At Marty d- I asked Mike if he wanted me and the band to get quite when he solos and he said no. He tends not to like the typical very quite band when the the bass solos routine . I asked him a few times about it. Don't forget this an art form. There are no rules and every gig is different. It's always great to play with Mike. He is one of the best for sure.
I kinda agree in this case, maybe is bad audio but i had a hard time hearing what mike was doing even with headphones on. They should lower their volume when another player is soloing.
this is strictly only a guess but maybe he thinks the slightly added weight would add to his tone, personally the strings floating around would drive me nucking futts.
