Fly fishing for trout, fly fishing for Cutthroat in the Pacific Northwest has been a passion of mine for the last 40 years. I have spent most of my life fly fishing the great Pacific Northwest to include fly fishing in Alaska, fly fishing in Washington, fly fishing in Oregon, fly fishing in Idaho and fly fishing in Montana. I generally will fly fish and practice catch and release when fly fishing for trout, but I have been known to catch and cook during camping trips to many of my favorite fishing spots. I love to fly fish lakes in the higher elevation, though I have a few lowland lakes that are fly fishing only that are also on my most favorite list. I have a ton experience fly fishing rivers for trout and always enjoy discovering new rivers to fly fishing in and around the greater Pacific Northwest. I am also an accomplished at casting a fly rod - whether it is fly fishing casting for distance, fly fishing casting for accuracy, the double haul, roll cast, tower cast and many more fly fishing casting techniques - I can show you the basics when it comes to casting a fly rod. I also will cover many topics that relate to getting started with fly fishing. From your basic fly fishing setups, flies and fly boxes - we cover all the fly fishing needs for beginners. Thanks for taking the time to tune into FlyFishDan and I hope you consider subscribing to my fly fishing channel. Cheers and FISH-ON!!! - Спорт
I had a terribly frustrating day a few days ago fishing private waters. First time I ever paid to play. I fished hard for 8 hours with very little action. Each half hour that went by, I felt more deflated. Finally, at the end of the day, I hooked a nice rainbow on a leech. Then proceeded to lose it when I accidentally stepped in a hole. I was feeling like fly fishing maybe was beyond me. But a couple days later, I gave myself a pep talk and decided to watch a video on your channel. Your content always makes me feel good. You and Kobe fishing together was exactly what this sad old Dad needed to snap be back into enthusiasm. I am going fishing one day this week. And while I know there are trout in there (the Sacramento River), I know that my wading and drifting it in one spot is rather long odds. But that's the beauty of it. If I get even a strike, it will have been more than worth it. Thank you for keeping me motivated.
Love this - thank you for the inspiration as well, that's why I keep doing what I do. Cheers and FISH-ON!
Incredible adventure! An egg sucking fine time! Thanks for sharing that epic 3 day trip! Fish on!
Thank you! It really was an incredible trip - thanks for tuning in!
Great video Dan. Not too far! Just north of me. Great rivers and clear water to clear your mind and soul!! Will be up there soon again myself!! Stay safe!!
Thank you! Well said! Love that - definitely clears the mind and recharges the soul. Good luck on your next trip! Cheers!

Looks like my neck of the woods :) Glad you guys had a great time!!!
It was an amazing trip for sure :)) Cheers!
Relly great video, good trip nice fish you got
Thank you! I really had a great time reliving this video in the editing room - one of my favorite things about sharing my experiences! Cheers!
Great video. Really enjoyed the scenery and of course the fish catching action. Going to Missoula in July to fish Bitteroot and others. This got me fired up. Can’t wait. 👍
Thank you Don - that sounds like a great time!
I know that river. Have jumped off that swinging bridge a few times.
Grew up fishing there. Worked for the Forest Service there. And...I ain't saying where it is!! haha
You said, "It's a creek but it's raging" and I remember the little old Raging River in Washington that could really get Raging when it got high and flowing. I've caught a whiff of the bears throughout the NW..... you gotta be prepared. I saw the Coug sweatshirt, my daughter, son in law and now grandson are Cougs. This was one heckuva trip y'all had!
It really was an awesome trip - thank you for taking the time to watch! GO COUGS!
Lived in Northern Idaho from the late 1970s to the early 80s. So much great water on public ground, plus Idaho has the access law in our favor. At the time kids could use worms in flies and lures only water, my 7-year-old daughter caught a giant 4lb cutthroat with a worm on her Zebco on the St Joe
Thank you Robert for the great comments - much appreciated. Cheers!
Oh man, great vid. Im hoping to get up to Idaho/Montana with my son in a couple of months myself. Total inspiration man. Right on.
Thank you!! It really was an amazing trip and so fun to relive in the edit room. Idaho is a special place - I hope you and your son make it over soon!
