Modern SC ... legitimate use of a sockpuppet in a cast. This is right up there with Artosis being haunted by Snow across a series of games. Who would've called this when we were kids? I love it.
Game 4 explained: The reason why effort had his 3rd hatchery in his main is because he thought mini had a 9-gateway build based on the scout timing of mini's probe. Since his first overlord did not see a gateway where it is supposed to be at the natural of 11 O'clock, he sent his overlord to 7 without looking further. Therefore, effort just assumed that mini was located at 5, which is why he took his drone that was sent to 3 O'clock for expansion back to his base. This is because it is difficult to fend off the expected zealot push when the protoss base is so close. However, mini's base was at 11 and by the time effort realized what was going on it was already too late to get his 3rd hatchery up elsewhere. I just wanted to point this out since Tastosis didn't mention it. Effort did the best that he could in all 4 matches. It was just that mini did better.
its Effort's first reactive decision in the first game that signaled to everyone he'd decided not to play. why rush 8 zerlings just to chase a probe around base? Why not 12, why not 20? He was playing like an invalid. All he had to do was move his mouse to the map screen and click his lings toward enemy base like every other player had done since 1997 for free first game win, and he couldn't even do that. I knew at that point he'd lost the match. Everyone in the audience groaned. 'oh dear, Effort's been paid to lose' Rather sad, i was hoping he would try win this ASL.
@plasmaastronaut That was also well planned by mini. Usually, when Zerg starts with pool-gas build, Zerg players consider it vital that they cut off the first scouting probe rather than going straight for the enemy base. This is because most pro-level Zergs just assume that sending their lings to protoss base is meaningless since by the time the lings get there, a cannon should be already up when the protoss goes for the forge-expansion build. The map for the first match 'invader' is a map where it is difficult to use a gateway start build because the natural has two paths. Since the gateway build is out of the option effort just assumed that there would be a cannon ready by the time his lings get there and chose to cut off mini's probe as quickly as possible. Why is it so important to cut off the scouting probe? Because it is important to hide what the Zerg wants to do after the pool-gas start. Hydralisk, mutas or lurkers, ling all-in... The protoss player is forced to take all of this into consideration when their scouting probe is lost too soon, giving Zerg the upper hand to carry out the game however it wants to. However, mini took advantage of this and decided to go for straight nexus and buy himself the time needed to get his cannons ready with his scouting probe. This is some bad-ass play pulled off by mini and not something effort should be blamed for.
@@plasmaastronaut In game 1 there is no way he'd get a "free win" since Mini had perfect information, and still went for Nexus first, which means he had the timing perfectly mapped. Instead, Effort waited to have zergling speed to run by the cannons, taking advantage of the 2nd ramp. Which was totally shut down by Mini's preemptive cannon in the main. In fact Mini played very carefully, and smacked down all Effort's aggression. I think that Soulkey will have a better shot simply by having more range, but I still favor Mini.

Yeah, that really seems to be the crux of the match-up. Totally agree. He is my favorite zerg and I don't think the 4-0 score tells the entire story of this match. I thought Effort played really well, especially in the first two games.
PvZ is bad against Zerg if the game drags out, that's why it's very usual for Zerg to go aggressive early and control the match from there. While effort is a great player against P, I believe mini perfected the early game so he wouldn't die to all-ins and that's apparent to this match.

+1 just finishing in the last game... WIRE-THIN there, quite important and impactful I'd argue if this were a closer game there. You can keep watching the raiding units when the observer cheques them... and NOTHING, but you notices just after it dies! (1:32:20) - When the Fleshy Protoss dies to the Mechanical Protoss.
Excellent translation. The Korean commentators are so good at hyping it up, I wish could watch it with them. Sorry Tastosis, your passion is still appreciated 🙏
Puppet tasteless is awesome. I was really missing him... and hope that he'll be around in future seasons... but puppet tasteless made my whole evening better. :D

just finished the series! Whoa... Mini the new protoss bonjwa?? those builds were cleaaan, man. Super optimized. A little more or a little less in either direction could've ended in disaster. Immaculate. Glad we don't have a zvz final :)
@@henrytovarb950 oh definitely. I was half joking about the bonjwa part but he is super impressive right now. Soulkey has a hell of a series ahead of him.
There has not been a Protoss bonjwa thus far, the closest I think was Jangbi but Blizzard shamefully ended OSL before he got the chance for a third OSL title.
Yeah I guess that the unrelenting attacks from Mini just kept Effort from upgrading it's units. Effort was holding out for a while but that came at the cost of his upgrades
Zealots 2+1 armor makes zealots too tanky against a 0/0 hydra. It would take about 30-40 shots from a hydra to kill a single zealot with no shields and full life.
