  • Hi guys! I just wanted to do a quick video of me making my go-to drink on the fabulous Faema EuroStar espresso machine.
I'm using some Starbucks Verona coffee ground from my Breville Smart Grinder Pro ground on setting 5 for 24 sec gives me about a 17g dose usually. I will be using a cute 3oz Bialetti espresso demi tasse and letting it fill right up to give me a nice lungo double shot the way I like it.
A little backstory, I picked up this white Faema EuroStar used off Kijiji for about 50 Canadian Rubles .. lol.. what a steal, I love this classic style machine just need to ignore the rust under the drip tray for a while until I fix that up. It is the EuroStar Jr and apparently there is some connection that these are made by Lelit for Faema, makes sense when you see all the older Lelit with builtin grinders looking just like this guy. It is a single brass boiler on top of the brew group, has 3 way solenoid valve, it heats up quick and makes lots of steam. I gave it a deep clean, a lovely new handle and new gasket. I am using the Ascaso pro baskets from my Ascaso Basic in this handle since they both use 57mm baskets. Does a lovely job. The MOTTA black distribution tool is great and a good weight to it.
My process not actually all shown was to grind into a little demi tasse that matches the top of the basket diameter, while the grinds are in that cup I use a 3D printed WDT tool that I picked up locally off a Kijiji ad as well .. about $12 then I dump the grinds inverted onto the basket and give a palm tap to flatten a little before going to the Motta distributor. I keep going back and forth between setting the distributor deeper and not tamping, and sometimes setting it shallower and following up with a tamp.
What do you guys do with your distributor methods? Deep with no tamp or shallow and tamp? Let me know in the comments!
    Cheers!!! Hope you enjoyed.

Hi, thanks for sharing the video. I am looking to picked up a used Faema Eurostar Ambassador machine. Do you know where I can find the equivalent model that it is rebranded from?
Also, where in Toronto do you get parts for these machines? Thanks!

Hello! Thank for watching the vid!
I love that machine... I don't know what the original model is there are Faema ones, Lelit versions, and Mokita that I know of... I think there's also Avanti.
From what I recall there is still a Faema dealer in central Toronto, they may or may not take in older machines for repairs or parts, I got the brew gasket in silicone from the shop in Mississauga called Espresso Planet, since they're a Lelit dealer and some of the parts match up.
Cheers! Good luck with the machine!

Also please, I have just bought one of these too, but it didnt have a main gasket in it! :-0 What to do? And the local supplier cant find any information, and do you know what size gasket it takes please? Thickness, and inside and outside diameter?

you can order or obtain the white silicone main gasket (for the portafilter) from any place that sells Lelit. This machine is basically the same part as Lelit Anna PL41EM. The silicone gasket is a nicer feeling upgrade too with a cushiony closure of the filter to it. It is slightly thinner as well so your portafilter handle will end up slightly more to the right when snug. Good luck!

I found one today on Kijiji...... The steam wand is going to need some help - it's loose and leaks..... Is this possible to fix myself? Any advice for part appreciated. Still trying to figure out a nice shot, although seller pulled a great one for me prior to purchase.

Nice job finding one! How much did you get it for? Shouldn't be a big problem fixing the steam wand leak probably just water solids building up on the o-rings. Might be as simple as taking the nut off that stops the steam adjusting screw from unthreading all the way out, remove / clean / reinstall. It can definitely pull great shots and its a simple single boiler unit very similar inside to a gaggia classic.

Hey! I just picked one of these guys up today! Curious if you know what size the portafilter is? and if you did or planning on doing any upgrades/tweaks?

Hello! It's a great machine! The portafilter is 57mm. The only real customization I did was replacing the standard brew gasket with the softer white silicone one (Lelit brand white silicone gasket for 57mm portafilters), makes a nice difference in feel when doing your routine and very easy and cheap to change.
I also bought the bottomless wood handle portafilter and an 57mm Ascaso competition basket from BlueStarCoffee in it to get even better extraction. www.bluestarcoffee.eu/ascaso-57mm-precision-competition-filter-14gr-h23-579-p.asp
Here is the link for the portafilter .. www.bluestarcoffee.eu/lelit--57mm-naked-portafilter-wood-14170-p.asp
Bluestar is great for parts and is cheap for shipping!

Also if you just email the people at idrinkcoffee or whatever online Lelit dealer you should be able to get that silicone gasket for pretty cheap. Just mention it's for Lelit Ana with 57mm portafilter

Just picked up this machine, can I ask if you have descaled it? If so, could you make a video about it?

    • @bikesandbeans
      @bikesandbeans  Рік тому +1

Hello, sorry for the missed response. Yes I have descaled it , it descales the same process as a Gaggia Classic (with solenoid valve). I hope you are enjoying the machine, it is lovely. Also, to decrease scale in the machine look into getting the water softener bags that you can pop into the water tank. Change the bag every 3-6months depending on how hard your water is and it makes a huge difference in scale build up.
