DeWalt DCD 771 Drill/Driver, DCF 885 Impact Driver review. Likes and dislikes

- it only took a few day and i knew just what i liked and didn't like about my new DeWalt tools.
A little Note: I went on amazon and bought a bit holder for both and belt clip for the drill for about $15.
Still think that the belt clip should be standard

Change the battery that has the indicator on it

I have the porter cable combo! and I really love it!
PC was my first new impact driver. Only thing I didn't like was it had only 1LED. That was the main reason I got the DeWalt. Other than that I prefer my PC over DeWalt. Thanks for viewing.
If you get the brushless dewalt drills they come with different batteries that you can see how much charge is in them
Hey brother I own the dewalt dcd771 and the impact driver as well. Unfortunately this is the budget home owners set. The DCD 780 comes with the belt clip and bit holder and charge indicator on the batteries. We do have the option to buy the belt clip and bit holder separate and add it to the battery so that's cool but I to wish it just came with it. There's never been a better time to be a DeWalt owner now that their flex power line of tools dropped though! All the new batteries (with charge indicator) are backwards compatible with the drill/impact set we have! Capable cordless reciprocating, table, and miter saws now exist and DeWalt is leading the way!
Hi did your dcd780 throw some sparks during the break in process? Also does your replacement dcd780 chuck still makes that noise thanks.
+sheba6779 sorry for the delay in response i was in Japan. The spark issue well I still see sparks in the housing body if I look inside. Throwing them outside no, actually never. If yours is throwing them outside I’d return it. Sparks are the nature, I believe, of the brushed motors. The noise, the drill only makes a click noise when the break clutch engages, nothing like the faults drill I returned. All is good with DeWalt. Thank you for viewing and the comment.
Brushed motors spark. It’s a given. I hope this helps alleviate any future anxieties!
I think you can use newer Dewalt 20 volt batteries with charge indicators with older drills such as the 771, etc. Also Dewalt has an adapter that allows use of newer 20 volt lithium batteries with older drills that orig. used NiCad. Only requires you have a 20 volt Dewalt lithium charger.
Battery pack have changed quite a bit, the newer lithium battery packs have the balance charging circuitry built into the battery pack. Balance charging each the cells between one another is important so that the entire battery pack is properly charged and becomes more efficient lasting longer.
3:18 the reason why there's a belt clip on the smaller unit but not the bigger unit is because of weight. Firstly, it's uncomfortable to carry the larger unit on the belt, and 2nd is legal - if that drops on your foot you're going to get hurt and sue DeWalt...at least that's what the hardware store owner said.
just wondering if your impact driver sparks alot inside the motor housing? just got this set for Christmas and the impact driver sparks like crazy!
+Brendan McGhee Run, Run fast and take it back. No seriously if you’re talking about the left or right side of the impact at the rear of the tool that’s normal. Mine does the same and has a little odor. I thought after a few months the break in smell would go away but still exists. Spark is just the brushes generating the power through electricity. On other forums and posts many have asked the same question so you’re not alone. Also it’s been said the smell is just residue or oils burning off. If you get a smell that’s normal also and should dissipate over time, so they say.Merry Christmas and congrate on the tool
+Brendan McGhee Oh!, it is normal if its inside the body. If its sparking enough to shoot out the body, I think I’d be concerned and might take it back.
Brushed tools spark. It’s a given. I hope this helps alleviate any future anxiety when purchasing/receiving brushed tools!
I have both the combo kits and I have the same drill when lowes screwed you over they did give you that clip I have friends with those drills they have a clip

No, I pretty much don’t go to Lowe's anymore. I found a combo on Amazon. 2 clips and 2 bit holders I ended up buying for about $15. I just thought that it should be somewhat industry standard they throw in a belt hook.
It’s a no brainier to me. They could get them in huge quantities and throw them in. Heck, add a buck or two if need be. Even base model it should be a given, at least in my book. Customers like the little things.
Which one do you like better Porter Cable or Dewalt?
GR its a tossup. I prefer my PC over the DeWalt drill without a doubt. But the impact it depends. I like my PC better but when I come across a dim low lit work area where I need more light I'll use the DeWalt due to the 3 LED lights. Other than that I do tend to use my PC more often.
Thanks for your quick reply, I'm going to buy the PC, I was considering a factory refurb but the company had horrible reviews. A bird in the hand is better than two in the bush so to speak.

i got the set on sale yesterday and return it today wasnt what i expected
I like some of the dewalt but not that impressed with this set. You can get a set of brushless Porter Cable at Lowes for $150 i actually like better. Hope you find what you like,
Buy one of those Bluetooth dewalt battery's it will tell you everything you need to know about the battery even temperature
Yesterday @ B&Q Cork got these type or build 10 for €230.
My DCD776 is not so far displaying the break crack as bad as yours. Still no belt Clip or Bit Holder!!!
My DCF885 has the belt clip AND a magnetic bit holder. :)
Incidentally the DCD776 is not qualifying for the 3 year extended warranty. The DCF885 has. !!?
Magnetic bit holder? Sounds like they took a page from the Porter Cable play book. My PC has 2 magnetic bit holders on it and a belt clip. At least they are adding some basic features. Thanks for viewing and the info. Have to keep up to date on DeWalts progress, even way across the pond.
