Absolutely - listen to her sing Signore ascolta from a concert performance in 1976, remarkable. It's not showing off though, just marvelous musicianship.
+Khalid Al-Thani This is more impressive, because it was at the very ending of the opera - so she had been singing for two hours - and it is in forte. The B5 in the preghiera is held in pianissimo for several seconds and then ends up in a crescendo. Both are extreme feats of control, but this one takes the crown for me.
She was unique,a vocal miracle! Perhaps most memorable was her Maria Stuarda in concert in 1972 but there was so many wonderful occasions when one listened in disbelief😊
Ecco sento la caballe ancora all'apice.
I thought the ending of Turandot's act 1 "ah pieta" from signore ascolta in the Sutherland's recording was longer, but I just reviewed it and it is exactly 18 seconds as well.
Very impressive the quality and beauty of such high note. The length, although can be impressive for someone that is not a singer, for me is a natural length because the higher you sing lesser air you spend. If it was 18 seconds in a very low note I would be more impressed. I really love Montserrat Caballe.
Kokia is not an opera singer. She sings with a microphone and piano accompaniment. Kokia wouldn't last two seconds on stage with an orchestra. What kokia does is a gimmick and is nothing compared to what is heard in this video.
Impressive not only in length but in quality as well.

Absolutely phenomenal ... what a fabulous voice. I will miss you for ever, Montserrat ...
So much power and resonance! Wow!
It is incredible that besides her pianissimo, her fortissimo is also perfect and sung, NOT screamed.
in Maria Stuarda, in the preghiera she held a note for 20 seconds! without sounding like her breath finished.

What opera is this from?
Christopher Clough The final of Don Carlo.
Thanks!
Same in Lucrezia Borgia, RCA,1989

Nobody could do it like she could!
That’s not her longest. 23 seconds in the Lucrezia Borgia prologue finale is the longest.
Splendid but if it's certainly her longest note fortissimo, she has sung notes of 22 or 23 seconds in other places.
Definitely not her longest note.
Yes and it's not 18 seconds, it's slightly over 16 seconds.
Esta es la gran Caballé!!! Brava!!!
Maria Callas, Montserrat Caballe and Renata Tebaldi for me are the best opera singers.
I'd replace Tebaldi with Sutherland. I agree with the rest.
I think I’m in the camp too. I do like Sutherland and Price too!
Tebaldi 😂🤮🤮🤮🤮machst du Witze? Die is so schlecht
Gencer,Freni, Cerquetti.......
hair raising!!!
EL FIATO MAS GRANDE DE LA HISTORIA DE LA OPERA GRANDE MONSERRAT,UNICA
She with the 18 second Bb and Callas Aida Eb and Joan’s Beatrice di Tenda. Nothing else to say!
My fav version for Verdi's Don Carlo (studio and live).
Which version is this?

Taylor Swift was also able to hold a 20 second note
Sad you cut the amazing applause at the end of that note!
That's not good singing at all, that is great singing!!!
POWER, POWER & POWER!

This is definitely not her longest note or phrase sung on one breath.
Maybe not, but it sure was great!
Epic!
Santa madre..👏👏🥺
well that gave me chills in the first three seconds. you can just forget the other 15 lol
Poco importa quanto sea. E meravigliosa.
DEP DIVAA
♥️🌹
Ojo cuidao
16 seconds. Not 18. Still unbelievable
17.5!!
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
💜💐
Leyla Gencer 23 second...
My cat, one minute.
Dimash can do longer. I love Montserrat
Kokia the japanese singer held an opera note for 29.5 seconds.
+Mightyeglantine what song?
+Nathan Guimarães She sang the note in O'sole Mio.
Mightyeglantine thanks
