When describing his time with Phonak Hamilton mostly writes about Fuentes being unprofessional compared to Ferrari and what a clusterfuck his doping operation was.

What did for TH was his ridiculous defence after winning TT Olympic gold...he claimed the dead embryo of an unborn twin was still lodged in his system...yes....that's the old favourite one of dopers...blame a nascent, unborn ghost of your rampant doping. Fun to watch but I would consider it a bit misleading about Tyler's progression as a cyclist. Having known him during college he went from not being a cyclist to one of the best amateurs in a year. He started late and still had an extremely successful career. Not just because he doped. Also, the US was and is extremely poor at developing and supporting talent in Sport. I don't know a single cyclist from Boulder from that generation including the pros and semi pros in Boulder that given a chance to race in Europe at the highest level wouldn't have at least considered a program given the opportunity. I personally worked in Antarctica for a winter season following the path of two other aspiring mountain bike pros just to be able to race full time myself for a season.
