  • Is AGNES MOOREHEAD Criminally Insane? . . OR, plain old ordinary insanity? Whichever it is, she's the perfect actress for this role (which by the way, was written with HER in mind by previous Suspense producer-director William Spears) This one was directed by "Mr. Radio" Elliott Lewis.
Audio quality is only fair, but listenable.

Orson Welles once said Agnes Moorehead was one of the greatest Actresses in America. Agnes Moorehead and Orson Welles worked together for 17 years and she, Joseph Cotton and Orson Welles were the first Board members of the famous Mercury Theater players.

I must agree that Agnes certainly earned the title "1st Lady of Suspense," but between you and me, I couldn't stand her character as the mother-in-law on TV's Bewitched! She plays an important role in my upload of of the 7-part radio series "Les Miserables" produced by Welles and co. If you've never listened to it, it's well worth it. - Charlie

Like so many Stars when asked about a certain work or medium they may have been working, the answer seems to always be the same........they always answer that "they did it for the money". And I am sure Agnes Moorehead made a great deal of money from her work on "Bewitched" as the show was so popular and did well in the rankings. It certainly made her much more known to the public than her radio, movie or stage work had done.
Considering the sophisticated works such as "Don Juan In Hell" and her portrayal of Wanda Landowska, I feel sure Agnes Moorehead felt the same way, but she had to maintain and furnish that beautiful home she had in Beverly Hills and that took money. Even Sir Lawrence Olivier said the only reason he made movies was to provide the money he needed to live the life standards he desired and that the Stage could not provide that money The Stage was his first love and it just may have been the same case with Agnes Moorehead as she talks so enthusiasticly about her work with Charles Laughton, Cedric Hardwick and Charles Boyer in "Don Juan In Hell". Also, she had great appreciation for the great dramatic works, and in this case George Bernard Shaw. Didn't she also have a PhD. in Literature?
Her home had been built by (and was previously the home of the noted musical composer), Sigmund Romberg and was on the famed Roxbury Drive in Beverly Hills with next door neighbors being Ginger Rogers, Gary Cooper James Stewart, Jack Benny, Rosemary Clooney, Lucille Ball and heaven only knows who else. @@SuspenseESCAPEremastered

@@richardmcleod5967 It's interesting you mentioned Sir "Larry" he and Orson Welles were friends. Yes, Agnes was educated. When she was on Bewitched, I was just a kid. I also hated "Dr. Smith" on Lost in Space! (Of course, today, I can't stand to watch 5 min. of Lost in Space!) Did you figure out how to read my program descriptions?

I liked this story. With all the news of individuals that kill in schools, churches and places of life to others...this character morally died at the loss of another's life. I may seem morbid but...I need this popular again!

Lauren Stygar I don't know if you're morbid, but a lot if the Suspense episodes truly are. Real life tradjedy is always unnerving. Fortunately these shows exist for entertainment, a form of escapism. I sure wish I could've interviewed the writers and producers back then. I would love to pick their brains to find out how they came up with some of the stories. Check out all the episodes in my "Creepy Collection." Most of THOSE are certainly thought-provoking. Also, thank you for subscribing.

Hello-I have realized that I am riveted in suspense about will the character survive! People that want the loss of life on any level have no idea I am endless open to my self preservation and the shows are just social engagement of an obvious nature to live! There needs to be the episodes of I never leave living! News cast for people that do not want life loss. It is Armageddon that it must be explained!

Did this Spear guy produce most of the early episodes? I really like the early ones, but anyways, it's nice to see he was able to move on from all that terrible Nazi mess he was involved in.

    • @SuspenseESCAPEremastered

Spear was producer-director from late 1942 until around '47 (sorry for late response but I don't get notifications)
