Learn how to test a Irritrol sprinkler valve solenoid with this step-by-step guide, DIY Tutorial. Maybe you have a zone not coming on and you want to know if the solenoid is still good or has gone bad, this video will show you how to test your Irritrol sprinkler solenoid.
To test the solenoid:
1.Cut the wire splices to access the solenoid wires.
2.Strip the wires and prepare them for multimeter testing.
3.Connect the multimeter leads to the solenoid wires and turn the dial to the Omega symbol, this is the symbol for ohms.
A good Irritrol solenoid should show 25 ohms of resistance. Use this benchmark to troubleshoot and ensure your valves are working correctly.

When you are installing an irrigation system or landscape lighting and need to get under a sidewalk, sometimes the water jet is the way to go. With a spray nozzle on the end of a pvc pipe and connected to a hose, you can bore a hole under the sidewalk. The key is in the set up. Make sure you are boring level so it does not end up real deep on the other side. ✅ SUBSCRIBE HERE : ua-cam.com/users/...

Mine leaks when I open the water
Can you install this on an entire system like after the shut off ball valve? Or does it have to be put on a valve?
What’s the parts used for the ends?
At 9:40 what if I wanted to install a pressure regulator valve or pressure reduction valve. Where would it go? Between backflow and MV?
Scanned the qr code and its a website not an app looks like its for an irrigation timer. Layout is not for a phone.
What we like to use is a brass threaded coupler and then use a schedule 80 male adapter. For some reason we have always had issues with the threaded schedule 40 and 80 coupling to a non plastic fitting. Like a plastic fitting to non plastic on a quick coupler we've had almost zero issues using schedule 40 swing assembly. But I do like the reducer bushing idea looks like it would work even in moderately high pressure situation. And the biggest expense is the go back, if you need to go back so spending the extra money on the fittings is no big deal it's way more expensive to pull someone from another project to send them out to redo work you can't bill for profit killer.
You didn't mention if it matters if the wires are crossed
If you have low water pressure for a task you're trying to accomplish and wanted to use a 3/4" water hose pump or just wanted to use something like a pressure washer, do these anti-siphon, backflow preventers allow airflow into the system? I was just trying to use a water pump and could hear gurgling at the spigot and my water hose kept jetting out air now and then at pretty regular intervals. Thing is, the spigot itself has stamped "anti-siphon" right on top of it. It's not an attachment like you showed.
What happens if there's a crack in one of those Tees? Any advice there?
My drip system keeps turning off. I place timer on manual, it shuts off in seconds. I put irrigation on timer, it turns on, but then shuts off in seconds. Any help??
Thanks! You saved me time and your video was extremely intuitive!
Thanks you for the super thanks! I’m glad it helped!
If I'm tying into a new water meter for my mountain property, is there an advantage to slip vs. threaded? I know the slip can be primed and glued but for a simple water line to a tiny cabin, is there really a difference? I appreciate the straightforward info. Exactly what I needed.
Your lucky u can but them in the ground in my area we can’t and have to install cages around them to prevent theft
it would be good to show how to test without removing the solenoid, since you're typically needed to test before removing it
Thanks for this.
Hi! Love your videos! Have you done a video about what’s the purpose of a master valve that would be awesome! 🤩
Awesome video and I have followed all the steps outlined, including removing the diaphragm seat ring from the old body and replacing it with the ring from the new base that came with the new valve. I hadn't thought of that and hoped it would solve my problem with slow seepage through the new valve bonnet/diaphragm running to the leaking sprinkler head. It didn't and all RainBird tech line told me to do was "replace the whole valve, not just the top". No help at all. Got any ideas on where else water could be getting through the valve to the sprinkler head?
What type of spray nozzle should I have on my edges of the lawn ? 4 or 10 ?
Been a irrigation tech for 4 years now. Been watching since I started. My experience anything between 20 And 60 ohms is a properly operating irritol solenoid. I often see 55 ohms. Verys with different timers iv noticed.
Great video. Thanks!
Was that a constantly pressured line?
The next video will show you how dirt gets into the solenoid valve body, because you didn't remove any of the dirt that has accumulated around sprinkler valve before you begin to service the valve.
You didn’t show anything
Professionals install rains sensors over conduit standing up, oll wire get hidden and the plastic pipe allows you t place it at the best location. No screws or drilling any where is required
How much do you charge ?? In Texas and is 2024
Why are my drip filters (exactly like this one) always leaking, more like spraying water from the bottom of that "top cone" you unscrew to access the filter itself. The filters are clean and I have the top cones screwed down tight. Any tips of how to fix this issue when it happens?
But if you really think this through when you close your valve there is no water coming out .. now how can you put water back to your house through closed valve.. doesn’t make sense to me!
faucet, spigot, water outlet .... HOSE BIB
If it is not the solenoid what is next to check?
Three rivets and plate secured. Good for another 20 years.
That is called “down stream” not down hill
Canadian Tire $29.99. Bought mine 20 years ago. Plate just separated from body. Will try to bolt it together. Works better after rain.
I found your video "extremely" informative....first time having a lawn irrigation system Thank You
Newbee DIY question: How about pouring a small concrete slab at the bottom of the hole that the valves and valve box would sit on? Maybe a couple of holes in the slab to allow for drainage if there was a leak. Seems like it would be a lot cleaner installation.
Great Job dude. Nice video.
Yup.
Thank you, Irrigation pro!!!! Great ideas and excellent video and explanations! I really appreciate your efforts with your channel! Thanks for my subscription!
Thank you! I used it today for the first time... didn't take long at all to clean filters and make adjustments!
How about cleaning that shit out....what a mess.
I’ve been on YT Looking for this exact answer thanks for the video
You are the smartest man alive
Where is the rest of the valve? Is that much dirt normal covering the valve?.
I need that sweater!!!!
How do you find short, sir?
Swapped a damaged solenoid, now my Hunter XC-400 control centre has no display. Help!
Thanks boss
absolutely spot on Kelly.
I like the sharp shooter as well.
When i use to use the trencher, I'd dig a little deeper if possible and not have to clean out much. Maybe just level the fluff some. Hard working man you are Kelly.
BEE nice to them! Don't swat at them for sure....lol
