Really? What I heard was that it was always intended for the Wii as a release game and Nintendo were the ones who told them to maybe scrap the ambitious game and instead make an easier to program game, which could be out by the release of the Wii
for those wondering, alongside the prototype for rayman 4, a version of the jade engine leaked, which means you can use basically the same tools as ubisoft did to mod the game

It genuinely amazes me the dedication of Rayman fans on reworking and updating Reburrowed that it’s a dream come true. I’m really looking forward playing this since I saw the original prototype trailer back in 2009z
When I first saw this prototype in action, I legit thought it was insane, now here's Ubisoft still not giving a shit about Rayman, but the modding community coming in to pretty much do a "hold my beer and let me cook" thing. Honestly, that's fucking dope, and I can't wait to see what becomes of Raving Rabbids Reburrowed, another mint video dude.
I still think a Rayman 4: Rabbits Invasion game would be so hype especially if it was artistically inspired by Rayman 3 but with better animations of course. Just take Box Art Rayman 3 and make him playable in colorful worlds and bam, 1/3rd of the game is conceptually finished. I just really want that game so bad cause the Rabbids beta looked so interesting...
They could even get Nintendo to fund it if they make a demo that's partially as beautiful as Rayman 3's first stage... We got Bayonetta 2 so Rayman being funded by Nintendo would be brilliant... I just really want Rayman 4, 3 was such a enchanting game ;_;

Honestly incredibly fascinating how much of the game was kept in raving rabbids but obviously used completely differently. All the power up costumes just random customization, the levels used for minigame locations

This is going to be so awesome. I also hope there is a part in the game where you get to fight that huge horde of Rabbits in that apocalyptic setting as seen in the teaser. Maybe that can repurpose that as a horde mode as a challenge for the player.
The thing is, ubisoft doesn't care about the rayman franchise, so I don't see the issue of rereleasing the original idea for raving rabbids before they turned it into a mini game collection due to the WII controls. Yet both illuminations and ubisoft are French companies where annoying little creatures became the mascots of the company because they became more popular then the franchises they came from
You know what this reminds me of? Kao the kangaroo mystery of vulcano expanded edition (kangurek kao tajemnica wulkanu edycja roserzona) a mod for Kao 3 wich was a sequel that sadly couldn't reach it's full potential due to decline of platformers at the time wich led to budget cuts, the mod is dding stuff like a new level (there were suppose to be more new level but they didn't know how to fill those levels), upgrades are also being added and plenty of other things are changed (the creators of the mod have a youtube channel too "Kao modding")
Like said in the live chat, If Ubisoft won't do anything, The fans will (And such, I'm glad unlike Nintendo and from what I've seen on the internet: Ubisoft has been pretty much chill with their IPs being used in fan projects as of recent)

My personal grievances aside, though, this looks like an incredible fan project. It's really amazing what some passionate people can do, and I'll definitely give the Rabbids another chance if it really does get finished.

8:34 there are actually 3 professors. The one with the bandages is considered to be Barranco 1, while Barranco 2 appeared in the “making of” videos for Raving Rabbids. The one with the two colored eyes is Barranco 3, and appears in Raving Rabbids 2, Alive and Kicking, and Invasion.

It's one of those older versions of a game I've always lamented we never got, much like the Saturn version of Sonic Adventure. btw, I'm sure you're aware of Connie and the Essence of Chaos. It's funny how things turn out in a totally different way. When Michel Ancel drew that Rabbid, he probably just thought that it would be another type of villain that Rayman would face like the Robot Pirates or the Hoodlums before them. Reburrowed will be the closest thing to the game we should have had in 2006, or 2007, if Ubisoft weren't so greedy.
I was a bit worried that this project would suffer from scope creep and eventually be canned because of it but seeing how well organized the project is a great sign.
For the record Serguei is pronounced ‘Ser-Gay’ ;) This is INCREDIBLE. The team behind this deserves all the credit and love for bringing this prototype back from the brink.
I hope the guys working on the soundtrack try to come up with something more unique. What's there right now does sound fitting for the scenario sure, but mainline Rayman music is a lot more unique and experimental. The music in these games has a pretty prominent role, standing out on its own and creating a strong sense of identity for the whole game. The music in these games makes them come across as sort of interactive music albums one experiences by playing the game.
The music for Reburrowed is trying to be authentic to the final game but also taking inspiration from Rayman 2, there will be plenty memorable music tracks, i assure you!

