I have come to the conclusion that the judges must own the program. What other reason would they continue to be so called judges for this many seasons.
From past years I have noticed that the art in the competition is off center, but the overall winner does the final commission in a style and medium very much more traditional and different than their competition pieces.
Well, when the final person is selected and the episode where the artist/sitter work together, its truly wonderful. The comissioned picture is excellent. Admit that the road is bumpy; judges make bad choices and sound silly, but at least the end result, the last episode, is terrific.
13:32 I don’t like the black lines on the edges of each block of color or shape. I think the piece would be much more powerful without that, like a collage of geometric shapes.
2 of the final 3 did not deserve to be picked for the position ...and the 3rd choice should have won, but did not ///there were others that deserved a final 3 position more than these did ...Boo to the judges in this go round
I refuse to believe that this is the best the UK has to offer. I watch the intro and the end with the sound off, shaking my head. I don't know how much they pay the sitters but it is not enough to have to pretend to like paintings that are insulting.
I'm always debating whether or not to watch, because the creative process is something totally alien to me. But then, I'm so often disappointed because I always gravitate to realism, and so many of the artists & then the judges, favor mashed paintings. It's so UGH for me. Why did I watch? It's for those rare few who give me what I was hoping to see, with fingers crossed that at least one of them would get chosen. Occasionally a beauty gets chosen to go home, phew!
@alanatolstad4824 , I'm an award winning portrait artist, so the creative process isn't alien to me. AND, *I feel the same way you do.* Every time I finish watching one of these episodes, I ask myself why I bothered. Rarely does the most accomplished artist win. These judges wouldn't choose a painting by Michaelangelo, DaVinci, or Rembrandt as the winner. They despise classical realism. But I guess...when it comes to these judges...it's like those that can, do. Those that can't, criticize, mock, and pick crummy paintings, huh?
Sometimes the judges pick a really great piece but this time their selection of three was particularly bad.
As usual a lot of word salad from the “judges” before picking the worst one 😡
Word salad is a good description.
Once again judges got it WRONG 🖕🏿🖕🏽🖕👎🏽
They always are.
I’m waiting for a contestant to say to the judges “I’d be further along if you would move along”.
I still love this show. I find myself on repeat of episodes constantly. I need to art more that watch art, but what fun is that?
I love Morag’s work & want to see more, truly, honestly
Don’t worry you will stay tuned 😉

So, I love the show, the participating artists, but I've decided not to watch the judging anymore. I never agree with them.
I know ,they’re on a different plain.they choose the weirdest ones.

@@lorenknowles1521Thanks for sharing this. I agree. The winners of previous years created magnificent final portraits. Great point.
I loved the comment "It doesn't just look like Fred's eye, it looks like Fred."
I wish Kitty won. Her self-portrait was a tour de force.

Touches of Egon scheile in the winner - worthy winner, though I like Kitty's equally.
Love portrait artist of the year! Thanks for posting.
15:24 this is the most imaginative painter out of them all.
agreed!!!!!! the best everrrrr
I maybe don’t understand art but Julia’s painting reminded me of a Sesame Street character.
Art equals Gül Nihal, I think 🐸
The winner was a disappointing choice
Fred!!!!!
Fantastic artists!

Can Indian artists participate?

@@AFAskygoddess Thank-you for chiming in!
Some awful paintings .2 made the woman sitter look like a man ,The black man no likeness ,and the eye though very good it’s not a portrait .

I would suggest the top 3 paintings to be chosen by the sitters, and then the winner by the judges.
Or not.
Great great great episode. So interested in the taste view and the accomplishment of a turn in the moment sort of taste to me was thrilling. ❤❤❤
Amazing, he has painted music dancing on light
Difficult choices but great final choice!
I really enjoyed so many of the artists today. Very inspiring.
Morag is a hawtie!
Ty 😊
