Orangewood Guitars
hi there.. please tell the factories location of this nodel.. is it in los angeles ???
@@oregonfloor5113 They are made in Indonesia and inspected/setup in California. I'm very curious about Orangewood guitars and doing lots of research on whether getting one or saving for something like a Taylor 214.
The force is strong with this one.
I have an Oliver and love it. This new model sounds great. Orangewood is just a great player friendly company.
Thank you orangewood for making very price accessible guitars. Got mine in the last month and have been inspired. Oliver was great, the Brooklyn really did it for me. Sage may be my next upgrade down the road.
She sounds absolutely amazing, especially at that price point. I really enjoyed your playing in this vid.
Think I’m gonna get myself this for Christmas !🎄 Appreciate your look at this brand. 👍
Middle position sounds perfect, very well balanced.
For the hardware and woods used on this guitar, that is an absolutely amazing price. You've convinced me I need to look into these... Great content as usual brother!
Orangewood Guitars are beautiful and well built, what more could you want and at a great price too!
this guitar sounds amazing. The playing is also very good too! Thanks for the video, helps a lot!
An acoustic guitar like no other? This thing is beautiful
Sounds fantastic. Wonderful playing as always Darrell!
Thanks!
@@DarrellBraunGuitar
I’m going to need you to watch the movie “August Rush” and play some of those guitar solos. Also, you missed an opportunity to play the intro of “I Remember You” by Skid Row. 🤘🏾Rock on, brother!
I would love to learn that first lick...it just sounds amazing and truly made for acoustics...
Great video.
Love your playing and that's a beautiful guitar.
Sound is sweet.
The neck position sounds so subtle and beautiful
Sounds like Page’s guitar on early Zep albums. Very nice tone and pickups. Thanks for sharing, brother!
Really appreciate the demo thanks
Orangewood is one my favorite brands. The value proposition is basically unmatched. I have their Morgan Live in Mahogany and it is a blast to play. I hope to spring for one of the Highland Series one of these days! :)
MAN!!! That thing sounds GORGEOUS!!!! I WANT ONE, I WANT ONE!!! Thanks for putting this up Darrell!!!
don't get suckerd in by this form of advertising
philipb shut up
I can attest. Orangewood guitars are extra special. For the money, they just can't be beat! I bought an Echo Live over a year ago, and I play it all the time. It's a winner!
The control you were using isn’t for a bridge or neck position. It’s a blend between the L.R. Baggs Element undersaddle piezo and the Tru-Mic microphone that’s on the soundboard. When you roll it all the way back towards the bridge it’s using only the Element, when rolled towards the neck all the way it’s using only the microphone.
sweet sound. Thanks for the video.
That guitar looks and sounds amazing.
However, you make everything that you play sound amazing, so it's hard to tell :)
Great review as always.
I just received my Hudson live today been messing with it for an hour or so what a great playing and sounding guitar satin finish on the neck is a lil sticky which will be easily remedied and strings could use a lil lube another easy fix I am very pleased with this thing well worth the money fit and finish is excellent set up right out the box and was still in tune deff a keeper
Sweet sound, thanks mate!
Sounds great and priced right! God bless and rock on 👍🎸😎
Was just looking at Orangewoods. They're so pretty. I really want one.
In general, I prefer the sound(s) of an acoustic to those from an electric, but they're larger and bulkier than I like as a player, so I have both types. Amplification highlights the differences between the two - each has its weak areas sonically. This Orangewood looks solidly-built, and it sounds great, at least with that preamp. Nice demo, Darrell!
Amazing sounds!
This seems like a really good guitar. Tempting.
I build guitars and its mind boggling that they can make all solid wood with ebony AND with the LR Baggs for that price. The wood would be at least 300
Wow I love it, I wish I would have waited a few months, I pulled the trigger on the Mason live cutaway w/spruce top, it's a nice guitar but having the solid body and the LR Baggs electronics it sounds amazing. I still like the inlays on mine better though. As always your playing is phenomenal.
