Great videos Allen, interesting to see. I'm looking into getting a condensing boiler to replace my existing non condensing one should the gov pay for 2/3 the installation cost. However, my existing gas pipe is 15mm from the gas meter. It might be worth a video to explain any regulations that dictate that a 22mm pipe to the new boiler is a requirement or not, and if there's issues with running the new pipe and any bodges where 15mm to 22mm reduces have been put on the other way that makes it apparent it has been done, but not actually. @@kevincranfield5235 that's good to hear, as lots of websites such as www.boilerguide.co.uk/articles/replacing-central-heating-pipes quote as saying it's a Gas regulation to do so.
Hi Kevin Most boiler say the gas MUST be 22mm. Some like the ideal logic have a 15mm connection and are able to have some 15mm depending on pipe sizing. Thanks.
It’s recommended, but it all depends on the KW rating and distance from the meter etc, there is no regulation I know of that says a 22mm gas supply is required. You may require a larger pipe than 22mm, it all depends on the Boiler output, other appliances and length of pipework etc etc. You also stated that you are replacing a standard efficiency with a condensing boiler, you never mentioned you where converting it to a Combi boiler.
These installs give me PTSD! I don't know how many out of code and out of manufacturers specifications I've had to tear down and install correctly just because someone else installs it like shite. I give them a quote to install a new system and they tell me, but the other guy charged me a ¼ (quarter) of the price. My response is, "that's why the other guy hasn't answered your calls and you need to get your system reinstalled." You get what you pay for.
What do you think of these companies who are offering government grant for replacement boilers? I have an 11 year old boiler, if they tender out the contract of replacement of the boiler to a gas engineer I don’t mind doing it, but if they have an engineer who works for them then I may be a little dubious!
I also attend a lot of grant related jobs as they are installing our boilers, almost every time I’ve attended a breakdown, it’s due to being poorly installed, they are never flushed, using existing flues, blocked condensate pipe work and low working pressures etc etc, and the companies will not re attend to put the work right. The sub contractors are given 2 boilers swaps a day, and 1 customer told me the guy was there 1 and a half hours and swapped the boiler.
No you cannot, a minimum of 1m copper pipe before any plastic straight of the primaries is required to negate heat distortion in the plastic pipe work.
The gas run on the internal looks very odd. All taped up with nail clips, and it does appear to have been reduced down to 15mm too early. Better than it was but still a little bit suspect.
I know there’s so much wrong with this instal it’s a joke. Also even if the filling loop is on the right or wrong way. It should not be left connected it should be capped off. One other thing. Years ago an engineer insisted that the flues in the loft must be taped. I argued but he was adamant by the way it was a lovely. Ferolli boiler
The irritating aspect of the Baxi install is the pipework, particularly the gas supply, being neatly clipped and plumb but the boiler position and flue being as bad as it is. It's got all the hallmarks of a job being rushed at the very end.
Check valve on filling loop fitted in direction of flow will still stop back flow whether fitted on cold main or heating return. Still shocking installs, biggest problem I come across out there is undersized gas pipe work
Think about your reply, it’s a non return valve or double check so only let’s water through in one direction so back flow is prevented, whether fitted directly on the cold or on the heating return. The arrow is towards the heating circuit meaning water can enter the circuit but you could not drain via this. Also boilers fitted with integral filling loops are similar set up and you could argue this contravene water regulations as the only way to be sure that back flow is prevented is to remove the filling loop and cap valves
Feel free to send me a copy of the regulations or standards explaining why we would have a non return, double check on the heating. I have never seen one but always happy to learn more.
The valve attached to Worcester boiler in question is a double check valve all filling loops are supplied with one on the video the person who installed it fitted it to the heating pipe, all filling loops are wras approved to do this they have to be supplied with a check valve as this is. So it’s really pointless to state its fitted incorrectly when it isn’t as the check valve is in place whether directly of the cold or heating return. Even as a lay person one looks at these bad installs with a very worried eye. They are so shoddy, and so lacking in tidiness and neatness, which one would think are basics for anyone in your business. And some of the issues with safety are staggering. It’s Gas in peoples home! 🤷♂️
If you think a lot of the work out there in the UK is bad, you should see some of the installs in Ireland. Absolutely shocking work out there. At least ye have proper gas training. In Ireland on the other hand does not have proper training. All you need to work on gas is to complete a 16 day course and you can become a RGI and away you. metac.ie/domestic-gas-safety-dgs/
I guess it is hard for smaller countries - They want their own regs/schemes but really I think they would be much better off drooping the ego and following a larger country's regs/training scheme etc. Then concentrate on enforcing the regs. To be honest Ringo, with Ireland being so pro Europe I thought they would be more inclined to align themselves with the Germans but from what you have said it does not appear to be happening!

I don’t get that the Riddor, gas safe never give feedback when you report clowns for this kind of stuff. I don’t think they do anything about it really. I reported a guy last year for a floor standing boiler using a communal flue where that flue had collapsed in the loft, he’d serviced it that week. He’s still trading and that was last year
I am not an installer but do some domestic servicing. A lot of the errors are basic teachings when doing gas courses. Not sure how these installers sleep at night
This has been going on for years. Corgi and Gas safe heating engineers as well. told one guy i'd not seen anything quite like his pipework since my daughter was having her hair platted. He even took offence to what I said, got funny. Cheeky bar steward.
