I played this full blast during the Lunar eclipse on January 20, 2019. It was -4°f, in a pitch black field and I was 90% sure I was being stalked by some wild animal that night. The experience was terrifying and unreal
12:43 onward, that grinding malevolent bass note underlying the insane iterations of the treble is stunning. The subtleties of what goes on around the bass and guitar-work: those thin higher notes, is really interesting. The whole song is astonishingly powerful.
Blasting this while reading Dune. Harsh waterless desert and its gigantic sand worms. Interplanetary feuds between barons, dukes and emperors. Advanced technology but conservative and majestic culture. Epic prophecies and psychic heroes. Endless waterless desert... Sand worms...
This song makes me think of Lovecraftian horrors, incomprehensible abominations as old as the universe itself rising out of the empty black void, coming to claim their dominion over all things.
i’ve always thought that about Sunn O)) as well. their songs sound like lovecraftian rituals in order to either summon, or lock away abominations. they could also just be a representation of what it’s like in the outer chaos dimensions, just turned into audio form. even the ceremonial robes they wear when they’re performing feed into these ideas.
That's common for people who aren't yet used to drone music and Sunn (at least in my opinion) are more drone than they are metal. If you want to transition smoother- I'd recommend bands like Boris who are similar to Sunn but are more traditional and accessible due to their inclusion of drums in records like "Amplifier Worship". Boris has actually collaborated with Sunn in the album "Altar"; check it out if you're interested.
I mean that's a totally fair way to feel about it. I love their stuff, but I don't think you're missing anything. I just like the sparseness and the trance it kinda puts me in. Sometimes I think of it more like an ear massage than a song lol. But yeah definitely not for everyone, which is totally fine : )
+Michael Brush In my experience with this type of bands, listen to them and just wait. There will come a day when your brain will say "hey, let's get back to this!". And you'll feel it then.
Personally, I think drums, and vocals will ruin the experience of the song, Sunn O))) does have songs with lyrics, but, this song is truly better without.
That would completely ruin the song from me. The reason I think that this is one of the best Sunn songs is how desolate, cold, and lonely it is. The lack of any structure or rhythm makes me imagine like I'm slowly drifting in space with absolutely no control over which direction I'm heading. Some may say that it's a matter of execution but I disagree. This song is perfect the way it is.

First song, first studio album, and still probably one of their most immersive pieces. What a mission statement!
Don't sleep on the Grimmrobe Demos.

A song for Richard
I'm new to listening to this band. I love what I've heard so far, but it seems like it's always an intro. Like, I'm waiting for the song to kick in.

Yes, their solos are in the intros.

My soundtrack to reading Moby dick
Similar to "Black Wedding" but more precise; not as much static
So Dark.
This song is a musical rendition of Richard Dawkins' blasphemous and tormented psyche, hence the name.

Your such a know nothing dick.
Hits different in 0,25 speed
It's like yog sothoth thinking
one person is wrong...
These heavy grooves cut me like a knife; nay, it's more like psychic surgery
When does the song start?
I've tried and tried, but just can't get into these guys.
I tried once and I'm into them.
There is no try. You listened.

I don't know what type of music this is (and quite frankly I don't care) but I do love the weird and wonderful. Sadly, this is neither.
Ya sound like a bummer
@the bolt thrower some say there were no bass guitars used in the making of this here song.
Dunn o svcks! Everyone makes a big deal about their boring music

who is Dunn o
@@merz-fe7ny Idk but all i know is that they svck
This is good, but it needs sum lyrics or drums