Amazing demonstrations for the tone and playability man. The guitar itself sounds perfect along with the preamp. It actually sounds like something to rival Taylor made guitars
Yes, the Sage is $645.00 WITHOUT electronics. Conversely, the Sage Live is $945.00. A Sage WITH electronics. Thus, the guitar you beautifully demonstrated was the Sage Live. Good work otherwise. Thank you.
Great review and good playing men 👏🌹🦊
That headstock looks amazing tuners and all. When I get good enough on my cheap guitar I might buy myself one of these.
The crazy thing is I live about 15-20 minutes away from Orangewood, and their guitars are in the hands of one of my favorite Canadians.
Can’t wait to be able to get them outside the US.
Yes! I've whined a bit about your demos of guitars not sounding like a guitar(too much overdrive/distortion/fuzz) and even your "clean" tones sounded overdriven but this is a GUITAR sound! Thanks for this and I'm impressed by your finger-picking, too. Anyway, good channel and nice playing.
I was hoping to see you get the Ava or Hudson since Marty Schwartz got the Sage, but great video, I love Orangewood.
Great tone from a great playing 👍 this guitar looks gorgeous, with herringbones lines. I expect nitrocellulose finish ? I would be interested in a comparison with Ibanez/Yamaha which are in the same range of quality but slightly more expensive , and a comparison with Martin/Taylor of same specs but costing 5 times more. Too bad these Orangewood do not ship to France.
I got this guitar today without the pickup in it and have to say I'm really impressed with it. I can play it as easy as my electric guitars and the action is awesome. I tried some songs I have some issues with my other acoustic and it was so much easier to play. I already tried it recording on one my songs and it sat so well in the mix without any eq adjustments. I want to try it with my regular stings because I find the Ernie balls 80/20 a little bright compared to Phosphor bronze. I think this company is legit and considering the price I paid $580 a hell of a bargin. Anyone got any questions just ask me be glad to try to help. Also I've been playing over 30 years and done tons of studio work so I'm not just a beginner.
How would you compare this one to a Taylor 114ce, for example? I recently bought one and found the action quite high (which of course I could get adjusted), plus I just wasn't super crazy about the tone. I'm thinking of switching to the Sage.
@@bradydyson65 I haven't played a Taylor in a long time but I was never really too impressed with the ones I played. The sage impressed me. One of the easiest acoustic guitars I've ever played. Doesn't feel too much different than my electric guitars far as action. Construction seems to be top notch and for the price is hard to beat.
Hi Tom, I've been an Ibanez electric fan for many years primarily because of their neck shape. I have relatively small hands and prefer a thin neck. Would you be so kind as to comment of your experience with the neck shape.
@@Shadowcruise99 it's not as thin as Ibanez guitars. I'd say more like a fender neck. Feels close to my strats. Feels great to me but I personally don't like Ibanez guitar necks.
@@ATCH1 I get it Tom, Ibanez isn't everyone's cup of tea. Thanks for the reply.
Darrell! PLEASE! I would love to see an Orangewood Hudson versus Martin D18 comparison. Thanks.
Have the Oliver Mahogany and it sounds best fingerstyle and loses some clarity with a pick. This didn't have that problem and it may be my next acoustic. Been patiently waiting for them to be released for reviews. Great playing!
Pretty much made up my mind. Orangewood will definitely be my next acoustic. Unbelievable.
A two by four with strings would sound good when you can play like that! Can't wait for my orangewood to arrive.
It’s not the instrument that makes the man but the man that makes the instrument.
Thanks DB!
This guitar sounds like rosewood, at least from this youtube video. I used to own a Santa Cruz OM/PW and I remember its sound, so I could not believe that this was mahogany. Amazing sound from this guitar, with the cutaway and the electronics. I am interested.
Sounds fantastic So cool :)
Halo person
Wow! I love it.
With the anthem system you're right at about $1000.00. Well worth it for this upgrade. Beautiful guitar.
The neck on the Orangewood Sage is silky smooth!
Man that's a beautiful guitar
Wow it seems like everybody loves this guitar including me
Great playing guitar I want one
I hope they make a 12-string someday.
