This video really speaks for itself and I don't want to give away too much here other than to say that the Violet Hour is probably one of my favorite bars in the country that I've been to. Everything from the concept to the program and execution really is on point. It speaks to my own aesthetic of simplicity and it really shows how much can be done within those confines. This is probably one of my favorite series to do, I fins it so fun, and informative to explore different bar programs, make their drinks and spark our creativity. I hope you all do too.
Enjoy! And do yourself a favor and mix a couple of these, they're well worth it!

Challenge for you…. Make the Violet Hour Mala Colada recipe! Amazing drink and you get to use Sichuan pepper corns.
Been a big fan recently of the videos cutting off mid sentence like the finale of the Sopranos
The Violet Hour is a gem. Amazing staff and cocktails. Plus you have Doves and Big Star across the street. Amazing place.
@@djsugarc1075 ah that would explain their 9 James Beard awards and why it’s always crowded. That would also explain why the James Beard Foundation selected them for their happy hour at this year’s awards ceremony. Your comment leads me to believe you know very little about the Chicago food scene.
Love this channel!
thank you for these creative cocktails.
I find your content to be extremely informative and well made. I enjoy your opinions on the cocktails and bars. The tasting notes segment truly makes the viewer feel like they are sipping themselves. I have made a few of the cocktails you present from other bars in the bar I work at for friends or curious drinkers while also giving the name of the bartender and bar they were created at and many enjoy this information. Thanks a bunch! Keep up the great content!
Bro this is the perfect cocktail vid. Cool bar recommendation + history, thorough explanation of the style about to be attempted, live reactions to interesting new drinks, etc. Keep it up!!
Also much more detailed, complex, and intricate cocktails that most channels would not dare cover
Can't wait to try these! And it's always good to see more long-form videos on this channel again.
Love this style of video. Highlighting cocktails that originated at specific bars!
Amazing video as always, I wanna recreate the amaros and sorrows so bad, it looks amazing.
Also.. I think you guys cut it a bit early? video got cut when you were saying "I don't really know if you guys have..."
Tack!
I add an egg white into the Juliet and Romeo as it gives its a whisky sour head on it and the textures better. Makes the mint and bitters presentation even better.
The handle bent cheap chamber juicer I had, ordered this new one instantly!
After watching this I purchased the Bartenders Manifesto book which he mentions here. I can't put it down, excellent book!
Please make more videos like this from different famous bars, I haven’t been this excited about one of your videos in a while..
"It's just not something that I would sip."
Oh, so it's a chugging rum. Works for me.
Try their 1888 rum if you want something from Brugal for sipping
Tiger Balm….WOW! I liked it better than the Juliet and Romeo. I find branca menta hard to use but this is perfect. Thanks!
LOL that ending
The stone cold fox sounds absolutely delicious.
love from chicago!
That end 😶
I went to the Violet Hour earlier this year the the service was incredibly slow. It took them 30 minutes after we sat down to take our orders and then another 30 minutes for them to make two drinks.
I've been to the Violet Hour 3 times and have enjoyed every cocktail I've tried there but the service was laughably slow. On 2 occasions we were seated for at least 30 minutes before our first drink.
It's as if you knew I just finished bartenders manifesto and am moving on to cocktail codex
I can't believe I lived in IL so long and never got to this bar.....😥
Gonna be honest, I’m going to miss that pig juicer.
I'm getting that book, but looks like the juicer is crappy aluminum that goes black (looking at the reviews).
When make cocktails I like to try a cocktail once and then try riffs on the cocktail
What’s the orgeat brand you used?
Can you make a video of different Coktail using Beirao Liquors
What happened in the end?
shoulda called it the Amari and Sorry :P
did the end of the video cut off wrong? I don't know if you guys ha...
Yes! First!
I’d love to see a photo of the rules
The Stone Cold Fox and Tiger Balm recipes are the same in the video description
Not sure what happened there but fixed it :)
I’m not familiar with rose water too much and it’s uses in mixology. What does it provide in a cocktail?
Most of the time it's used for the fragrance it adds to the drink like in this recipe but it can be used to add a floral flavor. I've used it in some middle eastern dishes before as well. Can easily overpower so I'd suggest using it sparingly.
@@Runge_was_here is this something one can buy or how do you make it? Thanks for your input.
@@Exposetheluciferianagenda you can buy it at any middle eastern market. Or Greek market probably. It's sold in bottles near the pomegranate molasses and orange blossom water
@@GPSjammer much obliged friend
I keep my bottle wrapped in cling film-otherwise the cupboard smells like granny's underwear drawer...
Soo.. to make a fancy cocktail just put a mint leaf on a drink and put some drops of a mysterious sounding liquid on it?
maybe they wanted to put it on ice to temper the bitterness a little? i think youre right though, it seems a bit weird
For the Juliet & Romeo, I’d just salt half the rim in lieu of saline solution and leave out the cucumber or swap it for something less bland
I'm sure you know better than someone of Milk & Honey fame. Cucumber and gin is a very classic combination.
Just wondering if the Violet Hour has food options. The drinks look incredible. Can’t wait to try them
They do not. But in the immediate area are absolutely amazing food options. Big star and dove's are right across the street. And there's far more amazing food than you could possibly ever try within a 5 minute radius walk.
@@melissastellwagen8658 the Violet hour has food! It’s small plates and on pare with all the other One Off restaurants
@@melissastellwagen8658 Interesting. The next time I'm in the Windy City I know one the spots I'm aiming for a drink and a bite to eat.
"I don't really know if you guys have......"
Am I the only one this cut off for at the end?!
No we’re aware of it tried to fix it in the edit then somehow it got cut off on export.
Not sure why
@@TheEducatedBarfly Leave them wanting more! Lol. Gotta love Technology.
Where is milk and honey? NYC?
Yessir. We have a video on that bar too :)
TVH is the GOAT. No Art of Choke though?
There is a typo in the title, not trying to be annoying just trying to help out
I wasn't much impressed with the violet hour. My favorite Chicagoland cocktail house is Common Good in Glen Ellyn hands down.
Ppl still doing masks huh?
some places, but the footage from voilet hour was from last october
It doesn't hurt, they're not only for covid.
