      Definitely will be more! Last major project is upgrading the fuel system. I'm sure at some point I'll have to do a roll bar or cage. So that'll be a fun subject to cover.
      LOL, they crack me up. I have 3. Scarlett is the youngest. They definitely do questionable things I find out about later, but they're just being kids. I told them I can't wait until they get nice things so "I can play with them' ;) Kidding. I'm sure later in life they'll be like, "we're we this way"? In which I video of.

    I would definitely invest in a charge pipe leak checker. Who knows how many pin holes there could be leaking out boost with all the welding and fab work. One thing I noticed looking in my 1.4 engine bay is there seems to be way less stuff between the motor and battery box. Also there is a ton of room from the head down to the steering rack if u made a long runner intake that swooped down towards the steering rack there is a ton of room back there for big volume intake and the throttle body can be much easier to locate near the brake fluid reservoir. With electric power steering our cars have nothing behind the motor but a big empty space

    I hope you kept at it man. Welding gets much easier when you figure out your settings and technique. I have no idea what amperage you were at but on intercooler tubing, I run 85 amps with 250 frequency and 25-30% cleaning action (ac balance). Good luck with your future projects.

    I tig welded a compound system with a everlast ex250 powertig on my ram cummins using ebay aluminum piping. and all vbands flanges, 110 psi at full tilt . I spent 8 hours or so compared to the 5,000$ companys want for my specific setup I say I did great . I did one with silicone boots that would explode 5ply boots constantly prior to.

      Thanks! The machine I'm using only has two settings. One is a low amp setting and the other a higher amp. It's an older Miller and does... eh okay. I've tried different mixes of tungsten and sizes. What I'm currently using seems to be about as good as this machine is going to get it. I'm going to invest in an AC machine in the future that will give me some more flexibility when it comes to aluminum.

    I know this is after the fact, but it helps to bevel the ends of the pipes to be welded together. You will then get a better bond and have a valley to fill in with weld and the welds will be more flat and even.

    • @cmattdabrat
      @cmattdabrat  2 роки тому +1

      Right! Definitely a great tip. Did that with the exhaust / turbo manifold. With the machine I was using, the aluminum tends to work a little different. Since it's a non ferrous metal. Even with the machine at it's lowest setting it wanted to punch through too easy. I'm going to get a more modern machine for future builds that can handle more tasks.

    3:30... it looks better than mine... I ended up having to use stainless because my charge pipe is mild steel and my flange was stainless steel so I use 308L ...your welds still look better than mine I have even a small gap and it ends up blowing through... that's the biggest issue with me... fit up and blowing through or burning out metal

      I appreciate it, and thanks for the tip. Definitely takes repetition to make some nice looking welds. I can make them strong and hold, just need to keep putting in practice. My main issue is not having a proper work space, and my hands aren't the steadiest lol.