Sometime after you've gotten settled in your new place, could you consider doing a video comparing the laminate top acoustics to the solid ones? It would be nice to hear them head-to-head to really begin to understand what makes solid tonewood "premium". Thanks for all you do to make me a better player.
Well they did hahaha
Solid top vs laminate top comparisons have been done a thousand times. There is no comparison. Solid wood sounds better almost every single time. And anyone who has played both will almost always prefer solid to laminate.
I don't have $645 but beautiful sounds beyond it cause was played so nice. You are a lucky guy having both.
Great review...
How about a review of the new Hotone Omni AC acoustic simulator?
you will have to wait until someone sends him a free one
Hey Darrell, would you mind telling me what strings you're using in this video?
Actually, I would love for you to make a full series on strings (acoustic and\or electric), I don't think any other youtuber would be able to do it with the precision and fairness that are typical of your comparisons, and I feel like it would be extremely useful to understand a little bit more about what's probably the less discussed component of a guitar.
Hi Darrell love the channel. I watch for the playing as much as the review. Are you playing in standard tuning? Or an alternate tuning?
Sounds like a pretty lyrical, resonant guitar--great for solo guitar. But I was wondering if it would be a decent accompaniment guitar as well. Also, I wonder if you were using any effects? - What a great guitar though; super great value! And so pretty.
thanks INDEED dar!. wish i could find a SUPERB affordable tool like this!.
This is a general question. Why does everyone talk about a 2 or 3 piece solid body electric ? As a woodworker the 3 piece would be more stable and of course more so with the flame maple top glued on. Same with the multi piece neck. That neck thru electric I watched you do was absolutely Beautiful ! If I remember correctly, a PRS or Schecter
BEAUTIFUL guitar... especially considering the price!
Very beautiful tones!
Man, please, could you explain a little more about these both neck and middle "pickups"? Very curious about it!
Rafael Lara Melo it’s the Mic blend. It’s a system of a piezo and an internal mic. Bridge is all piezo, neck is all mic.
$645.00 for the Sage
$945.00 for the Sage Live (includes the L.R. Baggs Anthem pickup system)
That's a good deal. The Anthem pickup is $300 to buy separate. So, free installation!
what's the difference in sage and sage live? which is better ??
@@binaylimbu5721 sage has no pickup, sage live has the athem pickup
that is a steal
Update:: 12/16/2020: price has increased $50 each. Sage and Sage Live Respectively priced at $695 and $995.
Very nice, and that price isn't too shabby!
Sounds Amazing Darrell. Have you tried a Maton guitar like the ones Tommy Emmanuel plays?
I officially quit guitar my little sawtooth can't handle even the slightest bit of distortion and whenever I start saving for another one something comes up thanks for the inspiration to start guitar though I will forever be thankful
I could always be wrong, but I think I detect a little Keaggy influence in your playing. Nice.
Dude what do you expect he’s a Canadian Jew!!!
Right?? I was totally going to say the same thing.
gotta get one !
I’m hoping for a sale. I bought the Echo when it first came out and it’s the only guitar that I pick up everyday. I actually use it to write metal riffs.
KidsOnALeash OnABoat if you haven’t bought one yet you can wait till the end of the year and they have a sale on their popular guitars or you can use code: MARTYSFRIENDS10 for 10% of all purchases
Woow cool! Coincidence I got my Taylor this week...but has 6 strings more!..👍
Because of this video just got mine today
Only 645?!?! Wifey might kill me. Might not. Based on this review, I will roll the dice.
I bought this guitar based on this review, It arrived very well set up, I had to tune it, intonation and action as good as you could ask for, My big issue is this guitar is feather-light, If this is a solid wood guitar the wood is paper-thin, If you put a fan in front of it would blow away.
The lightness is to it's benefit. Some of the best luthiers in the world will tell you that they essentially build with "minimally adequate structure"(that's a direct quote from William Cumpiano, one of the best luthiers in the business). As a general rule, the more wood in the guitar, the heavier the guitar, the less capacity the strings have to vibrate the top. It does make it a more delicate instrument, but it will sound a thousand times better.
That concerns me. Very thin wood needs to be babied (proper humidity) or it could crack.
