  • Possibly the best voice actor ever, here's Agnes Moorehead in one of her over THIRTY episodes of Suspense. She earned the title "The 1st Lady of Suspense" after her performances in "Sorry, Wrong Number" and "Yellow Wallpaper."
She goes wild in this one, as her sister (just released from a mental institution) turns the tables . . . Cleverly locking HER up!
    August 16, 1949
✓ FYI & STUFF Agnes Moorehead began her radio career with Orson Welles Mercury Theater. In the 1960's she became the irritating mother-in-law law on TV's "Bewitched. Apparently, all of the witches on that show had names that ended with the letter "A" - For example: Tabatha Samantha Endora Pandora Glendora etc etc etc (Angora?)

Orson Welles once said Agnes Moorehead was one of the greatest Actresses in America. Agnes Moorehead worked together for 17 years and she, Joseph Cotton and Orson Welles were the first Board members of the famous Mercury Theater players.

You need to read my descriptions! Scroll down the "STUFF and SUCH" Dept. (I don't ALWAYS provide trivial information on an upload, but most often I try to put something interesting)

How do I get to the "STUFF and SUCH" Dept.? Do I go to the Suspense & ESCAPE above, and is it located there? Guide me on this one, as I am not great at computers. It is like a UA-cam video I watched today about 2 young people trying to dial a telephone number on a Rotary phone. I think it took them 7 minutes and was quite revealing as to the technology of today and how the older people for the most part are not good at it and the young grasp it from the cradle onward!@@SuspenseESCAPEremastered

@@richardmcleod5967 Just read the description under every one of my uploads! I didn't even know how to upload until 2 years ago, and my computer experience is still quite limited. Computer knowledge comes with use and over time. The old phones were so big, too! I recall my parents phone number, it was "Crestwood 8-4881" (early 60's) And you could dial '0' and get instant assistance!

I still have one 1947 Black Western Electric Rotary Telephones (like in the movies) which has the best sound of any phone I own and it never goes dead and needs no battery. It is a land line. I bought it years back at a Thrift Store. People call me and want to know what type of cell phone I am using as the volume and sound was "loud and clear".
When I tell them they are in shock. All they while they are worrying about their batteries going dead and whether or not it would cut out.
I have never gotten accustomed to the cell phones, as with the old Rotary one's I like the large handle (like in "Sorry, Wrong Number" as I know where to speak and place the earphone instead of just talking into the air. SWN would loose a great deal of its' charm if she was talking on a cell phone. And you are right, when in doubt, I just dial '0", get the operator and she handles it from that point onward. It still works that way. Really much simpler to use than a cell phone.
I knew how to work my old Apple computer very well, took all the courses when I got it and was getting good in using it, then it went out of favor so I had to get a new Apple which changed all the rules around and I have been lost ever since. What was the use of taking a course when what you were learning was going to change before you could get out the door.
Technology changes so quickly today, for me it it hard to keep up with it. Courses don't help as they are constantly changing how you work the new one's, so what was learned previously is no longer applicable. I actually use my old Rotary phone more than the others, as they just seem more civilized, they never go dead (this one is 72 years old) and they are more private with much less hacking happening on them. @@SuspenseESCAPEremastered

