    It's so nice to see somebody trying 5.56 on armor at conversational distances with a 20" barrel, instead of half a football field with a 14.5 (or shorter!). Yeah, yeah, I know your SBR is real cool, but I'm here to learn the limits of the ARMOR.

      @rachdarastrix5251 4 роки тому +4

      Now i know how well I could rely on it if I ran out of ammo and failed to close the distance with a bayonet. I would be bruised from the blunt force trauma but that wouldn't be enough to stop me from closing the last 11 feet.

      @@rachdarastrix5251 No if you are able to take multiple rifle rounds to the chest with steel armor on and still make it to the target to be able to bayonet then you are beyond human. Watch videos of police officers taking PISTOL rounds to the vest, it sends them on their ass, and that's likely with them wearing soft armor which won't transfer energy as well as steel.

    • @rachdarastrix5251

      @@StockedShelves There are people who are beyond human. There are records of people who have taken a full blast with a shotgun without armor and it did not slow them down. As well as people who were taking rounds from pistols and rifles without armor and have still managed to stab several people before bleeding out, the latter of which were actually trying to die.

    I have two of Spartan AR550 11"x14" plates, and I can surely tell you that they are beasts!
    I keep the plate carrier in the trunk of my Lincoln Continental along with my Sig Sauer MPX 2nd gen. Also with the plate carrier are six (6) 30-round mags with handloaded 147gr. JHP ammo that are about 95% max loads.

    Out of curiosity, are Spartans' Level III+ plates rated to resist 7.62x51mm M61 steel core/black tip? I assumed so, since Level III+/special threat plates from other manufacturers are rated for it. Spartan Armor notes that they resist loads up to 3,100 feet per second, which is well above the velocity of the M61 AP round.

    Shot a AR 500 steel plate with 60 rounds of 7,62 ×51 NATO standard ammunition in green tip steel core amor piercing and you got a few pass through, take any bigger ammo in green black or silver tip amor piercing and it will penetrate at every shot the amor, especially black and silver tip, i imagine you get no depleted uranium ammo, also that will be the best case to blow a away such an amor. With a 50 Bmg with depleted uranium ammo, shot in the right spot, you stop a tank.

    That 30-06 is not to be fucked with. Any bullet for that matter, goddamn they knew how to load some 30-06 in ww2.

      sadf fdsa Probably similar, but 30-06 does have more punch.

    • @googIesux
      @googIesux 9 років тому

      sadf fdsa look up the specs, the bullets are the same, but a lot of .308/7.62x51 is loaded hotter than the old military .30-06. of course with modern powders and a strong gun, the greater capacity of the .30-06 case allows for much higher velocity loads when fired from a longer barrel. I'm not sure what the military standard loads are for .308, but if i have to guess, the AP 7.62mm NATO will be the same or slightly higher velocity., and i'd expect it's the same bullet put in a .308 case and with a newer powder. why change what ain't broke?

    • @StPaul76
      @StPaul76 9 років тому

      sadf fdsa
      At least I'd say. For an example Lapua 7,62x51 Nato AP round is 162gr and 2852fps at the muzzle and giving 4163 Joules of energy. My guess is that's pretty standard since Lapua makes rounds for Nato and the FDF at least for sniping purposes. So basically the same but with 100fps or so more velocity.

    • @Gunners_Mate_Guns
      @Gunners_Mate_Guns 9 років тому

      googIesux FWIW, the standard military .30-06 and .308 loads chart identical velocities with the same bullets.
      Factory ammo and variations on the standard military stuff is where the larger case capacity of the '06 comes into its own.

    Seeing that this video is several years old. What armor plates are you recommending these days?

    You should use the same set up and test with a ballistic jell torso that has a skeleton in it to see,Tsince the plate did not deform ! then we can see if any ribs were brokenor the jell skin rips even the slightest ! Thank you !

    Don't laugh I'm New two body armor, is 3+ body armor the same as a 4 rating?

    • @gwydionrusso3206

      Not quite the way that hard plates work is level 3 is for non armor-piercing of 5.56 7.62x39 and 308
      Level 3+ is for armor-piercing 5.56 in addition to stated above
      And level 4 is designed to stop threats mentioned above in addition to armor-piercing 30-06

    Great video,especially since I just order this exact set of plates with buildup coat, side plates with buildup coat & trauma pads for all. Cant wait to get it just the lead time is going to suck.

    i know you guys probably have a good partnership with spartan armor, but i was wondering if you could do a comparison with some soft body armors. i currently carry level IIIA for work and i want to see how it reacts against various calibers. no one has anything worth while on that type and i figure you guys would do it right

    That 30.06 round would probably stop your heart, but I imagine it could be survivable if you had a teammate to drag your ass out and start CPR. What do you guys think?

    Hey Eric, you guys should try getting a hold of Dragon Skin body armor they were working on a few years ago. Not sure if its still around or not but would be interesting to see your results.

    1st off, great video! However, quick question. In one of the other videos you did testing the AR500 plate, that plate stopped 8 M2AP rounds, and the only way that armor was defeated was when 2 of those rounds hit in nearly the same spot. So is this AR550 plate actually weaker hence it only took one round straight to the chest to penetrate?

    • @jethro_bardot
      @jethro_bardot 8 років тому +1

      Pretty sure he wasn't actually using black tip AP rounds in that video. The ceramic plate stopped 4 of them, but it's only rated to stop 1 .30-06 AP round. Someone else pointed this out in the comments section of the previous video.

    I noticed that you said XM196 but the popup info box thing said XM193.... which one is wrong? Oh and I've noticed this in a few other videos as well.
