Everytime I do something amazing it gets either ignored or attributed to maleness, not femaleness.
I did 100 backhand springs in 4 sets. My name was Emily at the time. That feat was featured on Tim Shief's flow show, where he attributed me HE/ HIM pronouns in front of an audience of THOUSANDS. Did I have testosterone at the time? Yes, yes I did. But did that mean I wasn't using the name Emily, a clearly feminine name?
Did I deserve to be embarrassed by having my achievement being credited to a non existent HE/HIM and my actual gender completely trashed/ ignored?
Mark Toorock of APK refused to correct my deadname in one of my best videos, because he thought I was "rewriting history", not just wanting it to be known that my name is currently Emily and I have a feminine gender, and I don't people to think I'm still cool with a name I hate to see?
Also, Mark Toorock, wanted women on his performance team to be hot, more so than actually skilled. M2 engaged in the commodification of womens bodies. The men on the team didn't need to be hot.
Yeah the parkour world is sexist as fuck. I would not have been cast in the movie Freerunner(2011) if I wasn't for me being pre transition and being able to flex into all of the benefits that testosterone gave me. All the freerunners were written to be men in that movie.
My transition was so revealing, because I had all this attention and success with the help of testosterone, and when I no longer had those advantages, my body stopped being able to operate in that range people respond to , and people act like everything I learned isn't still under the hood. Experience deleted because jump not big no more. In this feminized body, it is the most nonsensical thing imaginable to try to compete with guys, so I won't. Doing what guys do is the only way to get attention from guys if you are a girl. I'm not going to occupy a masculine style when my feminine body tells me quite clearly that I need to find a new path.
I just want men to know that they don't lead the pack for women unless they are following on their own free will. Women lead their own path that makes sense for their bodies. Less strength, more cargo, and more damageable skin. It's a completely different lens to experience parkour though; it will never just be a simple as "try just a little bit harder and you can be like the guys. "

takes a lot of courage to address these types of things. people these days have so much trouble being introspective with their behavior, especially if they have never had to deal with real consequences or life altering problems in their lives

Such a great doc Angus. You've clearly put loads of effort into the presentation, research, and clarity of the whole project. 12 years in the game and I've not really seen a Parkour video like this before. I really hope it gets the recognition it deserves!

Hey there Angus. Thank you for bringing up the topic, I find it very interesting. It has been on my mind for quite some time now, more particularly, I've been interested in male toxicity in parkour. Although I definitely agree that there is a sexist problem in the parkour community, there was one thing that bugged me a little throughout the video. Before starting the video, I was expecting an impartial exploration of the topic, but once it started I immediately got the impression that you were pushing forwards a predetermined narrative, rather than presenting some findings. It makes me somewhat question the scientific validity of the subject. I would have loved to seen something somewhat more impartial, perhaps also questioning men on their views on the topic. The disparity between the results could have been very interesting to see. Anyways, keep up the good work and I look forward to seeing more from you. Perhaps we could work together on something. Is there anywhere I can support your work? Have a nice weekend!

Hey Shiffler, thank you so much for the comment and insights.
I completely agree with you it could definitely be more objective prior to stating any findings, the motivation behind the video came from a place of emotion, initially just looking to discuss it with one or two women in the community. I then made the survey hoping to gather more evidence and make findings more clear. When I creating the questions I didn't want to 'force' answers that made it seem more sexist, I tried to keep them open and just gather genuine experiences as opposed to just 'data' if that makes sense.
I had time constraints on making the video, and really didn't expect much engagement from it. Had I known/In future I know now I could have been far more in depth to make it more valid, and i would love to do something like that in future.
I've waffled a bit, but to summarise I totally agree from a data standpoint it has a lot of flaws, it was just an experiment for me, never done a video like it 🙂
And I would absolutely love to work with you on something and to learn from you!

Yo! I wanted to tell my point of view about it. First, we should consider that womens performance are under male's by nature. Their body (and their souls in a subtle way) are created to give birth... So we don't speak only about sexual attributes like we are used to ear these days (feminism). Of course all this comes with a difference in the way of moving and appropriat/consider parkour. It's not a shame, it's not an issue, it's a fact. So it's OK that in the futur there will be 2 different parkour "worlds" like in gymnastic (male and female) both will be connected but they will be a bit different and they will be as different as women are different to men. Because it's not confortable to be surrounded by men for a woman and the opposite is also true. Love to parkour athletes (tracers) men and women!

    • @AngusUren
      @AngusUren  4 роки тому +2

Hi there thanks for the comment and for watching! I do agree, as many women said in the video, that separate podiums (and classes to some extent) are beneficial. However I don't agree this is because women are 'Under males by nature'. There are women in parkour doing things now that men thought might be impossible only a decade a go.
Just because a womens body can give birth doesn't mean that's the be all and end all for them. We live in a society full of jobs, hobbies, sports and things to achieve, why would women be any less entitled to these just because they can give birth?
Many women expressed they do feel supported in their community surrounded by men, we should aim to make all communities not only inclusive for everyone, but more equal participation as well where possible. Segregating men and women in a training environment only avoids the issue at hand. Hope that makes sense, happy to discuss further and try understand each others views

There are women like me who are doing things now that men CAN't do as of yet. Three of the top male athletes in washington state watched me do a 19 foot hang drop barefoot and didn't follow. I then went on to do a 30 ft hangdrop BAREFOOT. Of course it doesn't count because I'm trans and I'm not pretty. Those drops were done fully transitioned, no testosterone involved.

Usually men consider their domain these character these traits. And when a womsn has one of this characteristics, She has to put ennormous effort(=work) to keep it in function and to gain social status by these qualitys. I think that is what She meant.
