going home....
If you're reading this right now, please just take 30 seconds, close your eyes and remember Phil Hoffman and how much you loved him and how special he was and how much he's missed ❤
At 61 now, this is the sound-track of my life and no finer portrayal of that emotional musical experience, the experience of a generation, has ever been brought to cinema. My attention span isn't what it used to be, perhaps owing to the 70's, and then some, but I watched every second of this joyous reunion, hanging on every word. I had cramps in my cheeks smiling so hard, laughing and crying with you through your shared moments. Thank you all! To Stillwater, The Band-Aids, The Budding Journalists, The Uncool, and uncredited until recently from another Cameron Crow remembrance, Gregg Allman, for returning your interview tapes giving rise to this cultural icon of a film years later!
Cameron Crowe and cast, you are indelibly imprinted on us, the fans of the greatest music generation. Your love story to music and how it moves us will live forever.
RIP Phillip Seymore Hoffman and Gregg Allman.
I can watch Almost Famous every single day and feel just as thoroughly entertained as the first time. Perfect movie.