@@Rockboygg Yes, lings are completely useless against 2 armor zealots with 1 attack. Get 2 shottet and deal no damage. Dragoons also become very tanky vs the hydras when the upgrade advatange is this severe
The interview, Caster Park said that Mini already has 2 ASL trophies? That ain't true. He has 1 ASL trophy and 2 other silver medals. Was it a mistranslation?
Awesome series and great casting! When Mini loses his base because of the lurker egg on the north ramp, could he have stormed the egg to kill it and save his base? (Remember stormegg from a few seasons back)
Whom do we need to ask or what do we need to do to get anti-spoiler length added to the end of videos. SPOILERS AHEAD Oh cool, Mini is up 2-0 and there are fewer than 40 minutes left in the video (including winner's interview). I wonder who wins the series and what the final score is. And it's not even something you can avoid, necessarily. It's right there on the thumbnail, so unless you can induce selective amnesia, there isn't much you can do to keep up any suspense. People used to do this all the time with Starleague casts; why can't we do it now?
Wow mini just dropped a steamer into efforts sock. This one had to hurt. I'm surprised with efforts gameplan. I was expecting more 9 pool speed feints to kinda keep mini honest while taking an eco advantage... ya know like 9pool speed but only make 6-8 lings then go for a 3rd and get a lot of sunkens. I think that's the style that will work best against mini.
Just some feedback on the stream: these two Ro4 vods have had very low game volume and artosis's microphone volume seems to be peaking, tasteless mic is perfect though
@@utarian7 nah cause what im talking about is going a ling rush and 2 base lurker all in while making mistakes before interacting with mini. Unless you wanna say he got tilted after mini won 2 0
I wonder if they could do something in between a pro house and isolated living. I had a classmate in grade school who grew up in a cohousing community where everyone owned their own condo but there was also a shared farmhouse, garden, workshop, and guest house as communal space. A Starcraft focused cohousing community would probably work pretty well. Everyone could have their own private residence but also have a communal LAN space.

- For Invader and Apocalypse Mini got the best and effOrt the worst spawn locations: combined scores are 20-7 against 6-18. Mini did however take the first win spawning at 11 o'clock on Polypoid. The spawn is now 1-5, still the worst across all maps.
- Perhaps the most interesting thing is that in PvZ, long games favour Z which wasn't the case season 12. This season the average P win is at 12:02 and average Z win at 14:50. Almost a 3 minute descrepancy, which is very different from season 12's slightly above 10 seconds descrepancy in the other direction.
*[Predictions for the Finals]*
Just for the fun of it, based on both the data and my gut feeling.
[Map Order, SoulKey going first]
Invader
Apocalypse
Neo Dark Origin
Tempest
Retro
Polypoid
La Campanella
[Results]
Invader: SoulKey wins easily if he spawns at 11 o'clock, otherwise 50-50
Apocalypse: Mini wins unless SoulKey spawns at 12, otherwise 50-50
Neo Dark Origin: one of them will cheese and lose
Tempest: spawn location determines winner 5 >> 7 > 1 > 11
Retro: even though Mini performed a miracle today, SoulKey takes this. If however Mini does take Retro, he takes the entire series.
Polypoid: Mini takes this unless he spawns at 11
La Campanella: SoulKey takes this map.
Final Result: 4-3 to SoulKey (4.3 to 2.7)
Dude thanks for sharing these numbers. I hope you are right and we will have 7 games in the final
Those are some comprehensive statistics, nice job!
it's interesting, but if mini shows the form he showed this match, soulkey has no chance
@@szmike Yeah, I went mostly by just the map statistics so what players play are not really accounted for.
Spoiler Alert::
Mini won 4-0 and still thrashed around in his chair like 3 times lol. Love it
+1 just finishing in the last game...
I never watch these games on my phone but as soon as I saw the thumbnail..... jeez tasteless you look sick.
Excellent translation. The Korean commentators are so good at hyping it up, I wish could watch it with them. Sorry Tastosis, your passion is still appreciated 🙏
Every VOD we are one step closer to AI Tasteless
Puppet tasteless is awesome. I was really missing him... and hope that he'll be around in future seasons... but puppet tasteless made my whole evening better. :D
They actually turned him into a puppet. Absolute madmen. Been an amazing season!
I love the level of detail to put the beard and headset on sock tasteless
Would love to see small 1st person segments in these broadcasts. Both players had well over 400 APM for longer periods of time and it'd be fun to watch that.
They don't control the cameras, and the spectator system doesn't let them view the games in first person.
ARTOSIS! Omg the sock puppet Tasteless 😂😂😂
Grats on the weight loss tasteless ❤
I can only hope Artosis did not tell Tasteless about this and he finds out by watching the video.
These guys are fighting on two fronts the way other players do on one. Amazing
TASTELESS HAHAHA :D I love these guys!