I think my biggest issue with this project so far is that the areas feel very empty with no real major landmarks even with the dash and the animals it feels like a whole lot of nothing. That being said I really hope the best for the team since this will probably be the best Rayman fangame since redemption

I'm not sure if this is the main source of this but the earliest time I know of him being called Barranco 3 by the fandom was with this one guy who shipped him with Raymesis & Dark Rayman. Edit: The source might be from a Rayman fanfic on fanfiction net
Even if this isn't official and is fanmade I actually like this fanmade interpretation of Raving Rabbids then what we got. It really should have been a 3-D platformer.
Even if the prototype was going to have voice acting, it would make more sense for Reburrowed to have Rayman 2/Banjo-Kazooie gibberish since it would be too time consuming and expensive to have full voice acting for every single character on a project that isn't being developed by a AAA company like the prototype was.
I was so disappointed as a kid to play my brand new Rayman game and have it be Raving Rabbids.. I am so happy this is a thing and hope to all the gods that Ubisoft doesnt shut it down and that the team doesnt get burnt out

Don't get me wrong, as much as I love the Mario + Rabbids series where the Rabbids are a lot more tolerable through character development and Rayman making an appearance in the DLC, I think there should have a more edgier game where it would flesh out the Rabbids even more where some of their brethren somehow stayed on the Glade of Dreams and evolved into the montrous versions of themselves, like the ones from Rayman 4, and so Rayman has to team up with Mario, Beep-0 and the friendly Rabbids to defeat the monstrous Rabbids, learn secrets about their origins and encounter Jabbit who is the true leader of the Rabbids with support of an old enemy of Rayman, Mr. Dark.
Shame they aren't looking for voice actors and are only sticking with jibberish. I can imitate both Rayman 3 Rayman and even Billy west Rayman from the canceled TV show. I also know how to speak pig latin on the fly so I could can do something similar to Rayman origins as well!
We ARE looking for voice actors, but only for voicing characters in gibberish speech, rayman might not be needed, but for characters like monique and others, we will need voice actors to make gibberish noises and speech.

My only hope is for the worlds to not be enormous empty spaces. I'd rather the team cut 30-40% of the geometry of each world, if it means the more compact sizes will have plenty of content to keep the player busy As for suggestions, I offer 1. Lock-on option during combat 2. Lums have proper models instead of 2D textures 3. Giving Rayman a Origins/Legends sprint animation when he uses boost, as just speeding up his run animation looks super jank 4. Unique battle theme against rabbids, based on the world
I believe there's a sort of lock-on system in place already. Monik the fairy (the purple glowing orb around you) turns orange and highlights certain things, like enemies!
Co-Director here, we will be adding lots of stuff in the worlds, they will be filled with platforming challenges, combat areas, and unique setpieces, the spiral tree you saw in this video was one of them, we are currently focusing a lot on getting the general gameplay features and functionality done.

The reburrowed team are doing great job on resurrecting lots of old and scrapped designs of the rabbid enemies like the security officer rabbids

I'm not sure if this is the main source of this but the earliest time I know of him being called Barranco 3 by the fandom was with this one guy who shipped him with Raymesis & Dark Rayman.

Even if this isn't official and is fanmade I actually like this fanmade interpretation of Raving Rabbids then what we got. It really should have been a 3-D platformer.
Even if the prototype was going to have voice acting, it would make more sense for Reburrowed to have Rayman 2/Banjo-Kazooie gibberish since it would be too time consuming and expensive to have full voice acting for every single character on a project that isn't being developed by a AAA company like the prototype was.

I was so disappointed as a kid to play my brand new Rayman game and have it be Raving Rabbids.. I am so happy this is a thing and hope to all the gods that Ubisoft doesnt shut it down and that the team doesnt get burnt out

They didn’t care when the actual code leaked so I suspect this will be no different, but who knows Ubisoft’s great at making people hate them.

Don't get me wrong, as much as I love the Mario + Rabbids series where the Rabbids are a lot more tolerable through character development and Rayman making an appearance in the DLC, I think there should have a more edgier game where it would flesh out the Rabbids even more where some of their brethren somehow stayed on the Glade of Dreams and evolved into the montrous versions of themselves, like the ones from Rayman 4, and so Rayman has to team up with Mario, Beep-0 and the friendly Rabbids to defeat the monstrous Rabbids, learn secrets about their origins and encounter Jabbit who is the true leader of the Rabbids with support of an old enemy of Rayman, Mr. Dark.

Shame they aren't looking for voice actors and are only sticking with jibberish. I can imitate both Rayman 3 Rayman and even Billy west Rayman from the canceled TV show. I also know how to speak pig latin on the fly so I could can do something similar to Rayman origins as well!
We ARE looking for voice actors, but only for voicing characters in gibberish speech, rayman might not be needed, but for characters like monique and others, we will need voice actors to make gibberish noises and speech.

I bet they'll do a fantastic job that puts Ubisoft to shame.
My only hope is for the worlds to not be enormous empty spaces. I'd rather the team cut 30-40% of the geometry of each world, if it means the more compact sizes will have plenty of content to keep the player busy
As for suggestions, I offer
1. Lock-on option during combat
2. Lums have proper models instead of 2D textures
3. Giving Rayman a Origins/Legends sprint animation when he uses boost, as just speeding up his run animation looks super jank
4. Unique battle theme against rabbids, based on the world
I believe there's a sort of lock-on system in place already. Monik the fairy (the purple glowing orb around you) turns orange and highlights certain things, like enemies!
Co-Director here, we will be adding lots of stuff in the worlds, they will be filled with platforming challenges, combat areas, and unique setpieces, the spiral tree you saw in this video was one of them, we are currently focusing a lot on getting the general gameplay features and functionality done.
I think the lums are 2D for optimisation reasons.