That's why Allan you should only be able to buy anything gas related if you have a gas ticket .It costs us enough to get it . Gas safety is a joke in this country.
Are these actually fitted by gas safe registered person? Shocking, I would probably fitted this better, in I'm only DIY person. PS love the accent of yours!
I see poor work regularly. I think the trade has had a drop in standards ever since the "skills shortage" some time ago. Too many have got into the trade with minimal training and a get rich quick attitude.
How are these cowboys getting away with it I’m not an engineer but just looking at them they look dreadful and more importantly dangerous problem is u lose confidence thinking all engineers villains
I'm gas safe but don't do eny property's. I work on gas compressors and boosters in sewage plants. This don't even come under the regulations or it didnt. Just another card in my wallet.. Its getting to the point where you will need a card just to take a leak. Then you turn up to do a job only to find out your foot wear is banned your hi vis is the wrong colour or that ally tower is the wrong type. Then you sit through some BS induction for half an hour to get a sticker for your hard hat that again must be a certain colour. Then people wonder why a job that should take a day or two drags in to a full week. Japan gets hit by an earth quake, roads fall to bits, a week or two later its all fixed.

i have never liked push fit for long runs or complete installs as a maintenance engineer its mostly used as a stop gap repair or up to three metres couple of bends or a tee , thats why i am so enthralled with the press fit plastic
Isn't there supposed to be at least 1 metre of copper coming from boiler before any push fit is used?
Typed this👆🏻 before you cleared it up 🤦🏻♂️😂😂
Thanks for the comment anyway.
Plastic pipe is all they use in Turkey. No copper pipe ever. What are the cons of plastic piping?
Even as a lay person one looks at these bad installs with a very worried eye. They are so shoddy, and so lacking in tidiness and neatness, which one would think are basics for anyone in your business. And some of the issues with safety are staggering. It’s Gas in peoples home! 🤷♂️
Thank You
British gas on a good day I suspect
I don’t think they have many engineers these days. Mainly subcontractors
That an ex British gas van Allen?
Yes. Thanks
@@AllenHart999 I had an ex British gas van a few years ago and it had that exact same slot holder, proper handy 👍🏻
@@United-Til-I-Die Had this a few years now and TBH its been great.
@@AllenHart999 yeah my mechanic mate bought mine as it had few issues but it lasted me 4 years with no issues, was a good little combo
I'm sure you can do similar courses here if you pay the cash to retrain and become an engineer in so many weeks/ months
Im gonna show this comment to my mate John docherty (my plastic paddy friend ) he's gonna be upset at uour comment .we trade insult about each of our countries .mine been bradford 🙄ok ok i was 3 months old when I got here but John was born.in London 🤭 . Great videos by the way .
Wonder how many of these installs were carried out by boiler company approved installer, pay peanuts and this is what you get
I don’t get that the Riddor, gas safe never give feedback when you report clowns for this kind of stuff. I don’t think they do anything about it really. I reported a guy last year for a floor standing boiler using a communal flue where that flue had collapsed in the loft, he’d serviced it that week. He’s still trading and that was last year
Unfortunately there are some tradesman who wanna get in get out and take the money
I am not an installer but do some domestic servicing. A lot of the errors are basic teachings when doing gas courses. Not sure how these installers sleep at night
Thanks for watching.
@@AllenHart999 Do you mind if I post to a gas and plumbers fb site I am on
@@focusford11 Please post as much as possible. Thanks.
Wow is all I have
Do you see any installs like this? Thanks.
@@AllenHart999 not to that level of bad
Can I work for you? Sir.😜👍👍👍
I wish i had a pound for every time someone asks me that lol. Thanks.
This has been going on for years. Corgi and Gas safe heating engineers as well. told one guy i'd not seen anything quite like
his pipework since my daughter was having her hair platted. He even took offence to what I said, got funny. Cheeky bar steward.
Thanks.
They can’t have the gas safe ticket
the gas pipe coming out the top of the meter box makes the installation " i d " i see dozens of these.
How do you classify them?
@@AllenHart999 we leave a safety warning notice .
No earth bonding
That's why Allan you should only be able to buy anything gas related if you have a gas ticket .It costs us enough to get it .
Gas safety is a joke in this country.
Are these actually fitted by gas safe registered person? Shocking, I would probably fitted this better, in I'm only DIY person.
PS love the accent of yours!
Thank you for the comment. I have no idea who installed them.
Some people have no conscience! 🥴🥴🤔🤔
Thanks
Wtf some cowboy still about then
I see poor work regularly. I think the trade has had a drop in standards ever since the "skills shortage" some time ago. Too many have got into the trade with minimal training and a get rich quick attitude.
Hey! We call that "ambition".
How are these cowboys getting away with it I’m not an engineer but just looking at them they look dreadful and more importantly dangerous problem is u lose confidence thinking all engineers villains
None of this makes sense?
Michael Walker send us some videos WhatsApp 07725 692699 Thanks
Bet these boilers where fitted under government grant scheme.
