Who knew that you had to take out the metal jumper plate before you wired in the rain freeze sensor in order for it to actually work? Believe it or not I was one of those guys when I first got started installing irrigation systems. I had to learn the hard way, on a lot of things, and wiring up a sensor, the right way, was one of them. None of my sensors were working properly and I didn't know why until someone pointed it out that I didn't take the jumper out before I wired it in. So that leads me to the number one tip when installing a rain freeze sensor - Make sure you take out the jumper before you wire the sensor in. The jumper keeps the common connected so the controller will run, if you don't take it out, the sensor will never trip the controller and stop it from running. So your sensor will not work. When you take the jumper out and wire in the sensor, the common now runs though the sensor. When the sensor trips from rain or freezing weather, it breaks the common and stops the controller from running. This is how to properly install a rain freeze sensor.

Its always great to admit your mistakes so you and others can learn from them. Every time I made a mistake in a repair I would write down in my irrigation note book what went wrong and how I could have done it better the next time.

That’s a great idea, to keep a note book like that. We all make mistakes, learning from them is the important thing.

Great info! Thanks man! I would’ve installed it incorrectly! I live in Las Vegas so I’ve never seen one installed out here with the little to no rainfall we receive but there will be someone who will want one.

You bet. Yeah we don’t receive much rain here in west Texas either but every new install has to have a rain freeze sensor. The freeze part is the most useful.

I have an SRC controller with only one terminal for the rain sensor, do I connect both the white and blue wire to that terminal or just one of those wires?
