Exploring Burke Mtn. | Bike & Hike
Vloggy time, went out for a rainy day exercise to explore higher up on Burke Mountain than I've gone before.
Talking about exercise needs getting older, talking about the Rockrider EXPL500 and my Michelin tires, checking out some of the trail entrances along the way and enjoying the nature up the mountain on a rainy day.
Coquitlam, British Columbia, only 25 minutes drive from Surrey.

    • @bikesandbeans
      @bikesandbeans 29 днів тому

      Ok, I took some time to look at the specs of the '22 Scott, and I think the Rockrider is the better choice. The Rockrider has a more modern 1x drivetrain by Microshift that works great (although less high speed gearing) but that saves weight over a multi geared crank and front shifter/derailleur. Also the fork on the Rockrider is the stiffer 30mm leg version of the suntour the xcm not the xce (on the Scott) with 28mm stanctions. This make a difference in durability and front end stiffness. Still a cheap fork but a better cheap fork. Finally the price.. in Canada the Rockrider is selling for almost $200 less than the Scott. Unless you have a crazy deal on the Scott, go with the Rockrider

      Thanks for the info i appreciate it. Atm the price where i live for the rockrider is about 560 usd, and for the scott is about 590 usd. I also se the scott has mech brakes, where the rockrider has hydraulic?

      Hmm I'm not sure what you mean, but maybe you mean the stem? You just have to undo the bolts, remove the handlebar, then take out the vertical screw that keeps the steering tight, take off the stem and flip and redo the screws and bolts, not bad... just raises the bar by about 10-15 mm but for me was more comfortable not being used to a low front end.

    A beast? A modern enduro is HUGE compared to that. I have a 2007 Specialized Enduro Comp with a full XT set-up and E150 Dual crown fork. It feels tiny compared the my 2023 Rocky Mountain Instinct C 30 29er trail bike. I also have a 2013 Specialized Stumpjumper Elite 29er and it feel small too. Lol. Bikes have really changed, Rebuilds are not the best option right now. New bike sales have cratered... especially 2023 overstock. Now is the time to buy. The Instinct was $2900 USA delivered from Jenson USA. That's no chump change, but it is 40% off MSRP. That bike still rocks though. Happy trails. I have been on Spec for 25 years. I've seen coffee enthusiasts splay a couple spritz of water over their beans before grinding in order to reduce static. Basically the water provides a conductive medium for electricity and your coffee doesn't go quite all over the place

    • @bikesandbeans
      @bikesandbeans 7 місяців тому

      yes I have tried this with espresso before and its touchy.. too much will end up clogging grinds in your grinder .. the excess grind static from the Orbegozo was really due to it not having a good accuracy and creating a ton of fines to get it close to proper espresso grind size.

  • @MrMits92
    @MrMits92 7 місяців тому

    Hey man, a have the same espresso machine since like a year, but i struggle with measurement how much to tamp and how much is out also what type of coffee to use. I usually buy Lavazza coffy alredy preground. Can you give me your measurement ? Thanks in advance!

    • @bikesandbeans
      @bikesandbeans 7 місяців тому

      If I recall the basket can really only hold 15-16 gram. Tamping only needs to be enough pressure until the coffee is firm underneath. It's more important to have an even layer of espresso in the filter before you tamp.. You will have better results. Lavassa makes guys tasting espresso but it's much better to buy beans and have a good fine grinder. Breville dose control is a good starting point for a home grinder. The preground packages of espresso coffee are not really fine enough to do a great cup.

