Holy shit. I forgot Andy was there and I love watching him. This woman was so fascinating and was so captivating. My heart hurt for her during her 9-11 recount.
Her 9/11 story brought me to tears. I grew up across the water and watched for weeks as the fire burned. A couple friends parents were buried alive. Its a day that will live in my memory forever.
I was in WI. I remember the crisp air. The shock. I will never forget. I'm not a New Yorker.. you are still my people ♥. Thoes 1st responders knew they weren't coming back. I still can't believe that shit happened.

Absolutely fabulous interview, Andy. Evy's 911 story was gripping, especially the number of bodies leaping from the upper tower. I worked with a guy, post 911, that made it down the stairs and out the front doors of tower 2, only to have a body land right next to him on the sidewalk. He took his family, left New York, hoping to find someplace with no tall buildings to fly planes into, or people jumping out of. The Outback is perfect. Nothing over about 12 feet tall here, other than maybe a tree. Thanks again.
@@la3615 Embarrassment not necessary. The "outback" is sort of a locals thing. The view is similar and the summer heat can be brutal. What we have over the down under version is lots and lots of winter. No kangaroos, but we do have the occasional sheep. It's beautiful, especially if you enjoy lots of "middle of nowhere".

It brought me right back to exactly where I was in that moment (I was only in 7th grade but remember vividly.) The feelings of gratitude for my fellow First Responders and our Law Enforcement officers should go back to the way it was following such a tragic event :( But I really appreciate hearing your first hand experience being on the "front line" then. My son was at “ the children’s hospital “, after 9/11, during the Olympics, very interesting, intense especially when President Bush Jr. came through with all the snippers protecting us. The eye awakened moment when I truly realized, Our country will forever need strength, and we all need to have backbones. Big difference of having backbones than the ones that panic and harm. As a average everyday person what to watch for in your day things to key on or ignore. How to identify a possible threat or bad situation to avoid or even when to engage. Would be an awesome conversation between yourself and Jocko.

Ranging from what to look for to what to do when you actually need to act. He is a Army SF. Also fought MMA. Deff look up the Jocko podcast he was on.

This was a happy suprise. Thank you for this thought provoking podcast and inspiring story. Disecting dichotomies of two different service careers from the perspectives of both a man and a woman was riveting. It always come down to strategy and training.
Andy's comments are weird sometimes, yes. Saying bad things about Canadiana, what is it ? Some Canadian girl dropped him and he can not forget ? Sweared also in front of Evy, live alone 'interesting day', yes.
Yeah his reaction to her 9/11 story was pretty weird. Almost like he just had no emotion or reaction to it. Maybe that’s what war did to him (perhaps when you see enough of that stuff it doesn’t affect you so much anymore). It’s not for me to judge, far far from it. Also perhaps he has already heard her story as they know each other, so it’s not like he just heard it the first time. Maybe he just didn’t want to make it emotional and upset her, so he kept it objective as he said he always does (that makes sense to me).
This may be the best, most phenomenal and thought provoking UA-cam & podcast I’ve heard and seen! Engaging and thought-provoking listening. Evy surely has a lot of lived experience and important insights to share. The reality is that the media showing the routine, grassroots, everyday work of the vast majority of law enforcement work, just isn't sensational nor outrageous enough. Further, it just doesn't result in views, nor advertising revenue. To change the narrative, the general public has to become re-engaged within a social context that encourages all 'stakeholders' that we are all in this together, for the long haul.
I grew up in a STRESSFUL household. I operate under stress well. I've always wondered if children who grow up in this environment would make good officers/soldiers?
I'm not surprised, but the comments on this particular interview have far more people proclaiming that Evy is the best interview they've heard, I agree.

Sad to hear that law enforcement get treated so poorly when they will come help us when needed. They put up with rude people having bad days every day. Just think about it. There pay is low to put up with the stuff they put up with daily. Something to ponder instead of listening to horrible news journalists and some politicians who want us to be so divided and hateful to each other.

I did much service work locally in my country & 2yrs abroad, also 16hr days the entire Masters degree & etc so that I may be better equipped to be of service. Coming out of a bleak bottomless chasm, I can hear these two talk endlessly. It affirms that living with purpose can be more refined within ourselves and to not give way to a cold detached side of humanity that sees it's service workers as expendable fodder. Grateful! that 9/11 story was intense. i was a young kid watching it all go down from my apartment window in midtown, and not really knowing what the fuck was going on, but im really happy we had men and women down there like Evy who did what they could during that crisis. I mean that story was so engaging, ive never listened to a podcast so intently... It wasnt even that though, the entire podcast was engaging. I havent watched a full podcast without skipping a least a little bit of it in at least a year lmao. This was the first in a long time.
I was 6 at the time of 9/11 and I knew what was going on, my dad was part of the welders who went out there to help, but hearing her say that the new generations that were not born until later on and that they don't have that connection, they see it as a far away history made me felt like I am the last generation to appreciate all the help of a almost forgotten history and that life, time and space is ready to forget about 9/11 or have started, because no one in these days (on the 9/11 memorial day) even mentions about what they were doing on that day. 10 years back everyone on school, park, table would talk about. Time has changed
I remember this episode. I was extremely impressed with Evy: 1) She was willing to take on challenges, like wanting to be paired with a big guy for unarmed take-down practice, and equally important 2) She knew her limitations. She knows she's no match for medium or big guys, so she has to get creative. I've got far more respect for women, and especially small ones like Evy, who accept they'll never be door-kickers but who are still willing to take some lumps.

