  • I go over how to put a chainsaw chain back on the correct way after it jumps off. If it still doesn't work well. I go over how to fix the problem of it not staying on or continuing to jump off. Usually, when the chainsaw chain jumps off it creates burrs on it that won't allow it to go back in the bar. Three easy ways to fix this problem. Fixing a drive link with a burr on it.

I file down the burrs. I think the burrs damage the bar.

    G’day mate,
I’ve thrown the chain off my 500i (hardwoods in the north west of Australia aren’t friends with full chisel, I know I shoulda used semi-chisel), however the chain isn’t really burred, one drive link is BENT. What do you recommend? I’ve been told a vice will do it, just worried that might compromise my chain…

Might as well try and straighten it in a vice, I've done that before and it worked well.

By the way, you still climbing man? We often do spikeless climbing for the City to avoid epicormic regrowth. I gave it up after a dude I knew hit himself in the throat with a 201 and bled out. Mad props to the climbing community, it takes skill and guts and is dangerous AF. Happy climbing n cutting, stay safe and Happy New Year

Thanks, I worked for a tree service in Cairns, Queensland probably 30 years ago. Great fun cutting down Palms and eating the heart out.

I got a new 271 i just had my chain pop off i had to file a few drive links running the chain is ok after it slides nice yea? Don’t want to mess up my sprocket or bar.

If it runs in there with plenty of bar oil, it should clean up the burrs

Shouldn’t be an issue with the sprocket? A few drive links lost there Tip

less than helpful. Hand filing those burs (yes, "the right way") takes forever. (2 hours per chain in my unhappy experience) Would be a lot more helpful to explain exactly why these chains fall off, especially on the newer Husqvarnah saws. Oddly enough, I NEVER have this problem with the cheap china saws.... What's gone wrong with Husqi quality? Why does this happen? (exactly -- and puuuhlease, don't ever claim you can just stuff a chain with burs on it back in the groove.... pathway to a dangerous accident)