    • @MrMits92
      @MrMits92 7 місяців тому

      @bikesandbeans but how do you know when it is enough and you turn off the extraction? I found 1 to 2 ratio: if it is 15 grams in the basket, then you get 30 grams out in your cup. I also heard about 25 - 30 seconds rule for espresso, but in Viva case, you get something like lungo or americano after 25 seconds, definitely not espresso. So I am a bit frustrated about measurements, and it is difficult to find the right ratio

    • @bikesandbeans
      @bikesandbeans 7 місяців тому

      The amount for time ratio you're saying is more due to the day flow of coffee because you are using preground espresso. With a proper grind 1:2 ratio is correct

      Hello! Yes, thanks for watching! Sorry I haven't put out anything new in a little while, we just moved back into Canada from Portugal. As for the bike, honestly I have had no issues with it just the worn chain which was changed during the servicing. I thought it might be the bottom bracket because of the grinding sloppy sound when pedalling under pressure but it was just an excessively worn chain. I blame the gritty and dry portuguese sandy dirt for that as my chains in Ontario would last quite a while longer. Great bike for the $$!

      @srbhit 9 місяців тому

      @@bikesandbeans So was your chain the stock chain it came on the bike? I think the chain ain‘t house branded, mine has a KMC Z9 and it’s ig universal. Cube bikes also use the same chain type and what I heard in the video is that the chain was worn out that fast and I was like: wait what, 6 months of use and the chain is already worn? I‘ve noticed strange sounds aswell but the bottom bracket is fine. I put more lubricant and removed the access fat from the chain and it sounded better but still a bit grindy. I have the bike for a month now and I only drive it on asphalt. Never been abused yet. And i drove around 100km with this bike. Was the grinding sound loud on your rockrider or was it also just a mild grind? Also thanks for the reply!

      Yeah it did seem a little fast wearing to me... but this is a relatively inexpensive bike, and I'm used to more expensive SRAM chains that I have very good luck with in the past. @@bikesandbeans thank you very much for your answer and it's nice that it can be improved. I just ordered it, I hesitated between 500 and 520 for a long time. But if the 500 can be improved according to your needs after the lack of gears, why overpay at the start for 520 in the same frame

      From what I know of bike components.. the parts should fit for upgrading it to 11-50.. you might have to change the cassette and chain and shifter you might have to change the rear derailleur, or if you just went to 11-46/48 you might not have to change the der.

    hello, how do you rate this bike after time. Everything is good with this bike. does the rear derailleur have too few gears in the field and on flat roads. would you not prefer to add to 520 or 540 after time. Cz is a good bike to start with

    • @bikesandbeans
      @bikesandbeans Рік тому

      So the thing is... for the money, the upgrades given to the 520 over the 500 are worth it. They gave the 520 an alloy seatpost, slightly better fork, and 10spd drive. THE PROBLEM IS... to me, I bought a ligher weight seatpost and stem *so better than 520* .. also I would never invest money into a low end SunTour, maybe an Epixon or a RockShox Silver but not an xcm type fork with damping theyre just too heavy to consider it an upgrade. also the 1x10 drive they upgraded the 520 to is something to me isnt enough gain to be worth it... better to DIY upgrade and Aliexpress a 10spd with something that has 50 tooth, that would actually make a difference. That's my opinion anyway, I like upgrading the bike and making it mine even if it cost a little more in the end it's more of the way I truly want it to be. Also, the stock brakes are pretty strong on the 500 if you upgrade the rotors to 180. I got rotors and adapters from ALI for about 20 euros (SRAM look a like style) and they are strong now.

      I guess I kind of didn't directly answer your questions yet. With the upgrades I did it's very capable for xc biking and use on the road. Everything has been pretty good. I've done over 600km with no issues, had the maintenance for free done at the local decathlon and only needed a new chain. Not bad for cheap components. I spin out pedalling around 37-40 km/h so it's fine for me on downhill roads just visiting I've got 57 according to the GPS.

Which is when the colour of the espresso stream starts to turn from brown to blonde it is done extracting. Basically after is blonde it pale yellow color there's not much good stuff coming out of the espresso and mostly is just water. If you want a stronger more Italian style you cut the machine as soon as it isn't deep brown color anymore. Hope that helps!

      Nice job finding one! How much did you get it for? Shouldn't be a big problem fixing the steam wand leak probably just water solids building up on the o-rings. Might be as simple as taking the nut off that stops the steam adjusting screw from unthreading all the way out, remove / clean / reinstall. It can definitely pull great shots and its a simple single boiler unit very similar inside to a gaggia classic.