At 40:00 minutes you described my 4 tours in Iraq and Afghanistan perfectly, I was not afraid to take a life, I was afraid of the legal ramifications I might face... IN A COMBAT ZONE! My God I hate Bush and Obama so much. We were literally handcuffed when it came to ROE!
I was 11 years old when 9/11 happened. I was on my way out the door with my backpack on to go to school when I saw the first tower hit. Went through the rest of the day at school with teachers TRYING not to talk about it. 8 years later I joined the army. I have nothing but love and respect to everyone that was there that day and everyone who was affected by 9/11.
This was fascinating, I'm never around people who have served in the way you guys have I really enjoyed listening to your perspectives and yes I listened to the whole thing
I just got to this podcast... the portion on news media, being not news its something I've been thinking a lot about. When I was younger, in the 80's there were what 3 news stations, each with a single anchor, who's job was to report the news, but also present it in a way that lessened fear... as time when on those anchors were exchanged for the one who had a more appealing look or emphasis... now its panels of opinion, debates and editorial statement... and a push for ratings, not to mention the multitude of "news sources" worldwide. The consequence is a schizophrenia of voices and directives and the result is now seen in the anxiety, even mental disorders, panic, and paranoia that we are currently experiencing... I've really enjoyed the perspectives and stories on this podcast!
Dude... They polygraphed me at Jackson back in 06 during basic training, they had a little building right next to the water park. However I wasn't a holdover and still graduated and had a successful enlistment in the army, guess they are changing the prerequisites now.

Engaging and thought-provoking listening. Evy surely has a lot of lived experience and important insights to share. The reality is that the media showing the routine, grassroots, everyday work of the vast majority of law enforcement work, just isn't sensational nor outrageous enough. Further, it just doesn't result in views, nor advertising revenue. To change the narrative, the general public has to become re-engaged within a social context that encourages all 'stakeholders' that we are all in this together, for the long haul.

I grew up in a STRESSFUL household. I operate under stress well. I've always wondered if children who grow up in this environment would make good officers/soldiers?

There is no expertise in lie detection according to most of the science on the subject and polygraphs are security theater. It's 50/50.
Sad to hear that law enforcement get treated so poorly when they will come help us when needed. They put up with rude people having bad days every day. Just think about it. There pay is low to put up with the stuff they put up with daily. Something to ponder instead of listening to horrible news journalists and some politicians who want us to be so divided and hateful to each other.

Oh Yes most definitely. I did much service work locally in my country & 2yrs abroad, also 16hr days the entire Masters degree & etc so that I may be better equipped to be of service. Coming out of a bleak bottomless chasm, I can hear these two talk endlessly. It affirms that living with purpose can be more refined within ourselves and to not give way to a cold detached side of humanity that sees it's service workers as expendable fodder. Grateful! Thank you Evy & Andy.

that 9/11 story was intense. i was a young kid watching it all go down from my apartment window in midtown, and not really knowing what the fuck was going on, but im really happy we had men and women down there like Evy who did what they could during that crisis. I mean that story was so engaging, ive never listened to a podcast so intently... It wasnt even that though, the entire podcast was engaging. I havent watched a full podcast without skipping a least a little bit of it in at least a year lmao. This was the first in a long time.

I was 6 at the time of 9/11 and I knew what was going on, my dad was part of the welders who went out there to help, but hearing her say that the new generations that were not born until later on and that they don't have that connection, they see it as a far away history made me felt like I am the last generation to appreciate all the help of a almost forgotten history and that life, time and space is ready to forget about 9/11 or have started, because no one in these days (on the 9/11 memorial day) even mentions about what they were doing on that day. 10 years back everyone on school, park, table would talk about. Time has changed
great show, the world needs more Andy's, Evy's and of course Joe's.
I remember this episode. I was extremely impressed with Evy: 1) She was willing to take on challenges, like wanting to be paired with a big guy for unarmed take-down practice, and equally important 2) She knew her limitations. She knows she's no match for medium or big guys, so she has to get creative. I've got far more respect for women, and especially small ones like Evy, who accept they'll never be door-kickers but who are still willing to take some lumps.
Damn homie she pretty and smart that's an easy sell to anyone. Whoa. Ans not to mention she has a super personality and she's a badass. And I'm here this long we are all listening

At 40:00 minutes you described my 4 tours in Iraq and Afghanistan perfectly, I was not afraid to take a life, I was afraid of the legal ramifications I might face... IN A COMBAT ZONE! My God I hate Bush and Obama so much. We were literally handcuffed when it came to ROE!

I was 11 years old when 9/11 happened. I was on my way out the door with my backpack on to go to school when I saw the first tower hit. Went through the rest of the day at school with teachers TRYING not to talk about it. 8 years later I joined the army. I have nothing but love and respect to everyone that was there that day and everyone who was affected by 9/11.

I just got to this podcast... the portion on news media, being not news its something I've been thinking a lot about. When I was younger, in the 80's there were what 3 news stations, each with a single anchor, who's job was to report the news, but also present it in a way that lessened fear... as time when on those anchors were exchanged for the one who had a more appealing look or emphasis... now its panels of opinion, debates and editorial statement... and a push for ratings, not to mention the multitude of "news sources" worldwide. The consequence is a schizophrenia of voices and directives and the result is now seen in the anxiety, even mental disorders, panic, and paranoia that we are currently experiencing...

Dude... They polygraphed me at Jackson back in 06 during basic training, they had a little building right next to the water park. However I wasn't a holdover and still graduated and had a successful enlistment in the army, guess they are changing the prerequisites now.