The St. Joe, Lochsa, Selway, Clearwater, Salmon, Payette, Snake, Boise, Owyhee, Bruneau. We have some pretty awesome rivers in Idaho that have cut some of the deepest canyons in the country. Hell's Canyon is 8,000' deep, 2,000' deeper than the Grand Canyon. The Middle Fork Salmon River has also cut equally deep canyons, especially at Impassable Canyon. The rafting and kayaking is epic!
Dan , the more u show me fishing in Idaho , the more I am actually thinking that's going to be my new home ! Beautiful water , beautiful scenery , beautiful fish !!! 😁👍 Take care guys , ok.
It's a pretty amazing place for sure - I plan on retiring there myself :)) Thank you for taking the time to watch! Cheers!
plese no more people move to idaho lol
@@user-hc3jh2uj7yimagine when all of the "migrants" get up there..
Woooooow guys so this is really a video, longer though, but I couldn't take my eyes off,how wonderful you guys are out there and the time you catch from the boat the very best.👏👏👏👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️🤗🤗🤗😍😍😍🤠🤠🤠
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@FlyFishDan Lord,I watch every video of you whole And more than once, you can't take your eyes off it's still there to watch.🤠🤠🤠😍😍😍👏👏👏🤗🤗🤗❤️❤️❤️
Heck yeah! Get out the popcorn!!
It's a long watch for sure - but I planned each video to link together and then created a new intro. Fun reliving the trip in the editing room, one of my favorite things to do!
FFD watch out for Griz up that way!!! Bears are one thing, Griz are something else!!!
Pretty unusual that a griz wanders into the Joe and they usually don't stay long. Even before they were reduced in number in the NW, they were pretty rare there. Not very good grizzly habitat.
@Steve Rockwell 😂
So apparently I need to go take a trip to Idaho it seems 🤠 Great video! ✌
An awesome adventure and video!
Can I ask what strike indicator you use? The twist one.
Thank you! Did you get all the way through it?? It was a long one! :)) Fun reliving it in the editing room though, one of my favorite things to do. Cheers!
Absolutely - I use the OROS Indicators. They are rock solid! No twists!
@@FlyFishDan Sweet! Thank you for replying back, I just ordered some.
@@themidnightrider6805 you’re gonna love them!
sure looks a lot like the rivers out here in north east oregon. epic video thanks dan
Thanks 👍
That pungent smell is the Squatch watching you from up above.
You're really the best.🌟🌟🌟❤️❤️❤️😍😍😍🤠🤠🤠
What bridge were you fishing by?
Thanks for the great content, any help on some northern Idaho spots would be appreciated!
Thank you Jack! I have always had the best luck with visiting the local fly shops...spend a little money and they will point the way. Cheers!
What an amazing trip - thanks for sharing FFD!
Our pleasure!
lots of waters in the region with great fishing. Sightfishing with dry flies or 2inch streamers are the way to find the big fish on this river. Thats why its called one of the best.
Very true!
Why do I recognize that song? 🤔 so beautiful man!
Hmmmmm... :)) Thank you!
Great video! I’ll be in that area in July. Any tips on what bugs to use?
I’m in Colorado this weekend, I’ll circle back with you in just a couple days. I’ll get you hooked up with the right flies!
@@FlyFishDan Great. Thanks!
@@MrJTime you’ll want to use big hopper patterns in July - my favorite it the red Chornobyl, super effective. Be on the lookout for morning/evening hatches of mayfly, grey wolf fly is deadly. Good luck!
Dan, love your vids. I will be fishing the St. Joe in the new week or two. This video what month was it filmed?
Awesome - We were there in late April early May just before the runoff
@@FlyFishDan Have you ever fished it in June? Excited but worried about high water
Another great video. Was the float trip on the CDA or the North Fork?
Shoot me an email and I'll give you the scoop!
@@FlyFishDan Thanks... where do I find your e mail?
Epic video. What creek/river is this?
It was a freestone river in Idaho :))
@@FlyFishDan I’m picking up what your putting down. Just moved out here from MT and looking to get into some big cuts. Missing MT fishing already.
Not were I go.