+Richard McLeod Well, I didn't have a "Hand Held Device" until 2014, and rarely used our PC. I do have a cell phone, but RARELY use it. I only take it with me if I go somewhere. I will never give up my land line, especially since I've had the same (unique and very easy to remember) number for 40 years. I do not let technology dictate my life, and until it breaks I won't replace my tablet, even though I have a lot of nagging problems. I'm not familiar with Apple, but I did consider it. I cannot change now. Hopefully, you've been able to scroll down thru my descriptions. I don't always provide "useless trivia," but I do try to share the things I do know and use humor when ever possible. My humor keeps me going, because if I didn't have humor facing one crisis after another I'd fold. Because these types of things keep occurring, I have to step away from creating programs to upload. Also, I've uploaded all of the best episodes of Suspense, because after 1955 there are few episodes that are really good (also many do-overs of previously done stories) I rarely upload those duplicates or repeats unless there's a good reason. Also, I've uploaded all of the Escape episodes (but am planning on replacing some of my older uploads because sound quality keeps improving) All but a handful of my Escape episodes are uploaded in High Quality audio already. I have a "secret source" for those. I do some audio enhancement on every upload, such as aways equalizing the volume levels. When it comes to technology, it sounds like we have much in common! (Along with a passion for great radio) I plan on adding more series this year, but I promise to continue to upload quality over quantity. I am probably not going to "commercialize" my channel, even though I now qualify for monetization. I could earn perhaps $70 a month, and even though I could use any extra income I think that loud and irritating ads would ruin my channel. I appreciate your comments in interesting info. Please continue to contribute . . . You'll find that there's a good bunch of loyal subscribers here! Also, I'll always respond, even though sometimes it may take a while. Fell free to ask any questions, and I'll share any knowledge I DO have - Or make it up! (not really) Thanks again - Charlie

Charlie - I think you and most anyone fond of old radio dramas would relish "Two O'clock Eastern Wartime". More than a mystery, it's a novel, set in 1942, most all the characters being the writers, actors, technicians etc of dramas and other programming at a New Jersey coast radio station. John Dunning, the author, also wrote "On the Air: The Encyclopedia of Old-Time Radio".

I'm a great fan of old time radio dramas. A local radio station re-airs them one night a week, and I usually tune in, but with the frequent and long commercial interruptions, online programs such as yours are far preferable. I wish it were otherwise: that radio was still the medium, but I'm so grateful for what you and others provide. Almost never do I chime in with comments but sense that I'm amongst friends who would appreciate this share/question: Know of John Dunning's novel, "Two O'clock, Eastern Wartime"?

Thanks. I appreciate your comments, and thanks for listening to my uploads. I became a fan of Classic Radio about twenty years ago. I still listen to programs every night. Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with Dunning's book. However, every time I hear an announcer say "war time" it gets me to thinking about that era. My dad served during WWII. The air is crisply cool with dramatic sunsets…now is the time for ghost stores and fantasy! Perhaps two radio play ghost stories I’ve produced AND a brand new mystery listed on my channel “Claude Chabot Presents” right here on YT AND a radio fantasy comedy, “A Trip to the Moon” starring Joyce Randolph of The Honeymooners, which features Larry Robinson, who, as a child actor, actually worked with Orson Welles. Here’s the link: ua-cam.com/video/Hex2ltykNTM/v-deo.html--Claud. If you don’t want to click the link just search “Claude Chabot presents” on UA-cam.

Remember her as Lauren Bacall's nosy, vindictive 'friend' in 'Dark Passage' (where Bogart breaks out of San Quentin and gets his face changed; tries to clear his name). Leapord-skin from head to toe...right down to her voice.

hippiekarl7 Are you imagining Agnes Moorehead in leopard skin? :-) Seriously, who could forget Bacall? I've seen the movie, like most Bogart movies, more than once. ALSO - You must check out my cover-art on Escape's "The Drums of the Fore and Aft" it's right up your alley!

Agnes Moorehead had a large leopard rug in her beautiful home in Beverly Hills on Roxbury Drive, which is still there.@@SuspenseESCAPEremastered

Agnes had a flair for the dramatic in her decorating tastes as well- the aforementioned🐆rug was one of several she owned (not all actual skins, thank heavens)
Because of her star turn in🐆& her feline fondness, fans often leave 🐆gravegifts when visiting her mausoleum in Ohio

There are a lot of Suspense episodes in which Agnes Moorehead is an increasingly panicked woman who reveals through the episode that she isn't exactly a nice person. This one certainly got me intrigued, and Moorehead is as usual, great, although the ending seems kind of implausible.