Its probably lighter because the baked torrefied top would be lighter as it has all the moisture taken out. The back and sides as well were likely dried very well adding to the lightness.
@@Crev1729 How much moisture could have been in the top a 16th of an ounce? this thing is a full one pound lighter than anything else its size, It's a beautiful playing guitar and I have zero regrets about buying it.
Hi, Im very interested in this model. Does anyone knows the fingerboard radius of this model? I would really apreciate if someone does it and share it...
Hi Darrel- I'm curious how you were able to get one of these. I contacted Orangewood and they said they are unable to ship to Canada. I'm willing to pay shipping but they won't do it.
In the superficial world, we live in maybe some added design logo to the headstock to denote the higher price point. I'm sure some would like the world to know they paid more for their Orangewood guitar.
That's one of my only complaints. The Orangewood logo is pretty lame. :-( It looks like an old font you'd see on a t-shirt from the 70's.
You are an amazing guitar player,,,can you tell us a little about your background leading you up to this point?
Me too?
I mean me too!
The guitar he has there is actually $945 because it has the pre-amp in it. There is a version of that guitar that comes without the preamp that is $645 though.
Well that feels like a bait and switch.
I've never seen such a drastic price difference just for the addition of electronics.
@@josephsantana3094 it's an LR Baggs Anthem. Those cost $300. So basically you're getting that with free installation.
@@DragonTalkShow So would that be much higher quality than if you were to use a mic or as the other guy said, "slap a fishman on"?
Right the sage live.
Good demo, but we really miss the naked, non-pickup tone. While I can put a headphone on in my right ear and might be able to detect it that way, the crosstalk can be a bit problematic when evaluating this. Mic it up for us?
Hey Darrel! Totally off-topic from this video (although that Orangewood sounds SUBLIME!), I've the last couple of weeks had a good grand and a half pounds burning in my pocket and I've been absolutely scouring the internet for the absolute most bang I can get from the 'entry-level' high end range of guitars. I, whilst browsing, often thought of which 5 guitars you would pick for under 1500£ - could this be a future video perhaps? You've given us so many cool guitars to learn about, but rarely have I seen you hunting for anything when you have a specific economic number in mind!
Cheers from Denmark!
Take a look at Relish Guitars.
So is it a keeper for $945 brother? Seems to be great value. Depends on feel, warmth, etc though. Excellent demo btw.
I swear everytime I watch your vids it makes me want to pick up my guitar
I broke that code a while ago. Now I always have a guitar in my hands when I watch his videos. ; )
Pretty sweet 👍
Wonder if COVID is affecting overseas production costs for Orangewood. The sage is now 695 instead of 645
Darrell Braun could I get you to do a review on the Oscar Schmidt OG10CE??
On a high end guitar I would have loved some more interesting inlays. at least blocks should do, I th]ink dots are ugly unless theyre like on a guitar that has that vibe like fenders or gibson juniors.
The recording technique on this sounds much higher clarity or something than previous....any changes?
What are the differences in sound does ava, sage and hudson have?
You have a prettier tone than other reviews of the same gear. Is that natural reverb of your room? Or your mic maybe? Or do you add vst reverb?
Is your 10% off still good at Orangewood ? Thanks
Hi. Sweet playin. What do u think about the neck/shape/size etc..in ur opinion is it thicker than std?
The sage live is getting up there in price (Sage Live). PRS has a super acoustic electronic right there at the same price. And it is a PRS. And theirs blows the orange away.
The Anthem preamp is definitely not cheap, but it sounds unreal 👍
I've just played a PRS acoustic in-store but it was quite nice too.
PRS is laminate back/sides vs the Sage all solid. Did you play both and did the PRS really sound better?
$645 for beautiful sounding guitar is crazy price, does it ship to Indonesia?
Sounds really strong enough to be a 12 string! Really deep tone for a 6 string, which is awesome! Great work here man!
Thanks!
@@DarrellBraunGuitar You're welcome my man!
Ummmm...Wow? Sounds amazing!
Do a video on Orangewood OLIVER vs Orangewood Sage
❤️❤️❤️❤️
I didn't hear the anthem's mic in the pickup demo.