These thumbnails are killing me, so freaking funny!
just finished the series! Whoa... Mini the new protoss bonjwa?? those builds were cleaaan, man. Super optimized. A little more or a little less in either direction could've ended in disaster. Immaculate. Glad we don't have a zvz final :)
He didn't do a single Proxy Gate, probably what was holding him back lol
To me, Mini is the best toss in the ASL era. Bonjwa sounds a bit too far yet, but he is the only one toss with the potential for it
@@henrytovarb950 oh definitely.
@@HasekuraIsuna because Larva flashbacks. But since effort went all aggressive the whole match, it actually worked for him.
NOW THIS IS PRODUCTION VALUE! THIS IS WHAT MY PATREON MONEY GOES TO AND ITS WORTH EVERY CANADIAN LOONEY
goated - internet historians will refer back to this video
In that game 2 the upgrade advantage for protoss was crazy. 1 attack 2 armor protoss vs 0-0 Zerg is just unfair
Yeah I guess that the unrelenting attacks from Mini just kept Effort from upgrading it's units.
Effort was holding out for a while but that came at the cost of his upgrades
@@lavq7000 Yeah he killed the evo chamber while it presumably was upgrading the +1 range attack as well
Zealots 2+1 armor makes zealots too tanky against a 0/0 hydra.
I'm so happy you actually brought out the sock puppet.
Haha. He drew a beard and put a headset on the tasteless puppet! Nice callback from the last video.
Love how Tasteless trimmed his beard! Really neat.
I'm shocked how well the winner played... I feel bad for the other player in the finals. I think they may be one-sided.
Awesome series and great casting!
When Mini loses his base because of the lurker egg on the north ramp, could he have stormed the egg to kill it and save his base? (Remember stormegg from a few seasons back)
Tasteless looking fresher than ever. I love the new look!
Whom do we need to ask or what do we need to do to get anti-spoiler length added to the end of videos. SPOILERS AHEAD
Oh cool, Mini is up 2-0 and there are fewer than 40 minutes left in the video (including winner's interview).
Sockless is amazing
Thank you for this
Brilliant
Oh my God that puppet Tasteless is 10/10. Fantastic! :)
Lmao. The sock puppet is amazing. I love you guys.
1:13:15 btw isn't Efforts spawn 8 o clock? with the direct corner being technically 7 30? idk lol
the interpretation is on point. it feels way more engaging than trying to 1:1 translate the niche stuff
That's flash. he's microing against snow while using a sock puppet to cast the semi finals
Excellent games baby hell ya that was real good by mini :D
Will be such a fun finals to watch
Instant gold. I'm impressed Artosis used a clean looking sock.
Lmaoooo the sock puppet, yall actually did it
You get an upvote not just cause this is awesome but especially cause of the way artosis manipulates that tasteless sock puppet.
Just some feedback on the stream: these two Ro4 vods have had very low game volume and artosis's microphone volume seems to be peaking, tasteless mic is perfect though
Oh my God, I assumed the puppet would just be in the thumbnail image. Killed me
Artosis is having a hard time nodding his head separately from Tastless lol
No 3rd place match in this season too?
what a perfect concept with the sock puppet lmao 🤣
YESSS the PUPPET! THIS IS WHAT WE PLAY FORRRR!
Mini is the new Protoss saviour.
I love the fast uploads but you know what we've needed for a long time now? anti-spoiler at the end of the video.
Won’t happen, bad for the algorithm. Most people say to use a browser plug-in to hide video length
Tasteless really let himself go. Artosis is basically carrying him in the commentary.
AfreecaTV does other sports?! What do you mean other SPORTS? What is there besides brood war
*Sees VoD length*
Someone's going to have a bad day...
Hello there!
Love the sock puppet. But why doesn't Tasteless have his camera on? :)
Looking good Tasteless!
This new camera angle slims down Tasteles head very nicely
Thanks dan and the other guy
When will the grand final be uploaded to UA-cam, or where can I find out? Thank you
Tasteless's head can finally fit the screen.
Tasteless' plastic surgeon really came through. Congrats on the new look!
"he plays like a pervert" LOLOLOL never more accurate statement
The audio from tasteless is a bit desynced. You can really see it around the 13 minute mark.
12:42 korean cosmetic surgery has gone too far
Effort played well 1st 2 games but last 2 he really channeled his inner B rank zerg powers.
Well, getting destroyed every game has to do something. It also give you less options build order mind game wise...
@@majormononoke8958true but on the other hand, look at Soulkey who did the reverse
Give Mini the credit for making effort look B rank
@@utarian7 nah cause what im talking about is going a ling rush and 2 base lurker all in while making mistakes before interacting with mini. Unless you wanna say he got tilted after mini won 2 0
I wonder if they could do something in between a pro house and isolated living. I had a classmate in grade school who grew up in a cohousing community where everyone owned their own condo but there was also a shared farmhouse, garden, workshop, and guest house as communal space. A Starcraft focused cohousing community would probably work pretty well. Everyone could have their own private residence but also have a communal LAN space.
Finally the tasteless hand puppet!😁
